I don't ever play Blue, except for Gifts Ungiven. My all time favorite MtG card ever next to Lightning Angel.

On March 23 2015 13:49 WaveofShadow wrote: Thought about doing a full write-up, but now I'm tired so I'll do a bigger one with card links and shit anyone has any real interest in it. Short version: Did better than expected with the mediocre pool I got. Only dragon I got was the U/B uncommon, and my rares were absolutely godawful. Ended up with 2x Silumgar Assassin which worked really well in my deck but nothing particularly bomby or valuable overall. Medium version:+ Show Spoiler + Match 1 - Went up against a guy who claimed he had a shit pool, and played W/B/G for some reason. Very clearly worse than me at the game---even I was able to help him out with some rules and stuff during the game. Felt real bad for him when he had to mull to 5 game 1 and 4 game 2, but then we played for fun after and I still trashed him. Also turns out his 'shit pool' contained a fucking Ojutai's Command and Narset Transcendant. Match 2 - Level 1 judge. He told me that and I assumed it was gg already. Actually ended up dispatching him with relative ease surprisingly. He played Kolaghan (B/R) aggro but my removal was no match for his dash. (bwahaha) Something interesting during the match though: at one point he attacked me with a 2/5 deathtouch, I blocked with a 2/2 and gave it +3/0 and regenerate. He told me my guy dies anyway, so I was like wtf, and we called over the level 2 judge. Turns out I was right and my guy doesn't die, but my opponent said that apparently it used to be a thing that deathtouch and damage could kill my guy twice thereby negating the regenerate? Was that ever really a thing? Match 3 - Epic fucking games. A ridiculous bolster deck was what I was up against this time. I took game one, and he took game 2. Game 3 took like 30 min with 80 bolster guys and +1/+1 counters flying all over the place. He had two of the rare Dromoka dragons (W/G and W) AND Daghatar, so ultimately when I lost I wasn't surprised that he ended up 4-0. Match 4 - The only real blowout. Played against a better Silumgar deck than mine. He actually splashed red just for Bathe in Dragonfire and was able to bring it back multiple times with a 3/2 Megamorph card that lets him return noncreature spells to his hand. I also got greedy game 2 with a 2-land hand and suffered a little for it by missing a couple drops. Was only supposed to win 2 packs for a 2-2 but the guy giving them out when I was leaving gave a few people ahead of me with the same record 4 by accident, realized it, and the guy I had just played against told the guy behind the counter he had to do the same for me. So a bunch of free packs when I was expecting nothing! Managed to get slightly better value from the bonus packs---a Zurgo Bellstriker and Dromoka's Command were probably the best. Overall impressions: Yeah, I impressed myself. (Either that or maybe the competition wasn't as ridiculous as I expected.) Very few misplays and when I did it was already pretty much beyond the point of comeback. Stuff I learned: I like U/B control . Exploit is a very solid mechanic, and the synergy built in with the various sacrifices is awesome. Ukud Cobra is batshit crazy.Decklist: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/silumgaaaarrrr/ Regarding combat damage and regeneration - Under current rules combat damage happens simultaneously as part of the combat damage phase. This is a turn-based action. Once damage has been marked on all creatures as part of combat, you then destroy all creatures as appropriate as a state-based action. Creatures with regeneration get a replacement effect which means the next time the creature would be destroyed, you replace that action and instead tap it (if untapped), remove all damage assigned to the creature, and then remove it from combat. Deathtouch means that all non-zero combat damage is considered lethal damage. Therefore when you perform your state-based action to destroy the creature, the Regeneration replacement effect kicks in and the creature is saved since it no longer has any damage marked on it. Your opponent was either lying about being a judge to intimate you into believing their version of the rules, abusing their authority as a judge to get an advantage, or didn't actually know how this works. I can somewhat believe the third option because Regeneration, Combat Damage and stuff all used to work very differently. Still, it's negligent for a L1 Judge not to understand basic combat damage - it's not like they're trying to do layers or something. Good on you for calling the L2 Judge to resolve the issue. If ever in doubt, call the actual judge whatever the situation. Also in Limited, Bombs matter but having a solid deck that just does stuff is also very important for most formats. For example, at the RTR Pre-release I played this nonsense WURG deck because I chose Selesnya but my seeded pack as awful and my boosters had decent Izzet so my only way to have a deck of playable cards was going 4 colours with no real bombs. But my playables were still solid and I luckily had great mana so I just curved out every game and won that way. A lot of players underestimate how painful playing against T1 1-drop, T2 2-drop, T3 3-drop, T4 4-drop actually is in Limited. White gives you access to value creatures that end games early, or mostly efficient creatures that double as removal or have other valuable reuse effects. If I know what you're able to do and how long it will take you to get there I can push my clock or hold cards for your removal. More importantly, while Thoughtseize is one-for-one purely in card terms it's much more asymetrical when you look at the card quality differential it creates. It makes so so sad to have someone play that card when you don't have any good card filtering or really high consistency in your deck to deal with it. Also, as Kibler so wonderfully put it: "Do you ever feel clever for choosing to play Thoughtseize? Congrats, you figured out your opponent’s deck was going to contain non-land cards they might want to cast at some point. You’re like some kind of prophet!" Music doesn't heal all but it's a nice little distraction. Hoy MoonBear, wth is that Tron deck? @_@ Also Karn's big ability. I imagine people aren't happy to play against that. Edit: oh yeah, talk about lively. And for people recognising U.N. Owen was Her?, this kind of stuff is why the sheer variety amongst the Touhou arranges community is awesome.

