It's honestly surprising how lackluster the Korean roster to the KR cup is. It feels like most every comparable online event has a better Korean lineup.

They can double the amount of points given to all these ESL online cups. That may give Koreans a higher incentive to play, as well as top players from other regions to play (in EU, Reynor and Serral don't play these ESL Online cups either).

EU and NA cups more exciting than KR cup, kinda sad

She said that the Koreans are even more about hiding strats than other Pros due to their Kespa background. Also for some unknown reason to her they also seem to dislike online cups in general. Anyways GGs to Zoun, very impressive how fast he is improving in just a couple of month after coming back to SC2!!

Beyond hiding strats for upcoming tournaments probably being a concern for the Koreans (upcoming big events have always coincided with lower participation in online events), people play online cups mostly for money. And Kung Fu Cup and Olimoleague are better deals on that end.
We're a long way away before people seriously start playing for the points in KR I believe.

I feel like the points are too low to be exciting. In EU and NA people love them because so much seeding is done based on these points, to the stage where a good run at IEM early in the year has even qualified people before because they get better groups for every challenger, then circuit event. Every group stage then bracket is decided by points.
For Koreans this doesn’t exist because GSL uses their own form of seeding, so ten points doesnt seem game changing. We very rarely see Koreans missing out on word champs by a few points and you’re talking about winning so many cups for that to work out. Yes, some will probably start trying to grind more, but not everyone like in EU.
Also I’ve always felt Korean stuff starting at midday korean time, especially on a Sunday, isnt a timezone a lot of these guys play in. The Korean ladder is usually very quiet at those hours so players aren’t often around at that time.
Id be surprised if the lineup changes much after Katowice outside of the usual onliners popping in each week.

Heromarine out before the finals I think we have to restart the cup.

I'm not sure increasing the points would do anything until you increase them to a (comparatively) crazy amount. I agree that most online cups are tempting due to prize pool for KR so we see better participation in other online tournaments, but I've also touched on the 'weirdness' of the EPL times before. It seems like a great time for Koreans but yeah, KR-timed tournaments have basically never started 1-2pm KST.
It's a good point about the GSL seeding, but do we know that's going to continue since GSL hasn't officially been announced/explained? Honest Q.
Solar's recent interview gave some perspective on participation which I was glad to see, since I also talked about how I don't want to speak for Korean players when I go over a list of potential 'whys' they don't show up.
"Because it's just 10 points per win, I don't think the players really understand the importance of it. The top players, in particular, think they will [qualify] anyway...So I think the players are a little overconfident...Also, as far as I know, there are a lot of players who won't be able to travel overseas next year. Probably more than fans expect, the top tier players will be barred from travelling. So I don't think they're worried that much about earning points this year." https://tl.net/forum/starcraft-2/556114-interview-solar-talks-gsl-region-lock-and-chinas-proleague-ambitions
In general I think participation/importance of these cups for all regions will fluctuate. People thinking they do add up, people thinking they aren't worth the 5 hours, it just losing its novelty, new tournaments being announced, people thinking they've 'secured their spot via main tournament winnings', etc etc.

With no KR league announced still, why would Koreans bother playing in it?

Wow, Rodzyn and AqueroN eliminating the #1 and #2 seeds of the ESL Open Cup #7 Europe with PtitDrogo and Lambo is pretty wild.

Heromarine is totally owning this tournament.

Do we know, when they are going to change the seeding from last years WCS points to the ESL points, the Players earned so far? Next weekend or do we have to wait until 1st GSL and EPT Major are done?

Germany is almost as dominat in Open Cups Eu as Korea is in Open Cups Kr And Big Gabe allready overtook Has in the standings despite Has deeper run at IEM.
