I was under the impression that OWB was the only TLer(that I know of) that is anywhere near me, but fwiw I grew up in Chardon, which is a little south of Mentor, and if that's meaningless to you then you didn't grow up near me =p.

I'm pretty sure NE Ohio is like a dead gaming area. I remember when TBC launched, I didn't pre-order it, I literally showed up to the mall at midnight and was one of only like 6 people, so I just walked up and got a copy for what I think was at the time the largest game launch in history. The Cleveland barcrafts that tried to get going had very little response(I followed the thread to see if it would be worth attending), there's like no local LAN scene. It would probably be different if I grew up in Columbus instead.

North Royalton I know of Mentor but not Chardon. I would have been at college in Indiana at the time of TBC release. I thought I remembered getting it digitally?

The closest I got to a LAN was having 4 computers set up in our living room for me and my brothers. My parents didn't believe in console gaming but building computers was where it was at. It was so funny when people would visit and walk in and be like... you have a computer lab in your house. So I LAN'd at home and played a few shows in a band at Peabody's and that's about all I did in Cleveland lol.

We had a decent LAN center in Mentor-on-the-Lake but it got shut down My friend goes to Ohio State and I'm pretty jealous of the LAN stuff they get to do there. Of course now I'm in Athens which is even more in the middle of nowhere than Eastlake.

I'm guessing you're at OU then. I've been to Athens quite a few times to see friends or go to a cabin in Hocking Hills (pretty cool place)

@Req I offered to see you on Valentine's day and you totally ignored me!

I have little experience, women suck and are a waste of time unless your 100 percent committed to settling down for good. Why bother putting effort in if you don't think it could work.. Single is the way to go until you're ready for the big step.

EDIT: I'm actually being serious too, if anyone was remotely wondering if there was a hint sarcasm there.

second EDIT: I guess I should clarify, I have a ton of women friends and even consider some to be best friends of mine but I just never saw the point of dating/breaking up/dating singling out your friends cause a girl said so or having to turn down plans because it may not be able to include your gf.. lol

third edit: TL:DR commitment issues.

Hey guys, I need some help.

I'm going to be in a beginners MtG tourney in around a month, and I need help building my deck.

The cards can only be from Theros/Born of the Gods, though I can also use guildgates.

I have never played MtG, and I don't own any cards. My idea on how to get started building a deck was to get a Born of the Gods battle booster pack, and then get a couple cards packs. I have around $150.00 to spend on this little project. I was also looking at getting individual cards off the internet, but I don't want to just netdeck a competitive level deck, and I was hoping to get some input from one of you more experienced MtGers.

For what kind of deck, from my Hearthstone and other TCG experience, I like playing control, and some of the more combo oriented mid-range decks. I play mostly Watcher/Undead variants of Priest, Handlock, and some later game Shaman, if that gives you some perspective.

Any ideas where to start?

Take a look on the decks here: http://www.mtgtop8.com/format?f=BL
lol it seems like the block format is dominated by Naya midrange

Play naya or just GW/RW Heroic. The white Heroic Dudes are really really good in block. Either that or try and do something stupid with Pack Rat.

Cool. Would you start out buy buying card packs to get the basic cards, or just straight buy the exact cards you need from a site like www.magicstronghold.com?

if you know what deck you want to play, buy singles directly. I recommend tcgplayer.com for buying cards.

Thanks. I'll have to spend some time deciding what kind of deck I want to run, and then do some theory crafting. For lands, do most people run things like Guildgates or shock lands, or are base lands sufficient? If I'm running a GW deck, is it necessary to buy 4 of the Selesnya Guildgate?

Play naya or just GW/RW Heroic. The white Heroic Dudes are really really good in block. Either that or try and do something stupid with Pack Rat.

Don't listen to this guy, he doesn't know MtG at all. Instead just play mono red burn.

Enjoy your win.

P.S. I'll accept any prize earnings you throw my way.
Hey! How you doin'?

it depends but I'd imagine a GW deck would run 4 temple garden and 4 temple of plenty.
