In past days, you'd never get so many close 3-2 series (Special, ShoWTime, Neeb), not to mention Neeb vs sOs... Of course going full foreigner in the last game seems to still be a thing though. I think it always has been around the same the gap that is except in the very early Steph & Nani period nah 2014-15 the gap was so giant we saw players like Keen who were trash in korea come over and rek every foreigner. We also saw Snute beat the GSL and SSL champions back to back in 2015. I do think we like to overstate the gap. that was basically the only time a foreigner beat a top korean that year (hence why it was so praised) Remember Polt and Hydra were just crushing WCS but compared to the players in korea they were average at best.

Showtime\Neeb\Seeral\Special did more than decently in this tournament. Foreignland can be proud of its players

OH MY FUCKING GOD I didn't notice they're using the "OH, YEAH" from Motley Crue's "Kickstart my heart" in the jingle. Holy shit that's amazing.

Yeah, but it's 2017 and we still mention that because he hasn't really done anything more notable against Korea. I do agree that the gap is much closer for foreigners now. The WCS Region lock has really done a ton for the foreign scene with players like Neeb, Special, Serral, Showtime, Nerchio, and Elazer compared to Snute and Scarlett maybe being the only real ones that competed at all, and they still dropped out early most the times

I think definitely the gap has become smaller, but that is not because foreigners got better but because the Kespa infrastructure collapsed and Koreans play worse today.
|
I think Neeb is top 5 protoss rn.

Let's be real, Neeb played well and could have won the bo5 today, i didn't watch Major vs Stats but it was a 3-2 as well. That's definitely a very good showing

I tend to think the top foreigners did get better (by training in Korea mostly), the level of play they can show is really impressive sometimes. The point about the Korean scene is of course right though, even if players like INno are still playing out of their minds.

I think it's both. Just looking at the games players like Neeb, Nerchio or Elazer are playing much cleaner than previous top foreigners.

Not nearly this close with this many players. Two years ago Nerchio would have been wrecked early game 4 vs Dark and not go toe to toe multitasking, and he would have thrown game 3 later on in full foreigner style. A foreign performance like this would have been historical a couple years ago, but now it's great, but not entirely unexpected
