I wonder if TY will participate!

Delighted to hear it's all in person, and two seasons is great. Shame it's only over 6 weeks. I hope something can continue next year and be spaced out more. Assume there will be English commentary? (tasteless and state)

Only 12 slots is very sad, I hope next year is more drawn out. Also I do wonder if for SOOP whether it's worth it because Patreon contributions will drop with it only being on SOOP not Youtube.

I don't care about anything, 1 more year of GSL is AMAZING news to me! :D :D

Any word on how you qualify?

Still playing so not qualified or am I reading it wrong?

Concerning Reynor: Sorry, I fumbled the system, didn't realize it was a two-stage-qualification.
EDIT: Fumbled again. Reynor did already qualify, the 2nd Round is only to determine which players make it into the 2nd Stage of GSL proper. So yeah, Reynor is in!

Shin, Bunny, Zoun, Creator, DRG, and Ryung are the notable eliminations. On the one hand the tournament feels more prestigious if not every pro Korean qualifies (as it would basically be with 16 players), on the other hand at this point I feel like all Koreans who've stuck with SC2 this long sort of deserve to play...
Impressive to see Trigger qualified - he's had some great results online recently, but qualifying for GSL over those names is still a big step forward.

12 slots is a shame looking at how many players signed up for this

On April 26 2025 23:01 Die4Ever wrote: 12 slots is a shame looking at how many players signed up for this
22 players signed up for the tournament (if I counted correctly). So slightly more than 50% of the participants got in. So I think sadly 12 players is a pretty good spot

Liquipedia says Reynor qualified even though he lost the qualifying match vs herO? I don't see a final win for Reynor where he finished
I see Solar and Cure are counted as qualified too, so I guess the "qualifying match" is a bit of a misleading name lol
I guess it's the "qualifying match" for the higher seeds that skip round 1?
I never really like these formats where we see so few games from the top players, the champ could theoretically have just 4 matches broadcast for the tournament as quickly as 11 games, and for the 8th place players we might only see 2 matches with an 0-4

I fell for that two:
Round 1 of the qualifier was basically a "placement" round. The Top 2 finisher go into the R2 Top Group and play out the players that directly qualify for the 2nd Group Stage of GSL. The other ones (like Reynor) qualify for the first stage. The Losers of R1 play out the remaining slots for Group Stage 1.
It is atleast very consistent with GSL that they always play out the "invites" for the first tournament of the season, they rarely give out free slots. And while the format has certain problems, it seems the perfect one if you have to cramp two seasons of GSL into barely three months, because they need to finish in advance of EWC.

How is this related? I don't think they are getting money from EWC so I don't see how EWC continuing affects the ability to hold GSLs. They likely announced it now because they had to wait to see how they can fit the schedule leading up to EWC.

Winner of each GSL get 1 spot into EWC, so it acts like an offline-qualifier like DH Dallas. I dont think they care enough about running GSL even with the crowdfunding, unless there is other factor involved.

Yes PLEASE
I'm tempted with the idea of staying in KR for the first GSL season (or even both), this is a rare opportunity that it's not only all in person but you have TWO very condensed seasons making it easy to watch all the matches live without spending too much on lodging... anyone else thinking this?

Pretty good prize pool the EWV generously funded the GSL. Compare to the sad GSL pool the last couple of years

It's an official qualifier so I'm pretty sure part of the GSL funding is EWC money in addition to the paid trip to Ryadh

It's actually about the same level as GSL 2023 after you add on the crowdfunded money, so I think they might have just baked the crowdfund money into the base prize this time around (they released a full crowdfunding report for 2023, but we don't have one for 2024 cause the entire org basically went AWOL for 10 months).

This Reynor vs sOs series is not the highest level of SC2 I've seen.
