Alisports, StarLadder and ImbaTV are proud to announce world’s largest StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void tournament with the biggest prize pool in the history of Blizzard’s RTS title. WESG (World Electronic Sports Games) features glorious US$402,000 prize pool for StarCraft 2 Global Grand Finals in December 2016, but this is not the full story of the event: StarCraft 2 fans will be able to enjoy four regional qualifiers with LAN finals during the next few months!

Qualification spots
As our tournament rules are very close to the rules of the Olympic Games, WESG features more than 40 national qualifiers, where the best representatives of each country and region can complete for spots in LAN finals. The regional qualifiers for WESG Global Grand Finals will take place in the following four regions: Asia-Pacific (APAC), Europe & CIS, North & South Americas, Africa & Middle East. The qualification spots to the WESG Global Grand Finals will be distributed among the winners of the regional qualifiers as follows:

China (host) - 1
Asia-Pacific (APAC) - 6
Europe & CIS - 8
North & South Americas - 6
Africa & Middle East - 3
Total - 24

Regional qualifiers
Regional qualifiers in Europe & CIS, North & South America, Africa & Middle East will be held by leading European eSports operator Starladder, while Chinese and Asia-Pacific ones will be held by leading Chinese operator ImbaTV. Please take a look at our brief schedule for the first regional qualifiers of WESG.

More details about regional qualifiers and registration procedure can be found on WESG StarCraft 2 website.

China will be the hosting country of the 2016 WESG Global Grand Finals and the winner of the Chinese national qualifiers will directly qualify for the Global Grand Finals.

So SEA has to play with Koreans while 3 African/Middle Eastern gets 12 thousand dollars?

@ZergJunO: Technically correct. Just as in the african qualifier there are sub-regions within the larger regions. Each region gets a certain amount of spots, so it's not like the top 16 in Asia-Pacific will be all Korean.

This event is organised by Alibaba, a Chinese online sale giant (more than ebay+amazon). There's no doubt that they indeed have a LOT of money, and the players will get paid, but don't expect that they know anything about esports. In their website, they even treated "Starcraft 2" and "Legacy of the Void" as two separate games for some time.

Likely there will be something like 2 spots for Korea, 1 for Australia, 1 for NZ, 1 for Japan etc... in the Asia-Pacific qualifier.
I used to organize tournaments for ESL Italy and referee Go4SC2s, WCSs, and IEMs for ESL SC2.

To be fair that region needs a big influx of cash a lot more than SEA
If all men were created equal there would be no reason to declare it.

Wow, this looks great!! I wonder how the 8 slots for Europe + CIS will be distributed, like 2 for west, north, east and south or something like that?

...and yeah, great to see some action for Africa + ME, sadly neglected regions!

Lots of national/local-regional qualifiers -> EU finals -> TOP 8 gets slots. Much like WCS 2012.
