I don't understand.
each match can be 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2 if I understand the format right because it's "best of 2". So you could make an individual liquibet for every matchup in each grouping and have it be Player A, Player B, or 1-1 Tie as the options if somehow possible.

Or just vote to predict a 2-0, and no one gets points if it goes 1-1.
So like I bet on Bomber > Hush, Bomber wins 2-0 so I get 1 point. I also bet on TY > Cure, but that goes 1-1, so no one gets points for that. It'd be the same as any other Liquibet for a match except you have to invalidate the ties.

I think, that would be tooooo many bets for such small matches. Then I would prefer doing for each group 6 bets, with the names of the players and 2 options: A. Advances B. Doesn't advance.

yea this is my favorite solution
It is not a good solution, because it is not the solution "either or", people could click all 6 players and get 3 points for sure, or if there is a group with 4 favorites (like now TY, Trap, soO, Cure), they could click these 4 and probably get from it 5 points guaranteed. But that would be the easiest way to code the liquibets.

actually given the format it probably wouldn't be that hard. Since it's round robin and you're only playing an opponent on two maps, you could probably eek out some nice wins and have a bunch of 6-4 5-5 4-6 records and manage to win based on ties

Yeah but in a group like this, Hush shouldn't get together an average end record. And even if he did, one would expect some of TY, Cure, Trap, soO, Bomber to finish above average.

lol, the only way this would ever be possible if R1CH all of a sudden decided to drop all his current projects and re-code liquibets.
This is an interesting format with "away" maps counting for more than "home" maps if it comes down to a tiebreaker. The best part of the liiquipedia entry is: "The bottom 3 of each group are eliminated and may qualify through following season's qualifiers", which is presumably a good 6-7 months away.

Even if you put the team players first they can still abuse the format. Give each other a win on their away maps, if they are more important than wins on home maps.
(Not to say this is happening right now obviously, just that it can be done)

The way the format works, it's better (in a selfish way) to go 2-0 against your teammate than to go 1-1 and trade away maps.

It would be useful if they put each player's current win/loss on screen next to their name so that we know how each player is doing and what winning or losing would do for them.

This might have been said before but this format is like the bastard child of the Champions League playoff format and a typical round robin. 2 games per series, first tiebreaker is "away" wins.

Want to add this schedule/format is absolutely awful. Should have done smaller groups so can play back to back. Only have 4 booths and 6 players...Should have done 4 player groups with this game of schedule so it doesn't become silly.

Still all to play for, most people have only played 1 map vs everyone, so still a full 5 games for everyone to go.
Thanks, my vote for you was deserved

By the way, by this win, TY improved his score against the TOP Korean players in 2016 from 1-10 to 2-10. He is getting better!

It's only because of the amount of downtime though. With efficient switching between maps it really shouldn't last more than 8 hours.

there are 30 wins possible, if you have 8, there is no way three other people have also 8, so 8 is pretty sure. Now imagine you had 7 and were fourth, it's not possible for the three above you to be nothing but 7-7-7, because two wins must me beteweet the 5. a 6. place, so you would have to lose a 4-way tie.

I think it's to split up the broadcast and give players time to think of how to adapt
...with the super-strict rules KeSPA has on SC2, I find it quite funny that they had made Trap and Cure play both their games at the start to avoid possible teammates-fixes...

You choose a "home map" and the other guy chooses an "away map". So just pick what you like. And if there's a tie wins on away maps count more. So like football.

Broadcast might not be needed to split up as much this way i don't know. Home and Away map rulings and depending on when they announce them should give players more idea than 1 game they playing invader vs zerg then next king sejong in a TvT xd

So Dusk Towers is good both for and against TY?
It's more like Dusk Towers is a decent map for TvT and TvP but it's also fine for PvT.

Not the best game, but I would really like to highlight how trap kills a LOT of zealots by engaging, letting them charge, pulling back and then sending the disruptor balls into the now naturally clumping zealots. Good to see.
Only 14 games more ... that is sad ;-) I somehow hope for a miracle for Trap ... he is playing tomorrow his code A match against sOs, so it would be nice if he somehow won all his other games today ... which is not that probable :-(

What? He miss controlled and lost 20 marines to move command when harassing in TY base, which was game winning as he killed so many buildings aka production. However his whole 20 supply lead lost after that miss rally / move command. Then he walks marines home??? Instead of using the 8 medivacs he had. It was crazy how he could throw away that position.

He went from being able to make 16 marines 2 tanks and starport units to 10marines 1 tank and 0 air units. He could push out after securing the 4th which he could have done with better control. Put someone else in Bomber position with better TvT after that drop and you see a different outcome 100% of the time.

By the time he arrives at TY's base after having to go through TY's massive siege tank concave TY has everything set up again, and he still had a big part of his army home for defense because of the drop. Breaking the siege would always be costly.

His production is only better until TY rebuilds everything since TY has way more money and bases. And breaking the siege line is expensive.
Hey Durnuu you can update LP to say TY is through. Bomber, soO, Trap and Cure all still have to play against each other (except Cure vs Trap) so they can't all overtake him.

I like the RR format, it's a nice refreshing thing and it gives SSL challenger a unique format that includes a ton of games between some damn good players. It's definitely got a few flaws, but I've been enjoying the games today and it's better than Code A where one bad draw can fuck your life up. Might even be better than GSL groups would've been just because that format is -everywhere- and bad luck is a little more influential.

