I would enjoy it if people could make TL.net analogies for the various shitposters in this story.

Who is Xainon? Who is Elentos? Who is Charoisaur?

Based on Mondo's response statement just released, I think ABS is being hoodwinked by IceStar. Here's Mondo's new response(Starshim is IceStar):

(I'm not sure if it was posted on Twitter, but he did post it on the Chinese community:

https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-468968.htm
)

Jaeho "Tailing" Oh

We have confirmed the overall conversation and the trigger of the incident between Starshim and Akira. We could not accurately determine the cause of the problem with Starshim. However, we strongly objected to the harassment (there were differences in translation) that was inflicted on Starshim, and to the disclosure of personal conversations and contract details by DRG. We had prepared to withdraw from the event, but decided to participate at the request of Jae Sun Lee and the WTL side.

We made the following promises with WTL:

The incident was caused by misunderstanding, as announced by WTL and Mondo.

Deletion of the dispute posts between Akira and Starshim.

Starshim's suspension from SCBoy for one month.

Abydos to participate in WTL.

We respect Starshim's courage to speak up and fight for many things, but sometimes it can go too far. Above all, it would have been wiser for Team NV members to ask me, the leader, about related matters.

In the future, I hope to prioritize expressing my opinions together with everyone as a member of Club NV.

Jaeho "Tailing" Oh

To determine the truth, I re-examined the original interview post. This is where it all started, the interview post, if any NV players see it can be based on:

https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-468401.htm

In this post, I checked the original IceStar response: she thinks the loss of MYG has nothing to do with SLT and ABS.(In her reply to another provocateur, YKHD, before it all started, iceStar said that "all the Chinese community amateurs think of MYG as their father." )

Starlight responded to her, saying he was joking and apologized if he offended her.

IceStar warned Starlight to be more careful. But at the same time, she said that MYG was a bad guy.

Then Akira showed up and questioned why MYG was not a good guy. He also said that MYG is friends with DRG and Classic, who have left the team, and their contract is reasonable and legal.

Then it was up to iceStar to question the legality of MYG's contract with two players:

https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-468516.htm

Since Ice Star is representing both her personally and NV's demand(as NV's Chinese spokeman) that MYG explain the situation with DRG and the Classic contract, MYG boss Akira was forced to show discord a detailed exchange in a response post:

https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-468547.htm

Now, let's go back to Mondo's response. Mondo points out that they objected the harassment to IceStar and the exposure of the DRG contract. Apparently, IceStar didn't tell them she posted 'MYG is bad guy' first. IceStar also didn't explain to Mondo that the reason MYG disclosed the details of its contract with DRG was at her request. (In her capacity as a spokesperson for NV's Chinese community.)

Then, confusingly, MYG is not a member of WTL code S this season, why should the conflict between MyG. Akira and iceStar cause ABS to consider quitting WTL code S?We don't know.

To sum up, I think iceStar, as the Chinese spokesman of NV Team, did not describe the whole incident objectively to Mondo.

By the way, if Abs exits WTL in such a dramatic way, MYG could be the next to join WTL according to the ranking.

Very much looking forward to this season of WTL Code S. I am delighted this season seems to have a more even distribution of player strength among teams.

My personal power rank:

#1 Championship favorites:
ABYDOS
BASILISK
DKZ Gaming
ONSYDE Gaming

#2 Will probably make it to the playoffs:
PSISTORM Gaming
Shopify Rebellion
Team Liquid

#3 Could make it to the playoffs:
Berserker Esports
Invictus Gaming
Platinum Heroes
SSLT
Starlight Twinkle

Would def put SLT and PH into the #7 seed battle. One of TL, SR and Psi bound to underperform.

From what I've seen in the Chinese community, the dramatic incident resulted from miscommunication.

Starshim is a fan of NV and she presented herself as NV's official contactor in the Chinese community.(We do not know if she had been officially authorised, but she did have the contact details of the NV members)

As a result of DRG's transfer to MYG, WTL organiser contacted her for details, as it would be against the rule to employ DRG as a mercenary rather than an official player. When told by the organisers about the match rules, MYG boss Akira signed an official contract with DRG and Classic until the beginning of Code S, and the agreement also confirms the contract would be renewed if MYG entered Code S. Sadly, MYG failed to enter code S and DRG returned to team Abydos(formerly NV)

As Starshim has been contacted by WTL organisers about the transfer, she thought MYG did not have credibility and failed her admired players. (Though she was unaware that the new contract satisfies WTL rules). After MYG failed to enter S, some Chinese fans criticised the performance of DRG and Classic, and Akira participated in these arguments, which leaves Starshim with an even worse impression.