Very rarely are you using his ultimate. Its usually just used as a swiss army knife (more of a scalpel for their hand) that just brick walls your opp once they have little to no cards left in hand. I've ended games with 22 counters on karn and a snapcaster getting in there for 20.

Maybe it had been a while since he judged an event or something? Ah my bad then. In which case yeah 3rd option and maybe s/he was a not very active judge. The changes in the rules for combat damage and the like were pretty significant at the time and I still have difficultly remembering exactly what's supposed to happen sometimes. Perhaps the way I worded my post there was a little too harsh. ^^;; On March 24 2015 06:13 Alaric wrote: Hoy MoonBear, wth is that Tron deck? @_@ The idea is you get the Urza Lands into play. (This is also where the name Urza-Tron comes from since it's like assembling Voltron lol) These lands let you generate a LOT of colourless mana. You use this big mana to play big spells with big effects and win by doing big things to people. Karn, Liberated is pretty powerful. His +4 lets you strip someone's hand apart. Since the card is exiled instead of being discarded you don't even have to worry about effects that care about discard like Obstinate Baloth or cards where your opponent wants them in their graveyard anyway like Past in Flames. Wurmcoil Engine looks really cool and is a big fat creature against aggressive decks thanks to having both Lifelink and Deathtouch. Also, even if you kill it, it's still a giant pain for your opponent to beat. Platinum Angel is a giant middle finger at your opponent although you still need to actually win the game. Mindslaver combos with Academy Ruins. You can play Mindslaver to control your opponent's next turn and then put Mindslaver back on top of your deck to do it all over again. And you basically keep doing this until your opponent decks themselves out and since you control all their turns there's nothing they can do about it so its an instant win unless they have an immediate answer. This takes a lot of mana to do but hey you're playing UrzaTron why are you concerned about mana lol. Special mention to Sundering Titan. It punishes greedy mana bases so hard. Note that you get to choose one land of each type and these choices are made independently. So, for example, you could choose Overgrown Tomb as a Forest and then Temple Garden as a Plains and then Godless Shrine as the Swamp and that's totally ok even though all their land types overlap with each other. Since you're a mono colour deck at worst you lose an Island, or if your opponent is playing Islands then it's a one-sided spell to kill your opponent's lands with a giant 7/10 body as well. Plus, if your opponent manages to get rid of it you get to do it all over again! I mean yeah but replaying a game takes way too long. If you've had a Karn on the board unopposed for ages you're probably winning the game anyway so it's faster just to kill them normally. And I mean you have so much mana you can just do whatever at this point lol On March 24 2015 06:26 Cixah wrote: Either that or vendillion clique because it hoses stoneforge mystic.
