If managing a budget is sage advice, then that's kinda sad...

Yeah well lesson learned I suppose. Anyone have any suggestions for a PSU? I think my GPU has a 500W minimum so probably shoot for 600? I started with a 500w like 5 years ago, but as I upgraded, I was getting dangerously close to exceeding that and decided I'd rather have too much for a while than risk not having enough and needing to upgrade the PSU again. Yeah that one seems pretty nice. A little more expensive than I was hoping but at this point I'd rather not undershoot again and have to ship back another PSU. just buy a cx500, or cx500m, they're fairly affordable. also, i'm surprised your original psu wasn't enough wattage. maybe the amps on the 12v rails weren't enough. Don't think it's worth the extra money to invest in the future? It's like 20 bucks more. Weirdly the cx600 seems to be the same price as the cx500 on Newegg.
Before you buy a new PSU you should just unplug your graphics card and run your system on the integrated AMD board and see if it stops crashing.
Your total system should only pull like 350W, but that usually means you want 500-600W PSU for leniency in upgrade (incase you upgrade to 450W system or something) and also because PSUs are most efficient at around the 50% mark
XFX makes da bests PSU I got a 750W modular one for $25 because rebates are the best

Let's not underestimate how difficult it is to manage a budget.
I mean, it's "easy," but actually doing it? OP

Basically I can load up my computer now and get to Windows but it just randomly freezes. do another install. Eh, random freezes at low load sounds like heat/power issues to me. Btw, just sayin'.

What a god. Although I think I was also having issues with my HDD because I couldn't even get Windows installed before.

I mean, I don't keep a strict budget, but I have a very distinct idea of how much all of my mandatory expenses sap from my income. Ever since I've had a steady income I've had no troubles managing my bill/leisure expenses.
Although, it's entirely possible that this is because in college I didn't have a job and multiple times made it through the school year with ~$500 for leisure.

What it says on the box is not actually what you need
The R9 270 pulls ~150W under peak conditions and usually idles 25W
It says 500W minimum probably to be on the safe side after taking into consideration GPU load and the rest of your components.

Ah, see this is more my speed. My "budgeting" is basically this check: "I have rent, utilities, and groceries taken care of, some money to save, and enough to blow on whatever I want."

My "budgeting" is basically this check: "I have rent, utilities, and groceries taken care of, some money to save, and enough to blow on whatever I want." Yeah see my issue is that I lived at home and saved money from Junior year of HS until 2 years out of college and didn't pay for my own college education, and now live in a cheap as balls apartment making a decent check, so honestly I can make these splurge buys without ever worrying about running low on funds. That sounds kind of like a brag, but it can be alarming when I realize that I bought like plane tickets, models, fancy dinners, games, and all my groceries without ever looking at my balance. I'm probably fine spending what I do (as games/figures are really the only things I splurge on, I'm normally frugal most other times), but it can be worrying.

Wave! I'm glad you posted. How are things? Is your recovery going well?
Look, I just have to ask, now that you had surgery do you have to sit on one of those donut things? Purely curiosity.
