The fight for the top spot and the fight for the last spot in the playoffs is taking off. Gonna be a banger of a week!
|
Rough draw for Liquid, while 1-1 Reynor is a thing and Elazer has a chance to steal a map, they sort of needed Clem vs Reynor or Serral. Abydos also looks in trouble against Onysde.
Wouldn't be surprised if 1st place comes down to map score - if Basilisk and Onysde both win this week without an ace match and Basilisk wins 4-3 against Onysde next week, they'd both have 29 points but Onysde would most likely have better map score.

Ferral is a mad man.
To be fair, I'd do the same thing.
Berserker fighting!

If Ferral steals a map from herO, that thread with the biggest SC2 upsets might have to be updated.

There is actually a chance SSLT misses out
If both SR and PH beat their round 10 opponents 6-0 or 5-1, SSLT could miss out on map difference if they lose to DKZ 0-6, and PH vs SR goes to ace (if PH beats SLT 6-0, an ace loss will see them advance alongside SR, pushing SSLT off with a single map difference). SSLT will need to take one single map off DKZ to be safe.

If I understand the tie breaker, then the number of wins is irrelevant, right? It's just points -> map score. So if Onsyde wins a clean 3 points vs Abydos then Basilisk will need to win the full 3 points to get first, because Onsyde's mapscore is so much better?

Yep. If Onside win in three tomorrow they will be at 28 points and at minimum +29. An ace loss against Basilisk would put them at 29 points and +28 while Basilisk would be on 29 points and +26, one map win away.
Kind of funny since it would mean that Rotti getting in the lineup would have cost them the first place (although it got balanced out by Crank)

I think it's silly that a team can go undefeated and not get first, but if that happens to Basilisk it's also kind of deserved because of all of Reynor's 1-1s. I imagine Reynor will show up strong for the playoffs and it'll be okay though (having to potentially go through DKZ before Onysde is scary for any team though.)

They've really been a great team this season!

Yep, didn't expect such a strong performance from PH today, it's gonna be a tense last week. Kind of crazy that we have just 5 maps of difference between the 6th and 9th place.

Math for the final playoff spot:
If PH vs SR ends up in non ace, SSLT goes through alongside the winner. If PH 4:3 SR, SSLT needs to take two maps off DKZ, or they will be 8th by map difference. If SR 4:3 PH, SSLT needs to take one map off DKZ, or they will be 8th by a single map score difference.

Shoutout to DnS who microed so well he negated Nice's defender advantage in their second game.

whoever plan the season's schedule is a god. Did this guy actually predicted SR and Heros are going to be the closest playoff contending teams upon the last week?

Also Onsyde and Basilisk are literally going to fight for 1st place on the very last match of regular season. Plus, as a support match, SSLT potentially fighting for their playoffs hope on the same day!

ranking 3-5 depend on outcomes of matches TL vs ABS and SSLT vs DKZ ranking 6-8 depend on outcomes of matches PH vs SR and also SSLT vs DKZ
TL vs ABS and PH vs SR are both played next Sat while SSLT vs DKZ is played next Sun, so there might be the possibility that a "best" outcome for both teams can be calculated before that match. Not to imply any match fixing, just to say I can't even imagine at the beginning of the season that the last day of the regular season is of such importance.

Not to imply any match fixing, just to say I can't even imagine at the beginning of the season that the last day of the regular season is of such importance. If DKZ and SSLT want to get the safe outcome for both, they don't need to know the outcome of the other matches. DKZ winning in an ace match gives them 24 points, and a map score of +26, which is untouchable by RL. Losing an ace match gives SSLT 16 points, which cannot be beaten by both SR and PH. So it doesn't even matter what the others do if they "agree" to that. However, PH and SR also know that they are both out with a straight loss, so might "agree" to play for an Ace match, knowing that 1 point might be enough to progress, but 0 definitely isn't, regardless of the outcome of DKZ vs SSLT. It's a bit of a weird situation.
