5th round (or whatever they're called in curling), Canada missed a chance to steal 3 points (I'm assuming by missing an easy-ish shot that would clear an opponent stone and leave Canada with the 3 closest stones). Then in 10th period they missed a clearing stone and went into over time. I didn't see the game, but can only assume this is fairly accurate. | ||

I guess curling is actually quite close to the jeu de boules, 'cept you replace sand/dirt with ice, you put a circle instead of using the full surface, and you add broomsticks. | ||

Curling is somewhat similar to bocce/jeu de boules, yes. A huge part of curling is the Hammer, that is the last shot of each end, because the team who throws last has a huge advantage. At the start of the game you flip for hammer (well the winner of the flip can choose to get hammer or choose which colour he plays, but everyone picks the hammer), and then every time a team scores, the next end the other team gets the hammer. Because of this, a team with the hammer generally won't settle for only 1 point. If they can't score at least 2 they will try to blank the end, because that way they keep the hammer for the next end. That's why blank ends are fairly common, especially in the pro Mens' games since they are godly at removing rocks. A steal is where the team without hammer scores, this is pretty unusual in pro play because it requires the team with hammer to fuck up pretty bad. | ||