I agree that heaving different formats is nice but I'd still say the GSL group format is the least flawed just because of the fact that every match matters
Its pretty hard to represent it on Liquipedia, since it doesn't really matter whether they beat a specific opponent 2-0, 1-1. it really only matters how many maps you win/ away maps you win

Yeah, when you cannot advance anymore it's at least questionable whether you'll do your best during the last games possibly giving easier wins to some opponents.

Yes, but bomber took earlier nat and bomber was focusing more on workers. And if's it's the first Bomber vs Cure game you're talking about, cure went banshees whilst bomber tried to economically get ahead while going for a fake aggression/ harass.

Yes, but bomber took earlier nat and bomber was focusing more on workers. And if's it's the first Bomber vs Cure game you're talking about, cure went banshees whilst bomber tried to economically get ahead while going for a fake aggression/ harass.
It's not fake when you waste all your reapers for no damage.

Then the person with more away map wins advances. Which is probably not soO?

yeah but its honestly a waste of the players time especially because its been a long time, do you want a Naniwa vs Nestea repeat?

That's fine, it's more problematic if only one player is already advanced(/eliminated)

This is stupid ... as Cure could end up first (don't think, this could happen :-)

I don't remember it being an all in, and Cure lost against TY bc cure went for banshee hyper aggression whilst TY scouted and got double viking cyclone. So I'd say it kinda adds up.

So does the placement (1st/2nd/3rd) not influence seeding for the Ro16? Because in theory if TY wins Bomber could still overtake Cure, no?

Damn Liquipedia for not tracking home/away scores
that's why LR OPs are OP also they havent announced the group selection have they? so i suppose seeding doesnt matter

But last year in the group selections, didn't they do this weird thing where they seeded the players who came from Challenge into 3 categories or something?
Anyone knows the reason I am not able to watch it?
Neither the youtube nor the twitch streams are loading, I only get the black screen with the infinite white cricle of hatress. Any other stream works fine on Twitch for me.

High and Source are sub-locked on Twitch. Set to medium and refresh the page. Not sure why Youtube isn't working though

Twitch stream has only medium quality for non-subscribers.

That fixed it for me 2. Cant get it to work with TL side or by using the TL links.

They would tie in map score and away maps won, so unless one of them got a warning I think they play a tiebreaker.
Was the Youtube quality always this good? It's blowing my mind right now. Just seems like the bitrate is higher or something, it stays crisp even when the screen is moving fast.

I bet that first game against TY shook Cure up so hard that he asked the organizers to leave out all matches that don't influence the outcome of the group.
I think this format takes too much time. It almost exhausted the players, audience and commentators. Look at TY, even with a bloody 8-0 in hands, he still got that "boring as fuck" expression on his face

I hope his teammates do a good job of cheering Trap up, he's got a huge match tomorrow and it would be sad if he just went on hard tilt and completely bombed out of both leagues within 2 days.
This is a fun format. (Certainly better than a format that says Innovation and Dark have to play each other in one Bo5 to determine Code S status while worse players get in based on matchup lol) Cool that Bomber got in but rip soO
The night may be dark and full of terrans in this group but in group B there's only one possible and the four players already qualified were all Z/P so we can still have a good mix in the main event
Wait, couldn't soO have advanced if he beat both TY and Bomber? soO both and Bomber would've been 5-5 so it would need a tiebreaker or am i misunderstanding this format?

The game against Trap was soO's last "away game". Wins on away maps are the first tie breaker, and after soO lost to Trap, there was no way for him to tie with Bomber anymore since Bomber had 2 away wins and soO only 1.

I hated that. It was dragged out way too much. And keep in mind this isn't even the main tournament yet. I'd prefer if they do the first RR on one day and the 2nd on the next though. Although I have no idea if SPOTV can actually fit that into their schedule now that they do LoL.

I like it because players can prepare more for their matches and you have more variety on each day.

He did say he was tired tho... but he also said that his condition was bad today at the beginning of the day so who knows at this point.

Well there can absolutely be ties. If soO beat Trap, then lost to TY and won against Bomber, soO and Bomber would have been tied in every aspect and would have had to play a tie breaker match.
Honestly I'm a bit surprised so many people find this format confusing. I guess watching enough football ("soccer") makes it a bit easier to understand?

I noticed people mentioning their initial confusion vanishing when they saw the standings in Liquipedia, it's just the long list of matches in the OP people don't understand I think.

I guess the terms "round robin", "home map" and "away map" aren't intuitive enough if you don't get their meaning visualized, but at the same time having a list of 30 matches in the OP is information overflow?

Well, the OP does visualize all those concepts (and it tracks home/away wins unlike LP), but it ends up being too much.

Clusterfucks are fun. SC2 needs to have more fun. The main improvement would be the standings being shown more often on stream, and the casters doing a better job of explaining the tiebreakers and what each match means. (Where's that statistician guy Wolf was talking about? They need a good one...)

I would argue he already had those problems and they just didn't show because he was allowed to play BO1 on Prion Terraces where he could just spam roaches and ravagers infinitely. Less than a week later Cure completely dumpstered him in GSL.
