5 added the TBS-style liberation missions. Those were really annoying, but ultimately 5 fixed enough of 4's problems for it to be a better game overall. Arguably the fact that 4 was a super-short game that you're basically forced to New Game+ TWICE to get the same amount of content as most of the other games in the series is a bigger strike against it than 5's liberation missions, to say nothing about a lot of the gameplay overhauls from 3->4 that weren't well thought out and didn't get smoothed out till 5/6.
My overall ranking would be 3>2>6>1/5>4, my suggested play order would be 2>3>6>1>5>4 (with anything other than 2, 3, or 6 not really being must-play IMO).
I could see the argument for 1 being necessarily the place to start as a series intro for the story, but the gameplay enhancements in 2 just seem like too big a deal to me. Maybe someone who hasn't played any of them at all and wouldn't get hung up on the poorer UI and laggy controls if they haven't seen better later in the series, but I think those are things that are going to be important for any game.

Emu, you don't play league? You're fairly new to the off topic thread aren't you. (Not saying that's a bad thing, you just recently quit league or do you just love our personalities)

Eh, I'm one of the players who is willing to look past a lot of faults if a story or other parts of a game are good. I don't really tend to necessarily look in depth and analyze each game I play either---I mean I guess it's possible if I played MMBN1 now thinking about what you said I'd enjoy it less, but why is that a good thing?
Agree from a gameplay perspective to follow Yanger's list, but it's not just about gameplay.

I mean, even from the other elements, 4 and 5 are weak games. 4's story is super short and half-baked and again, the game forces you to New Game+ twice to get the "full" story, which is a poor way to present a story. 5 is sort of a continuation of 4 and while it's longer and more thought out, it inherits a lot of the poor plot pieces from 4 (the whole "Dark Chips" subplot in both games is just retarded).
Also, you mentioned the music before--1, 2, 3, and 6 all have the same composer and have great soundtracks while Capcom switched composers for 4 and 5, and both games are worse for it.

Pretty sure he just meant to disregard his question as he figured out it's LoL.

I'm not asking you to ruin your nostalgia, but from the perspective of someone who's never played the series, I think it's completely possible for 1's gameplay flaws to turn them off to the series when many of them were fixed over the next 2 iterations.
I enjoyed 1 a lot when I played it through the first time as well--it just hasn't aged that well, and in the interest of best trying to introduce someone to the series, I'd at least be a little hesitant about suggesting it as someone's first entry into the series when they don't even know for sure if they like the gameplay yet.

Capcom really tried to milk that super hard for whatever reason. I think 6 was actually slated to have them as well, but they got cut in the NA release because of how unpopular they were in 5.

Found the one I have, and it is 6, so I know what I'm doing now, although I also should probably read the 4 books I bought months ago....
I got the first two books in the Kingkiller Chronicles and the First Law Series, books 1-3. I read the first book in King Killer, but haven't even started The Wise Man's Fears.

Emu reads a bunch of here, he just acts like a JonGalt who actually has a stable connection and catches up and posts from time to time. He plays a bit of League but mostly DotA.

I just meant I figured out what they were playing, not that I disliked what they were playing.
Also Alaric is right. I read pretty much every post here, but sometimes I get behind so I don't post much while catching up on the thread.
