I love how convenient the kindle is, but god damn does it suck compared to a real book.

I can't wait until your kindle turns into the real book when you wanna read it. the future man.

aaaaand looks like a storm is brewing. gonna lose service in about 10 minutes haha

I read Don Quixote in high school. Liked the story well enough. But I can no longer take it seriously after renaming my smurf.

If you want to read an oldish book, just read Sherlock Holmes. It's hilarious, people ejaculate out of the windows all the time there n stuff

Books from around The Count of Monte-Cristo's period would be, uh... I guess you could qualify it as formal languge, while a bunch of books now are written in a more informal manner (French has a different word for each language level, formal/informal sounds awkward when opposed like this D:), or even colloquial.
Add to this that a lot of "classics" were actually serials published weekly or monthly, and that their authors were paid on word count, and it explains why some of these stories have episodes sometimes totally unrelated to the plot line, and absurdly convoluted and pompous wording (like when I use 10 lines to say something that'd take 3, except they did it on purpose). Some people find it tedious to read because of that.

As for the parody, you don't really have to worry, in the end romance novels and such old stuff use devices that's still found in current candy eye books, TV series, etc. Tropes and cliche abound, and if they're cliche, that's because at some point they started being spammed in works.

I should read Agatha Christie. But if I wanna read mystery stuff, I should finish Umineko first.
Cant take LMS hipsters serious.

So I applied the base coats to my first Destroyer last night. I don't know how I like it... the Bronze is almost Gold, not precisely what I wanted. Once I put on the Oil wash it might look a bit grimier.

My main issue with it is that the base part feels too big of a flat surface to have that shiny of a color on. Maybe I need to put a design on there or use a decal or something, or do you think it looks fine?

I still have a lot of painting to do on it, obviously. The "mask" part on the left of his face is going to be a white, the shoulder pads blue, details in teal and green. I might go over parts of the gun arm in a gunmetal, but I wanted to see what it would look like with a bronze weapon. The 6 side "engine" parts might be painted a different color as well, unsure yet.

@Req - the back/base might look good with a little design, but I wouldn't overdo it. I would also wait until you paint the rest of it before deciding if you really want to put any extra stuff on it.

The reason for the super heros being strong men and sexy women is obviously because they were designed by men for men.

Not that this isn't true, but women tend to draw sexy women as well. Maybe it's conditioning of the last few hundred years, but here have been studies done about how both sexes find the 'ideal female form' to be aesthetically(and sexually) pleasing, regardless of sexuality.

Now if you want to talk about the personalities and the attire worn by most 'super women,' that is definitely a male construct, and something that's been talked about a ton in gaming.

Wouldn't you describe the 'ideal male form' to be aesthetically (and sexually) pleasing as well? big bad muscle man with flowing golden locks style?

I mean, there's certainly an aesthetic, but like I said, studies have actually shown that straight women are aroused by the visual of other attractive women, which is just not true for men.

Thinking of it slightly abstractly, male peacocks are extremely colorful and 'beautiful' while female peacocks never had to evolve as such because they do the mate selection. Female humans for the vast majority of human evolution were the ones that had to do the peacocking, even if that has changed in modern times(although it really hasn't, the illusion that it has is why so many men fail to get the women they want).
How did the experience of working at Mr Burns' Nuclear Plant influence Homer's composition of the Iliad and Odyssey?

For the entirety of human history both men and women had to do a lot of peacocking. As any other animal whose social structure is more sophisticated than just "get laid or don't get laid"

maybe for your sex life. pretty much spot on for me. except my dick is usually bigger.

storm went away so I can use internet weeee

@cheep the kindle is really handy if you travel a lot or don't have room for all your books. it also is nice for when I'm cooking or bathing and can use the text to speech function. oh and the dictionary function is super noice. who knew hack also meant a small horse! but my mom has a kindle and we still go to bookstores because it's our preferred method of reading. but with so many free books and the convenience of a kindle, I really see no reason not to buy one - unless you really never travel and have a lot of shelf space.

and I've already laughed out loud twice in the first chapter, definitely gonna be a good book.

@scip definitely adding Sherlock Holmes to my list. especially after watching the first two seasons of the BBC modernization haha

But male peacocking is less about physical appearance, and more about other things(social power being the most prevalent throughout history), which is why it's harder to pin down 'the male ideal.'

Also, societal structure being more sophisticated in humans than other animals(although it most likely wasn't in early human times, even if we were more intelligent we still had simple 'simian' societies as far as we know) doesn't stop Darwinian trait selection from happening, it simply alters the meaning of 'fittest.'
