The draw comes from the well written characters, amazing soundtrack, and slick style. But, if you're looking for a good overarching plotline that runs the entire story from beginning to end, it doesn't have one, and that irks some people. There's at least a couple people I know that hate episodic shows, and they didn't like it.

How episodic is it? is every episode completely standalone? or do characters persist between the episodes besides the protagonist? is there any references to prior episodes or anything within the show?
i can't stand wholly stand alone shows, but i don't mind episodic shows that actually have a tie in between episodes even if its just cameos.

The core group of characters last throughout the show. There are one or two small arcs that span across two episodes I think, but other than that each episode is independent from the last.
edit Oh right the final arc also is multiple episodes

Fine..
Several of the episodes are indeed entirely stand alone. In fact I use one or two of them to lure new anime fans into things from time to time. Having said that, the stand alone episodes for the most part help define characters and set up the overall plotline which does exist but isn't really stated as the end goal(partially because the protagonists have no interest in it until forced).
Some characters from other episodes show up again some references do happen but generally it's subtle stuff.

There's the core cast of 4, but the only other recurring characters are few and far between. Except the last handful of episodes are the closing arc.
I mean, there's a minimal overarching plot (who exactly Faye is, what's up with Spike's past, etc) which comes up every now and then, but every episode other than the last arc is completely standalone.

If you don't like it because it is too episodic try Baccano! or my personal favorite Durarara!!
Personally I prefer episodic shows or very short arcs because if the basic device of the show is some long drawn out convoluted story cough*naruto*cough it usually gets in the way of hilarious characters and good artwork. In other words, long arcs are gimmicks for naive plebeians cough*naruto*cough.

I'm so drained, I really, really hope I'm not working Saturday...I dont think I could handle 5 days with one of my coworkers...Especially after a 5th coil pack blew in the company truck we use....
I apparently have 69 loading screens in dota o.O I will never use half of them, even with them being on shuffle.

still waiting for a korean restaurant to feature a rice dish called cowboy bibimbap.

I am the most mellow I've ever been in my life. A long bike ride carrying beer followed by one of those beers an d I'm sinking off my chair. Also, fuck Recettear. I don't think I've ever been so frustrated in such a small span of time, but god damn it if I can't stop. For those who don't know, Recettear is a game where you own an item shop you'd see in a jrpg/mmo.
