Damn, how can you even make anything out in PvP!? Unless there's a significant skill differential (and there isn't here), PvP is a huge crapshoot.

Completely disagree. As dumb as ping pong looks sometimes, the better player wins overwhelmingly often. 'Better' counts as a skill differential does it not? If one player is 'better' enough to reliably defeat the other, then that would qualify as 'significant' in my eyes.

If two players are completely 50-50 and one isn't better than another, should one still win a majority of the time?

Simply that PvP between even players is difficult to predict because disruptors can erase huge chunks of an army in an instant. Being "ahead" means less when one mistake will still lose you the game.

I find it pretty exciting, and I still think the player who wins was the player who played better. Plus, game 2/3 have been pretty decision-oriented and not very disruptor-YOLO-fest.

Being "ahead" means less when one mistake will still lose you the game. Matches between even players do tend to be difficult to predict. And while PvP does have more opportunities for comeback than most match-ups that doesn't make the outcomes any more random. Better players tend also to be better at coming back.
