Serral can defeat top players through mechanics and superior multitasking alone.

If it's just that, you can rewatch HSC XVIII where Zerg had major issues against Terran.

I actually think the players with the best mechanics would be favored here where strategies and compositions might not be figured out

Right, but will he play standard or maybe opt for more timing attacks etc.

That sucks, Special would be a good replacement since his playstyle is similar. I'd also love Skillous as a replacement, having a russian surely wouldn't hurt and he's quite good. But he's no terran and I'm not sure if that even would be possible since it's on such a short notice. If Special can't go, I'm expecting someone more close to Germany tbh.

Mad respect for Special for joining at such short notice, he's doing it for TY too I guess. He'll have a good time I'm sure.

Really cool move from Special <3

Yes, Special is in! At least one of the most desires comes, even if it happens at the expense of TY.
Are groups being modified because of that?

Special not wanting to play on Thursday is reasonable too.

Hello.
I can confirm the following
Group swap from day 1 and day 2. Both evening groups are swapped:
B (Serral, Special, Showtime, uThermal, PtitDrogo, Kelazhur, Bly, MarinelorD moved to Friday D (Reynor, INnoVation, Parting, Heromarine, Harstem, MaNa, SortOf, Denver) moved to Thursday
So a 1:1 swap. Thanks!

Sad TY cannot make it...visa issues can be hell (i know i know his passport expired) but still very happy to see special. 25 hours to go!

Hope the players in group D are able to manage this change.

|
Just so you guys know, we are still working on tiebreak stuff. Sorry for the confusion, obviously you are smart and we potentially do map difference first, thanks for the input. Sorry a bit stressed here, once we are done we will obviously announce the final decision. Could take a bit since Traidos the big brain isnt here yet.
You guys help us whenever you point out mistakes, so thank you

Hey, can you explain me what is logic behind invitees usualy? I am a little angry you didn't invited Special, who is probably top1 or top3 terran in Circuit, and you invited soul, sortof, zanster and tlo who are by all criterias mediocre players at their best. If Special can come now, he would come at first for sure.
I am big fan of your work but I can't agree with invites. I think you missed to invite few more great players and kick out those who will serve to entertain audience and boost map score for good players like Medoed in NW19. I hope that likes of Neeb or Masa refused invites and mediocres was just pure replacement but Special's case make me doubt it.
Good luck with cup, I can't wait for it.
p.s.please don't understand this as negative critic, I am absolute fan of HSC and your dedication!

There are multiple possible reasons tbh... no need to be angry. Mostly travel costs I'd imagine. TY didn't participate so these stayed (about) the same for TakeTV I'd imagine.
As for other invites, those are no wish concert really. Check out the other thread in general forum or especially this post:

Hey, so I am doing the invites mostly so this is very much directed at me. I don't take it as offence at all. SpeCial was invited beforehand as was Neeb, both declined for example. As for MaSa. I invited him in the past and he couldn't really make it ever since his team was never sending him if I remember correctly. Also he has no history with HSC so while I personally (NarutO) want to make an as good lineup as possible I can understand that others internally and audience also want a mix of personality, history etc.
So players like Taeja who isn't really insane right now gets invited due to being 3 time champion and you simply cant miss that. TLO has history all over HSC etc. There are a lot of reasons and I believe we have a very good mix, a lot more leaning towards skilled than funny actually this time.
So in the end as you can see its a matter of preference. If you would add all very good players but remove every player that actually goes and sits down on the couch, you remove a lot of what is HomeStoryCup. Also I want to point out since you named him, Zanster only went ouf the groups last time by 1 map if I remember correctly and could have taken one map vs Zest (which was needed) too.
Also as I said, while I personally lean towards making a great lineup, I believe I did that and I even wrote down a list of players who declined
In addition: We paid for I believe 9 Koreans + SpeCial last minute now, which is usually way over budget and is now as well but we wanted to make it special. (no pun intended)

It must be a challenging job for making up the lineup and organizing schedules etc. Thank you guys for that ! Its by far one of the greatest SC2 tournaments of the year for me. Cant wait to see stuff to get started.
What goes to the player selection, I think the heart of the HSC is the COUCH and random interviews/shenanigans all over the bar. If you would consider the level of play as an only criteria to select players, would the tournament be much duller and uninteresting for me and lot of other spectators too. Its always nice to see players more relaxed than in normal tournaments and interacting with fans and other players too. Same goes with commentating the matches (Please get MC back !!). All in all, im very happy for the lineup and wish you for a good and fun tournament once again. Hope I can participate in near future too.

update on how the places in the groups get determined aka tie-breaker rules: 1. map difference (equivalent to map wins because maps won = 2 * diff + 7) 2. Head to Head (mini league if more than 2 players are tied) 3. Bo1 tie breaker match (round robin, if more than 2 players are tied)

Glad to see there isn't some WCS ban/pick order™ going on. Is there some seeding to determine who bans/picks first, or is it randomized?

