You could try differentiating them by applying Cyan and Turqoise to the cables to give it a feel of glowing electricity rather than dull heavy industrial cables and apply a white highlight to show random discharges arcing across its length. Some samples include this, this and this. For the pauldrons, a gold edging would sharpen the detail and help take the emphasis off the base colour so it doesn't seem like it's related to the cables. You could also then apply gold inscriptions on the pauldrons to show ornamentation and emphasise how these are the elite units in your army. The main Necron symbol on the chest could also be given gold highlight. That would also give you scope to go for an Egyptian theme sort of thing if you want and you could flock the base with a desert style. Of course you could also use another highlight colour like white. You could also try for the marbled look that models like this. Alternatively you might not want the cables to seem "alive" with energy and want them to be like heavy industrial cabling so the emphasis is on the main body of the model instead. (Esp if you go for detailed shoulder work or something) In which case maybe you could try just leaving the cable black with minor lighting effects so it seems the gun (which has a black base) is an extension of the Necron itself and leaves the colour emphasis of the model on the Necron's body. If you prefer something slightly more lively, there's always the Black/Yellow High Voltage warning chevrons, or dull primary colours like a heavy matte Ocre Red like how real wires are colour-coded. I would also strongly suggest colouring the eyes into something that's really striking and glowy (I personally like the idea of that neon green look or maybe red eyes like mechs have) just so it doesn't seem like some mannequin going to war but something with a cruel and real intellect that's going to hunt you down. | ||
