AFL finals format! Love it Will be really important to finish top of your group!

Awesome! This tournament has been awesome to watch in the past. Looking forward to it.

donated some bucks to support the format is nice.
why does it say" Total Max $10,000USD?" what would happen if there is more money through donations?

Would guess it goes towards funding the next one. But just my thought

Doesnt Blizzard still need to grant the license to host tournament with prizepool over 10k? Though I doubt anyone from MS really care about it at this point.

Similar to what we did for PiGFest 3.0 and 4.0, if the prize pool hits $10k we will divert any funds over that to the next PiGFest.
Will make that clearer in the post.

Note: qualifier information has now been updated in the OP

The final spots of PiGFest 5.0 have been determined:
Congrats to Cure for claiming the spot from Qualifier #1.
And big congrats to SKillous and trigger for claiming their spots from Qualifier #2!

kin ell, this is some narsty shit

The groups have been released today!
And alongside that we're happy to announce that Rotti will be co-casting with me for the Group Stage this week, from Thursday to Sunday!
|
Nice looking groups, will be interessting gr.D see how maru is atm.
Pig and Rotti cast, cant be more hype
|
Pig is awesome for putting this together!
In the little comments on the photos, everyone gets a compliment except Solar, who gets "nuke magnet" LOL
Has Solar eaten any large nukes besides the famous one vs Maru?
Classic lost a game to Maru just this year by letting his entire army get nuked. Admittedly it wasn't as bad as losing a won game like solar did, but he still let a maxed protoss army get demolished by a nuke...

Have to see the replay to see how Serral lost those 2 games

Hell yeah. Looking forward to this tournament. Some entertaining games today.

The map loss against trigger was because Serral missed that trigger took the less common third, prepared for a push that never happened, and got stuck on 60ish vs. 80ish workers in the midgame.

I remember at least one other time he got his entire army nuked vs ByuN, but it was in some online cup, won't find the vod for it

Funny that clem won the pvts but lost the tvp

Maru going 0-4 and out is certainly... interesting. Nice to see Protoss doing well...

last place group stage finishes at both Master's Coliseum and PiGSty... Maru seems pretty checked out?

He does look like some guy who just pick a random old build and go with it, ignoring all the scouting/adjustment/attention to detail. Against Dark he build 20 Ghosts like he didnt know they are now 3 supplies each, and against Classic he did the same 2 base heavy pressure build that got completely countered. It was just hard to watch tbh.

Maru and Dark, the titans.. down to the ground after meeting the protoss race.. It's crazy, it would never happen before. It shows you the state of the game.

After all they’ve accomplished, I can’t blame a Maru or a Dark for not being in their best shape.
Hell Reynor declined an invite for this tourney.
Not being critical of this and other events people have organised to keep us with some competitive action, I think it’s great and heartening to see, but I don’t think it’s going to motivate some players who may already be very disheartened with the state of the scene at the moment.

It shows you the state of these two players. Nothing else. Game / Balance is fine

Game / Balance is fine I don’t know if we’ve cracked it and the game is as balanced or fun as it can be.
Equally it’s also really hard to tell as only a handful of players are really bringing their A game and grinding a lot at the minute, seemingly.

Anyone that could summarize serral v maxpax today? Must have been quite quick games

So nobody is mentioning how Terran has been eliminated early in the recent tournaments outside of Clem? I understand that Maru is not practicing/playing hard but the rest of the Terran seems to be putting up the effort but they just didnt have the tool to fight anymore? Ghost and Mines got nerfed to oblivion without any compensation on other units. Then mutiple minor nerf on Libs, Sensor Tower, Hellbat, buff reverted on Cyclone make Mech trash again. It felt like Terran need to get a REALLY good fight in the early game in order to win, a close fight just aint enough to keep up with the other 2 race in the current meta base on what I have seen so far.

TLMC always have outlier results because of new maps and lack of practice, so I wouldnt count on that. And including the weekly, other Terrans arent doing very well unless bracket luck push all the Terran in one side. The funny thing is Clem himself helping to eliminate other Terrans with Protoss. Then again, this could just be due to lack of participation/practice. HM and Spirit not playing, neither is Gumiho for most weekly, Oliveira retire, so Terran is left with just Cure/Byun/Bunny outside of Clem.

false concerns about Serral's ZvP into another convincing win

Nah, I wouldn't blame the maps at all for the TLMC result. They played some very orthodox-ass StarCraft and Clem just played worse that day. Particularly, he just fell apart against sub 10-minute pushes because of various early-game stuff not going his way.

Why did Clem take the easy path of playing PvT vs ByuN instead of going for TvT? :/ Serral still dominant, I wonder if he can beat Clem though
|
Enjoying Shin vs Zoun a lot...some good, old-fashioned PvZ wackiness.
|
|
Clem vs Maxpax and Shin vs Zoun were great matches, excited for today's matches but idk if I'll stay awake for all of it
|
gotta say great tournament. great players, great games, great vibes and I also like how the grand final ended. GG Serral
|
+ Show Spoiler +What a great ride and insanely packed tournament... I loved all quarterfinals (especially Max versus Clem) and the other nail biter in the semis between Clem and herO. The finals were probably what we all wished for when Maru and Serral faced each other in the past years but it always ended in a one sided slaughter. Clem and Serral have been going back and forth for such a long time now and this was an insanely satisfying final, being metaphoric to this back and forth.
Overall a really nice tournament with niche builds and nice all ins. Players needed to display resilience, creativity as well as flexibility as there was no one-build-to-win-it-all.
Thanks PiG for making this possible, congratulations to Serral and hopefully we see an equally stacked field at Pig Sty 6.0!
|
What an epic series between Serral and Clem. Going to the full length in a BO9 in a TvZ at this level must be grueling.
GG to Serral. Sweet to see again that he'll always eventually find a way to win, no matter the meta or opponent. Clem's reaction on camera to losing his reaper to the slow lings in game 9 foreshadowed the outcome, haha.
Big thanks to PiG. This was an amazing tournament.

Big thanks to Pig for delivering another amazing tournament
Also serral continue to be the King of the mountain
|
Thank you PiG, awesome event! Loved the Bo7+s in the playoffs.
|
Fantastic tourney. GG all. <3
|
In these waning days of SC2, it's a gift to have these fleeting remainders of such high-level matches and play. Who knows how much we have left, so I definitely savor every bit of these. Thanks to Pig for organizing such a wonderful event!
|
Such a great event! Defitely deserves more recognition than it got. Close series, stacked line-up. Maybe not the best time zone. But if you were able to watch, you sure had a blast! Loved that last 3 players standing were representing different factions.
|
how often did we have BO9 in grand finals go full 9 games before? I wish all finals be like that.
|
Pig is best. Great finals, great tournament!
|
The playoffs were great to watch! Some super close games, i loved it.

Yeah you could see Clem getting tired but he also really wanted to win. What a champ! Congratz to the GOAT Serral for getting another notch in the belt.
Great tournament, great orga, great players! Can't wait for PiG Fest 6

I would like to ask if pig can open up the rep of this festival for players to learn from.