Cure was rich like TaKe up in dat game it's not a snap judgement though the numbers dont add up protoss just got their BASIC UNIT heavily nerfed dps wise and Terran got a massive buff in terms of liberator timing the zealot buff might help in the ultra lategame and the liberator change might be a late game nerf, but there is a huge dynamic shift in terms of Protoss defending timings. The game was meticulously balanced around such thing (liberator was fine tuned over the years, and the zealot is a core unit) it's a massive shakeup....
But that was not what those two games were about. In g1, Trap was dead long before lib range. In g2, Trap managed to throw away his phoenixes for very little. Cure just played much better in both games.
That said, you could be right with the points you make, but we just haven't seen it yet.
|
Not sure if Stargate openers is the way to go vs T now. They can perhaps work if sufficient economic damage is dealt, but I think fast Collosi with perhaps blink to snipe medivacs would be a better strat.
|
It was ridiculous, zealots are totally useless, and bio crush everything (remember that stim got a buff).
The good point is it will show how bad this patch is, the problem is the whole tournament is just a crash test.

I disagree but I deleted my previous post and will not talk on the matter anymore since im tired of getting banned for "balance whining" (nothing against discucssing this with you)

Two whole games, thank you very much. I mean, how could you possibly expect Protoss to suffer three games of this!?
I hereby demand the Blizzard devs wake up at 3:00 AM and fix this within the next five minutes. Protoss needs buffs against Terran. The evidence is obviously overwhelming and the conclusion is utterly undeniable.

Hey, there's a bug of balance test mod: if a battlecruiser uses Shift to queue several commands which includes Tactical Jump, it is immune to abduct and interference matrix as it was using TJ at that time. Also, mothership's time warp does not decrease beam-type weapon's attack speed, such as void ray, oracle, sentry and enemy mothership.

No Rotti, Reynor is tied with Parting in both map score and h2h. There will need to be a tiebreaker.

He kills all the queens and then does nothing with his 4 banshees?

If you're going thor/libe, gettinf a few hellbats is easy especially vs this comp.

So apparently Denver and Harstem have a tiebreaker too. Don't understand why but I guess more starcraft

The child prodigy Clem is the foreign Terran hope, there has never been never anyone as strong as he is at the age of 7.

Obviously it's early days, but I would guess that spells are super important. Blinding cloud seriously screws with Thors, and microbial shroud can mitigate Liberators. If both spells land, Zerg can just charge in with Corruptors/Lurkers and go to town. Thors are awful at retreating and Abduct/Neural can also work wonders.
Honestly I expect Thor/Lib to fade out as Zergs figure out how to counter with lots of spells. It's Ghost/Lib that should really worry Zergs, since snipe can't be blinded and EMP against Infestor/Viper doesn't need explaining.
In any case, Zerg lategame is definitely going to be harder than spamming ITs, which I think everyone can agree is a good thing.

Summary of day 1 video rolls, I have a tear in my eye. Tear of laughter and the feeling of how much passionate this community is. Tear of joy.
HomeStory Cup is the best.

Hopefully the result of what you describe is that the zerg strategy will only work in bursts. So the zerg burns the mana on spells and can only defeat the terran comp while the spells are active, i.e. swarming in. Thus we avoid the dreaded stalemates that blord/fester/spore produced.

I miss the big guy ;( He was in a core of this tournament also, and even though I enjoy the tourney as always, watching hsc makes me a bid sad in the end of broadcast
On the other side this edition looks awesome! I like such BO2 groupstage round-robin, means any point matters on greater scale. Very competitive! Casters also has great synergy with players during games I expect Mr.Bitter & Rotti to cast some important games also! Ohana

Nice, Cure topping his group. Sad for TIME and HM though.

Unfortunatly I wasn t able to see that many games, but what I ve seen from Time was just not on the same Level we used to see from him. When I think of the insane Bio splits, he did vs Serral at Asus Rog, he just played bad yesterday. I ve just seen Big Gabes games vs Parting, where I can t remember any Big blounders arm, appart from that Moment in Game1, where he let the Adept in his Main and was complete out of Position for the follow up pressur. It defnatly cost him a lot, but can t judge, if that was allready game deciding

Hi, is there any way we can get information regarding the matches that were played off stream? No idea who wins either the first or second map when the result is tied at 1-1 like Harstem vs Denver for example.
Much appreciated!
