RHCP doesn't have the best lyrics, but they have a lot of really good sounds if that makes sense.

Yeah, I tend to enjoy Christian Rock a lot more when it's less praise and more just rock with faith undertones. Project 86 is sick good for this imo, or Demon Hunter.

Kinda ironic considering how much I like The Police in general. In my defence they've also got stuff like Invisible Sun. I don't want to spend the rest of my life Looking at the barrel of an armalite I don't wanna spend the rest of my days Keeping out of trouble like the soldiers say I don't want to spend my time in hell Looking at the walls of a prison cell I don't ever wanna play the part Of a statistic on a government's chart Songs like Sometimes you can't make it on your own, or Stuck in a moment you can't get out of, by U2, too (apart from the obvious one). Iron Maiden's style is pretty straight-to-the-facts but that's part of what I like in them. Renaud has very good lyrics at the start of his career but cba translating it (also he uses too much slang for me to be able to do it faithfully and you'd lose rythm and rhyme), same with Pigalles. Say it ain't so, Joe from Murray Heads. Hm. And then you throw in stuff like the Safedy Dance or Why can't we be friends?, just because. Can't always ask about the bird.

I think led zeppelin just wanted to write music and not give people life advice via lyrics I dunno. don't know what's so good about babe im going to leave you it's just another basically love song and they didn't even write it. I just think of the singing there as a 4th instrument as opposed to every pop song being about like life is hard but keep on trucking lolol (dave grohl how to write a pop song)

If a post hating on The Killers is the most hipster thing you've ever read, then you've lived a good life.

The exception is choral music, four part harmony and above is just super awesome in general.

I actually tend to stay away from musical discussions given my odd inclinations and the fact that I don't get elitist at all about music. I tried to read /mu/ for a while, but most of the shittalking went over my head. I just kind of enjoy what I enjoy.

Hm. Blue Oyster Cult. Astronomy and Veteran of the Psychic Wars. The live version of the latter is so good, dat solo dayum. It's quite different from the studio version, both the voice and some instruments' sounds, so it's double the pleasure. If it's about lame love song which lyrics I still like, then The Police's Every Little Thing She Does. You can pretty much discard the lyrics and just ride the tempo of the song though. Bonus point because the lyrics are depressed but the instrumental is so full of energy and momentum instead of some sad piano or what have you. ZUN makes me sad though, his melodies are almost always super good, but he's working with MIDI (or at best wave) sound so the quality isn't high, and when people do covers they often opt for electro/metal/techno/generally noisy stuff and/or add their own little tweaks so it isn't the melody anyway. I mean, some are very good at it and I enjoy it (and you're lucky I'm at work because I'd go listen to some and drown you in links) but when you'd want the exact same melodies but with real instruments you're in for a tough ride. Still looking for an U.N. cover that manages to be creepy/eerie without relying on added SFX, despite the base melody lending itself really well to that. >_>
