Tolkien trivia is like BW, SSBM, or poker*. Everyone thinks they're good cause they "beat all their friends" and then they get crushed by someone who actually knows that shit. *comparison shamelessly stolen from Hot Bid.

I'm not saying Colbert doesn't know his Tolkien, just that I haven't seen anything to actually confirm it. I've spent the past hour looking up clips of Colbert (LOL government jobs) and what I've found is: -Colbert listed a bunch of Aragorn's aliases when he was working for the Daily Show. Impressive but not totally amazing or anything. -Colbert asked Franco why Galadriel came to Middle-Earth and Franco had no clue (Colbert called Galadriel part of Feanor's family here, she's his niece so not quite true) -Franco asked Colbert to name two of the Valar, and Colbert names most of the big ones and their domains Basically nothing more than what I would expect from a big fan who's read all of Tolkien's books.

Like offering another set of eyes, I'm not saying I'll have 100% accuracy but I'm also not offering to read a million things a day. I know I'm not an editor but I also know I'm very good at catching errors. Most of my job is making sure reports to the FDA are accurate.

It's about lineage and family houses. Galadriel is the daughter of Feanor's half-brother, so there is a blood relationship, but she is certainly not part of the House of Feanor, which is kind of implied by "the family of". No nerdshaming pls. I am nitpicky but not bitter.
