People are still afraid of flying even though it's the safest mass transportation system. Fears aren't logical.

I was just going to write out "hahahah" repeatedly in all caps, but I don't think that'll get the point across. In fact, it isn't funny at all, it's a terrible situation with terrible people running it and I think I'm just going to turn in my key tomorrow to save myself another week of headache. I'm not sure if you are joking here or not. Regardless of how bad the situation is, why burn bridges? Even if you are leaving your company at a time your boss thinks is bad, I don't see how it's a good idea to go out in a way that will get her to feel more animosity towards you. Just forget the job and move on to something better. Ya that's basically why I was asking/what I was leading into saying. I was even going to link to a thread on another forum I visit where some very wealthy and successful men weighed in on the subject because a 20-something specifically asked how he can leave a job on not good terms -basically wanting advice on how to let his bosses know he was pissed. The advice of "don't" was basically unanimous. A lot of businesses are very insular as far as their workforces are concerned, especially if you maintain residence around the same area. You may encounter people again in the future as a colleague, an employer, a client, etc. At worst you should VERY FORMALLY inform them in your exit review of your specific complaints and leave it at that. Even that isn't advisable though because your snark will almost certainly shine through, and there is literally 0 upside to it other than "lol I showed them." I understand where you guys are coming from, and if this was any other company I would agree. But this isn't even a company, this is a startup that's completely run on the whim of the person who made it. I laugh because the idea that she'd sit me down for an exit interview is laughable. Likely what's going to happen is she's just going to ask for my key and say goodbye. Our "HR department" is an outside company that has only ever showed up at the office to change salaries and fire people. I had to leave 3 messages and send 2 emails to get my dental card, which then they had to reprint because they misspelled it.
The owner is the same person who brought me into her office the first week of January and promised me a raise, and then never gave it to me or brought it up ever again. But gave one to her best friend/business partner, who was just a secretary at their old job together but apparently "is smart enough to be a BA". She's not. Every client we have hates her, and have said so on calls. They specifically ask that she stop working on projects because she's horrible.
This is the same owner who cut everyone's pay by 20% because we weren't getting paid by our clients, then "resolved" the situation by firing our developer lead and 2 other people. But then didn't give our normal paychecks back for another month while she hired a new BA who she fired a month later because he was underqualified to fill the role. She knew that going in too.
She's systematically driven away everyone she doesn't like by cutting their pay until they can't afford to work here anymore. Even our COO, who was the only one pulling in business, she decided to cut down to a 10% commission bonus because they got in an argument about the direction of the company or something.
The idea that they would even be organized enough to hold an exit interview is hilarious, as is the thought that she'd listen to anything I have to say. The only thing she knows how to do is make arbitrary promises to clients and then yell at people when they don't deliver them for her. Literally all I got working on this project was about 20 wireframes and the direction to "make it work".
I don't need any professional relationship with her or this company. Everyone I like who works here hates her too and are looking to quit. I have references from every developer who works here or who has in the past. I already have a new job. I live and will work far enough away that I will never encounter them again, and the field this company works in is so niche that I should never encounter it unless I go looking for it. I'm not going to run into her office, call her an asshole and scream at her. I think I'll just quietly walk in, leave my keys, and thank her for her time.
Even if I fixed every problem we had before I left, I wouldn't expect to keep a professional relationship with her. It's just now how she operates. I've watched every single person who has left or been fired blamed for every project that comes up. A site breaks? "Those fucking developers who worked on it. They were shit anyway." A client backs out of a deal? "That guy I fired so mismanaged this project. What an asshole, it's his fault we're here." Someone changes their mind on a design? "The old UX/UI guy was a real chump. He can't do anything right."
Not a single person has left this company with our CEO having good things to say about them. I don't expect to be the first.

Oh, sure, I understand. Not skydiving out of fear is one thing - I get it. I know a lot of people who are terrified of heights and flying (I have a somewhat small fear of heights myself).
But not doing it because of the cost is what I'm arguing. It is expensive, yes, I won't deny that. But it's worth the investment if that's the only thing keeping you from doing it and it's within your means to spend it recreationally.
|
If I did it I would probably do it because it is scary, not the other way around.
I dunno. It is something I want to do, when the circumstances/costs allow. Right now if I want to spend hundreds of dollars on something frivolous I'd probably buy a new camera lens.

Dam working in America sounds pretty crazy. I think here if an small business owner tried to pull that stuff they'd be destroyed in court pretty fast. Well it's also really hard to fire someone here lol

Like I said, this isn't the norm by a long shot.

AH k. My cousin actually went to go work for Tesla there and found the working culture quite different from England/Here. Haven't spoken to him in awhile so not sure how it's going. Always hear horror stories about US employment but don't know if that's just outliers.

Compared to Europe, US employment is in general pretty horrible.

I would buy one if i was rich and had another car for when i wanted to go somewhere far. They are stylish and technologically inovative too! I would love to work there.
sooo much company time going into researching my build. Looking at spending around 2 grand after taxes including two monitors and a new keyboard now that i'm waiting a bit longer. pc itself is ~1400. I decided I didn't much care about IPS monitor I think i'd rather a 1ms TN panel for cheaper.
it looks so sexy to me + Show Spoiler + Still debating between the msi geforce 970 and the msi radeon 290x. I want to explore other makes too. both are a step up from the XFS 290 I was considering before. The 970 is cheaper, faster*, and way less voltage and heat. *but its not as fast as advertised which rubs me the wrong way a lot. I wonder if this is something they might be able to fix with drivers later. If i won the lotto i would totally buy 2 x 980s right away!
Picking the parts was easy compared to finding them and actually buying them. I don't want to order from 5 different companies and have them leaving my stuff outside my country house in the snow. Considering going to a NCIX that is not too far away becuase I heard they were good at price matching and if they can order everything in at once and ill go pick it up I could save on shipping and not have to impatiently wait for parts coming in haha. If anyone from canada who has bought computer parts before and read all that has any recomendations. Or anyone at all with anything to add I'd love to hear it. I have no idea what im doing.

Dangggg that video card is pricey!
Which reminds me, my dad is bringing me a spare monitor and webcam he had lying around (he's notorious for just having computer parts randomly. like why is there a power supply in the basement dad?) So all that to say, I may stream with video... or at least I can watch wave when I have gaming time and actually be able to do both!

Nvidia has some ins with game devs, making their games look slightly better on their cards. Also, your top end stock power consumption is 300W under your PSU max, so you might be able to save some cash by going got a 550W. If that isn't an issue, go ahead. $400+ is pretty expensive for a 970.
|
Overpaying for RAM there. Pretty sure you can get 8gb for around 60$.

I should look at more 970s, hopefully cheaper, becuase I am leaning that way now.
