I feel like protoss has too much accessibility to detection now a days. It made sense to put detection on the stargate back in HotS but I feel like with the difference in economy its not unreasonable for a protoss to have both a robo and a stargate already. It feels like the revelation/phoenix lift combo becomes too easy.
Or maybe my 35% winrate has tilted me into the sun
Have to admit, Stork is certainly not the strongest of Koreans but that was a solid game from puck, pretty much dominated from start to finish. I feel Puck really deserves some credit for his performance this tournament, 2-1 Snute, 2-0 Major, 3-0 Scarlett, lost to eventual champion, and now bringing a solid performance here against Stork.

puCK confirmed for new American Hope. Him and Neeb will bring USA to greatness. Until Hillary wins and bans all men that is.

Puck has been decent for all LotV and this was a good showing. The hardest thing as always will be to be consistent.
It's really interesting that ByuL long distance mines with drones 17 and 18. My understanding is that workers 17 and 18 do provide a slight increase in income so long distance mining is suboptimal.
The foreigner team is so much weaker with the Chinese players, how come TooDming is playing instead of Nerchio, I guess because the tournament is in China. Switch Ai and Toodming for Nerchio and Mlord and I think the series is far closer.

Weren't Harstem and Snute leading the polls at one moment? And there is someone who's no longer a player in the Korean lineup.

When I looked the 4 Chinese players were winning with Snute and Scarlett fairly close behind. Harstem was like 3rd last

Well if we can give 8 slots to foreigners at Blizzcon, then we can give 2 slots to Chinese players at a showmatch in China.
Nicely done by Snute. At least we know that top foreigners can still beat low tier Koreans. Curious about the score vs TY/Dear/Byun and about Byul's lvl

Snute is 0-5 in sets vs TY and Dear. And he's never played ByuN before. Hopefully he'll put up a good fight with the two.
Well so far I think the foreigners are retaining their dignity. I don't think anyone would predict that Snute would have taken down Dear or that Ai would have beaten Byul. On the other hand I feel like Puck needed to win vs Stork and with Snute's level of ZvZ not beating DRG would probably been a bit embarrassing. I don't know how well DRG is playing lately but I feel like he has not won much recently?

IA didn't play badly against Byul, nicely planned, and he might have won the game with his first aggression. but there must be something triggered him to stop the attack.

He's a coach.
but he can set an example to his players and petition kespa to have himself jailed
ps, also, does beating Innovation equal to one free get out of kespa jail card?

Nice done iAsonu ! Nice also to see Harstem and PtitDrogo congratulate him. They obviously have worked the strategies as a team and do not play game by game for money alone as I would have thought.

Idk who it was but that's not true. He lost 2 maps to pre-patch adepts and a close series vs Nerchio, those were the only maps he lost against foreigners. And that was way before people declared him best Korean Terran. And him losing to the best foreign Zerg on the best Zerg map is hardly inexcusable.

I don't get this 5 out of 32 best players thing, did I miss a meme?
It's from the original announcement of IEM Katowice this year, where they boldly proclaimed that one could watch the 32 best Starcraft 2 players in action at the event.
Even funnier, however, was the fact that they later edited it after they got so much shit for claiming they had the 32 best players. What did they edit it to? "Watch the 32 players of Starcraft 2 in the world"

I'd like to see him play a macro game vs Stats. Because Stats both plays his PvP very smart and he's been very much on top of his control in the matchup recently.
Proleague pls, give Dear vs Stats.
I think it's a matter of time for the really smart guys - Zest and sOs mainly - to return to the absolute top of PvP again. Where they were at HotS.
Also, I dunno why people were expecting 24-0 13-5 is currently a 73% win rate, which is probably a bit higher than I expected for mid tier KR vs foreigners

I agree a shutout was completely unrealistic, but TY dropping a map to iA was a complete surprise, and a second map against Snute was also not too likely.
I mean, everyone was expecting TY to 4-0, then he gets roach/ravagered to all hell. I mean it was kinda cheesy both times, but still people expected him to win.
I was wondering if Snute would get a fungal down when I saw the marines running through that, and he did it perfectly, despite the distraction at the 4th.