When the interview for Code A winners was released, a player of SLT was unaware that this interview was official and joked that SLT would 干死(which sounds horrific, but only means a harmless challenge in the Chinese community) Abydos. SLT members have close relationships with MYG( Akira's aim was to promote amateur players in China and SLT was initially an amateur team). Regarding her team being humiliated(though that's not the truth), Starshim challenged MYG's credibility and released her contact history with the WTL organisers.

After that, MYG boss Akira released DRG's contract details on the Chinese forum and WTL organisers have confirmed it is proper. Thus, several angry Chinese fans blamed Starshim for false accusations and trolled her. The other troll 中二汤圆 accuses Akira of gathering these fans and he started another argument.

I'm not sure if Abydos players were aware of the situation. I assume that they only knew Starshim defended them and got trolled. As a result, they made the decision to quit WTL to show support.(This paragraph is only my assumption, as no clear details were released)

After WTL organisers contact them, they were generally aware of what had happened and agreed to continue to participate in the tournament. And Abydos team leader contacted Starshim and gave her a private statement on their agreement, in which Starshim should agree to be banned 1-3 months on the Chinese forum for starting the war. Moreover, Starshim should cease to represent Team Abydos in the Chinese community.

Due to miscommunication (google translate from Korean to English), Starshim released the private statement and asked the forum essays concerning this situation to be removed. Though Team Abydos only asked that to be removed for DRG's contract privacy, Starshim related this situation to her personal experience of being trolled.

Realising that, Abydos team leader made further classification in the Chinese community and confirmed Starshim would not occur in the Chinese forum or represent team Abydos.

By the way, I strongly do not recommend SC lovers outside of China to visit the Chinese SC community. China has a huge amount of passionate SC lovers, but the atmosphere is totally different. As a result of Chinese Internet culture, users there tend to use strong words, which would be considered emotional or even offensive in other cultures. Besides, I wouldn't call it an encouraging atmosphere. Sometimes, when a player loses, things can be ugly. Of course, there are plenty of encouraging fans, but the relatively small amount of emotional fans sometimes could be disturbing. Scboy forum is basically governed by volunteers, you can hardly expect them to be there all the time.

I don't want to be "that guy", but I feel like the Chinese Community is always a bit...special in every game? Like didn't they bully a chinese LoL-Team into closing down their international twitter, because apparently that was a betrayal of their "home fans"? And back in the day in WC3 there was also some questionable things going on...

Don't get me wrong, I love the passion and the involvement they have in lots of games that I follow, but it doesn't really struck me like a community I want to embrace...language-barrier aside ofc

The formation of Chinese Internet culture has quite a long story to say, and it's quite complicated...

But, yes, what you observed is basically accurate. On some occasions, some incidents would be linked to nationalist views. It's not a norm, but sometimes it would happen.
Generally speaking, the atmosphere is passionate, but not always tolerating and encouraging. So I definitely would not recommend players look at their reviews in Chinese communities.
When Solar played in a Chinese team, sometimes he would ask his wife to translate some of the reviews for him. The thing is, when you played well, the fans would praise you dramatically. When you lose(sometimes even after a well-played game), there would be harsh comments. I wouldn't say that's the majority, but as long as you see these comments, that's quite disturbing. As I recall, it did cause some additional pressure on Solar.

The more SC lovers there are in China, the more opinions there would be...Luckily, the organisers of the Chinese community and the Chinese TL editors are decent and friendly people.

Lack of players.
They lost Zoun and couldn t get a replacement.
There are also rumors, that AX is change ownership, so they probably can t negotiate new contracts till that is done.

The Berserker eSports link in the OP isn't correct.

For my curiosity, how common is mandarin knowledge among Korean? I would assume it would be taught in school but maybe I'm wrong?

Chinese characters used in Chinese mainland and Chinese character used in Korean are quite different.

Wow, cant believe we already start the new Regular Season. Btw the schedule for week 1 is out, interesting matchup between DKZ and PsiStorm, Starlight Twinkle also has a good shot at SR as well given the player matchup.
