Here's a comparison.
iPhone 5 vs. the LG G2
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Apple-iPhone-5,LG-G2/phones/7378,7969
The LG G2 has a 30% increase in pixel density while also pulling off a 25% larger screen. Almost double the clock speed, double the cores, double the RAM, double the built in standard storage, Micro SD card as well. Better front facing and back facing cameras. Better video camera. Better wireless antenna. Built in FM radio.
You can get it with a Verizon contract for 100$.

Wut. You haul around your cable and charger? I even have an old charger from my previous phone that works with my new phone lying around in the living room. I probably wouldn't of gone out and bought more cables or charger. But that's cuz I didn't need to. The problem with new iphone is it requires you to buy new cablea cuz now all their old cables are legacy.

I even said I have no problem with anyone disliking the product. My beef is with the argument that the price point of the iPhone is too high.

No, I don't need to "haul" around my cable and adapter because I plug it in when I get home/go to sleep and I never need to charge it on the go.

The thing that sells iPhones over Android phones for me is that the Apple Apps Store is far more robust and contains a lot more quality stuff (and earlier). It's like, in the phone markets, Apples are the PCs and Androids are the Apples.

It IS too high if it costs twice as much for half as much hardware.
That's consistent for all apple products. It's consistent for the iphone, the ipad, and their computers. It is their business model.

If itvs an inferior product to a phone that costs 100 bucks. But costs 200. I'm pretty sure that means price point is too high.

its like they are all selling piles of shit and people buy the shit because "it's from X brand" or "it's better/cheaper shit than the shit X brand sells" or "it has a lot of RAM and cores and Micro cards because that's just what I look for in my pile of shit"
but it's still a pile of poo

Their are quite a few more non app things you can do to your phone with android.
With that all being said, I would love to have macbook retina pro 13". Too poor though. So pwetty

Apple also blacklists a lot of apps that don't meet their ridiculously strict ToS, which other phone companies typically don't do.

When I say "too high" or too expensive, I don't mean the phone's value cost (which is a whole new argument and I'm not going to join it). I meant it in the context of affordability and comparison with similarly marketed high end smartphones. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding in semantics.

I can't tell you the number of times I've walked into a hostel in Europe or Asia and seen some eastern European looking guy watching porn on his phone right in the lobby in the middle of tons of people.
That shit is so strange.

Yeah that's kind of what Apple does.
They get you to upgrade to an iphone, then make it so you don't want to switch to other phones because they've intentionally made all your peripherals incompatible, designed their OS to be too different from other OS's for people who aren't tech savvy to change, made your music and apps or whatever hard/impossible to transfer to a different brand, and then they release a new model every year and peer pressure you into upgrading.
And it works and they make a ton of money every year, even though their number of users is actually decreasing.
That's not what keeps me away from apple products though, because other companies do that sort of shit too. It's how they go above and beyond on the douchescale with their lawsuits and copyright shit etc etc etc.

I'm a little confused. iPhone already had retina display beginning with the 4, so I don't see why additional pixel desnity or whatever really matters. You get slightly more vibrant or accurate colors but don't tell me when you were buying your phone that was why you chose one over the other.
I got my iPhone for college, and I really like it. I will always stick with a regular Windows laptop (Asus is da best) and agree Apple stuff is overpriced, but its hard to go back afterwards. Having iMessage and stuff is preeeetty convenient when like 80%+ of your friends have iPhones.
I've waited 3 years to upgrade, got a 4 at the beginning of college and getting a 5S when I go home for Thanksgiving. Seems like an OK time to get a new phone, would be about the same with any other phone. Also, I had some problems with it, went to the Apple store and they gave me a new one.

Retina display is a buzzword Apple used to describe how their resolution was as high as the eye could see. Which is based on the 20/20 eye vision test, but that's not how our eyes work for pixels, and pixel density.

The thing that always gets me with iPhones is battery replacement. Why the bloody hell does a battery replacement "service" cost $80 plus shipping when I can buy a replacement battery for my S3 at Radio Shack for like $5?
Pretty much every smartphone I've ever used has required at least one battery replacement in its lifetime (and it's almost certainly outside the 1 year warranty) before I replace the device entirely, and the cost of replacing the iPhone's battery while the device doesn't have better battery life in the first place seems ridiculous.

Little weird to see people consider the upfront price on contracted phones meaningful. There are frequently carriers literally giving away nice phones if they can lock you into the inflated contract prices, and if you approach signing a contract as a loan for the amount you save up front the interest rates are incredibly bad.
The upshot is that the initial price of the phone basically doesn’t matter. They can and do vary them wildly and seemingly at random just to bring people in.
