Chinese tournaments never get the viewership or interest they deserve. Just look at NSL: huge prizepool, top players, barely over 2k viewers on English stream.

To be fair, the production and commentary quality isn't as high as the big Korean and international tournaments.

NSL is pretty poorly advertised, and casted by a community caster at a very bad time for NA viewers. It's sad that the viewership is low but Chinese tournaments aren't really concerned with non-Chinese viewership.

Same reason why WCS Global Finals reserves 8 spots for foreigners, I guess.
I used to organize tournaments for ESL Italy and referee Go4SC2s, WCSs, and IEMs for ESL SC2.

One thing that makes me wonder is whether this was known to the players in the Africa region before the announcement here - because if not, it's not very nice to just give them a week's notice to sign up for the possible biggest thing they have had ever a real chance to compete in, which then includes the prospect of travelling to Dubai etc... I really wish that in general tournaments started announcing themselves on longer notices, even with the risk of having the announcement not that bombastic and all at once.

Is it also clear how many Koreans will be in this? If there are 6 spots for the whole region, it's either 6 Koreans and bad luck for everyone who happens to be in the same region, or less than 6 Koreans. In either case, the potential for Korean-Western confrontation is quite diminished both by the small amount of Koreans and by the presence of players from irrelevant regions. The concept of "world games" simply doesn't work well with how the good players are geographically distributed.
