When a guy like sOs decides to play straight up macro PvT, you know the meta is good for Protoss.
|
Somehow sOs being among the player roster at this particular HSC feels comically out of place, like a time traveler from another era visiting.
|
Strong showing from uthermal!

Nah the meta is still bad
It’s just that sOs is better than everyone on the field. Except Zoun.

uthermal vs sOs will be a must watch

By what possible measure do you see this as being a bad meta for protoss? They have excellent early scouting and know every T and Z opponent is playing on a timer.

Given the low post count and the absurdness of the take it's probably just a bait Protoss won both GSL, Serral started losing series to protoss, Clem is beating virtually every terran with his protoss offrace, the likes of Gumiho / ByuN / Cure lose to more and more protosses...
uThermal vs sOs should be fun, but I am disappointed one of Zoun or HeroMarine will be eliminated this early

The Protoss whine is almost unbearable on the main stream. Heromarine gifted a cyclone, almost an entire drop, and 2 Banshees to Zoun without getting anything in return, and the commentators go on about how he barely could have done anything due to the matchup at the moment. Where was this type of commentary when Zerg was overpowered for like 5+ years? unbelievable.

The commentary was too busy praising Serral as the GOAT as soon as he won his first BlizzCon so they forgot to speak about Z balance edit: damn sOs is entertaining to watch, nice g3 vs ShoWTimE

They should have given HSC a spot for EWC so now we can watch sOs vs Ryung for it.
|
I strongly doubt that Ryung will manage to bust his way through 3 consecutive series against protoss
however, I do hope that he repeats his immortal 2012 battle cry
IMBA IMBA IMBA IMBA IMBA IMBA IMBA gg

Top 3 all protoss, when was the last time this has happened in a non-weekly?
Also, the tournament field proving favorable for ShowTime as I predicted.
|
Still feels like apart from sOs these were the strongest players in this lineup - and sOs himself is a giant wildcard atm. Not surprised about this top 3 regardless of balance imo

ShoWTimE vs Zoun in grand finals is what I would have expected from this HSC, other than maybe HeroMarine making a deep run or Lambo. sOs overperforming, not sure how he could beat Ryung that easily but happens I guess Looks like ShoWTimE can redeem himself from that HSC loss vs Gumiho, he looks more in shape than Zoun today

This sOs guy can barely qualify for Code S, but he goes overseas and immediately stomps foreigners like it's 2014.

Could Showtime request a longer break between the final matches? A mental reset could be helpful right after getting 3:0d like that.
Edit: Man, being so close twice has to feel bad. Congrats to Zoun.
|
Funny how HSC has become the last holdout of Korean dominance despite being so European heavy, that's 3 in a row!
Great stuff to Zoun though.

ShoWTimE losing HSC by a single map difference for the second time

Let's go Vitality Zoun!! The Koreans are dominating this year so far, with DH Dallas and now HSC. The EWC will be the real test though

Another expected result from Showtime. He can’t beat any Koreans when the stakes are high
|
Although on paper, Zoun should have won this. My heart still aches for Showtime here.
|
Poor confused Zoun asking how much he'll have to pay for drinks...

Well the only foreigner worth mentioning thwt sos beat was heromarine.

Kinda weird year to properly gauge the shape of the field though for sure

Oh man, ShowTime was so close, although losing at that spot in the tournament and in that way is on brand for him.
GGs to Zoun. Fun tournament as always.
|
Zoun played like a god at GSL so him winning this isnt a big surprise

Showtime beeing Showtime and delivers exactly what is expected. On paper Zoun was the only player in that tournament better than him. Congratz to Zoun
|
At what point can we start to officially call him soOtime?
|
That final game was heartbreaking. Seems like ShoWTimE can't stay composed when it really really matters. GGs anyway!
|
First tourney win for Zoun? Congrats d00d!

Ah Tobi man... couldnt watch live, had to catch up today...what a win and loss! Lets see how EWC goes...

It was cool to see sOs playing better. Yes, the field wasn't the strongest, but he looked much improved from his GSL outings. Far fewer extremely sloppy micro decisions. He floated a bit, but the biggest question mark was his allergy to building more than ~55 probes even in 4 base macro situations.
Still, if sOs keeps playing for real (the fact that he even entered a tournament after not making EWC bodes well?) I think he could be a strong pro again. Some of these mistakes are to be expected from someone like sOs, but it's underappreciated how he could play a mechanically sound macro game at his peak, even if he was no Rain.