TY's always had a problem handling aggression. I haven't watched most of the games today, but if I were to suggest something for a zerg playing him I'd tell them to do what soO / Dark did to him in Proleague

His problem is - and I hate to say it because I love the guy - that he's a complete choker. Last year he pretty much had the SSL semis against ByuL won. He was so far ahead on Vaani and still ended up losing that game, then crushed ByuL in game 6 and crumbled in game 7.

Exactly, I'm not a strong fan of cheese, but it serves as an excellent testimony of skill for the defending player, hence you maybe should put it that way to enjoy it a little bit more.

Do foreigner terrans even exist
Jinro and in HOTS Bunny. But only for a short time. But why is that? Tastosis once said T is the mechanically hardest or most demanding (cant remember which one) race. Does it have something to do with that?
It's quite interesting to me that once KeSPA came in, terrans in Korea have dropped significantly in power. TY and INnoVation aside, can you name a single KeSPA terran who you'd class as top tier?
In HotS, the vast majority of KR terrans became INnoVation-clones, except that because they're not inno they were all worse. Compare that to eSF terrans like Maru / TaeJa / Polt / Mvp / MMA etc etc who all tended to have their own styles (and of course were far more competitive).
It's noticeable that loads of foreigner terrans interviewed all quoted INno when they were asked about who they were copying stylistically, and this is where I feel the problem comes in - because all the other players mentioned above play far more cerebral styles. INnoVation plays a simpler game, and wins because he's just that good at steamrollering like a monster. It's an easier style to copy than showing someone a Maru vod and telling them to do that, but it's also a weaker style if you can't play it as well. It's also worth mentioning that INno actually adjusts on the fly quite a bit more than anyone truly gives him credit for, and maybe anyone copying him doesn't have the same capability to read the game.
TLDR: terrans in general look to copy inno rather than actually developing their own style, and rely on brute force that lets them down at the top level

It's actually not "they choose players", it's "players choose maps", that's why there are most zerg players on first 3 maps, and toss and terran players on the last 3 maps.
It would be awesome if more tournaments excluding korean pros could adopt this $500 showmatch format as well. It's extremely interesting to watch and the games just keep coming without a lot of downtime. I'm super happy with this tournament right now

Very one-sided, pretty much ended with a single push coupled with some liberator harassment in the meantime.

Well he still got third in a strong group.
I think objectively speaking, "Stork is very bad" is not true. Depends on your standards I guess.

It was a good group, but not really that strong.
Of course Stork isn't objectively speaking "very bad", he plays on the pro level and it's not like everyone crushes him every time. But the way he played out that game against puCK was bad. The other games, too.
Can't even believe he won that game against Toodming.
If we discuss pro players, obviously we discuss them in context. Obviously Stork is a better player than the vast majority of players who've bought Starcraft 2. Equally though, he's clearly worse than the vast majority of players in Code S right now; I doubt you can argue that he's within the top 40 or so in KR.
"Very bad" is a defensible statement if you're talking about his status as a KR pro.

Well he finished top 24 in Code S, so I think arguing he is top40 is not that hard.
He is one of the weaker Code S level players yes, but calling a Code S level player very bad in any context does not seem right to me.

Well frankly, I think there were a bunch of players in Code A that are better than Stork and either didn't perform or just faced players much stronger than Stork (*cough* Maru vs Zest *cough*), so just the placement doesn't really mean much.
So yeah, he's just contextually very bad. Aka he was very bad in his matches today. Except against Harstem I guess. Well the first half of his rematch vs puCK was also fine.

That I can see, but then we should just say "Stork played very bad today/in this game".
Does not sound disrespectful and is way more precise.
Edit: Also I do not think his placement means he is top 24 in Korea, but I think around top 40 makes sense, even if you put Maru and the others that underperformed or got a hard draw ahead of him
By the way I'm quite amazed at how good Dear is, not just in PvP but also against Zerg. From what I can tell he has won almost all of his PvZs in LotV.
I'd say he's best PvZ atm, best PvT is Zest and best PvP is kinda open (but imo it's between Dear and Stats). Dear's just slightly on the weaker side against Terran so far.
(If anyone cares, IMO best TvT is Maru, best TvP TY; best TvZ is hard to say, I'd say Inno or ByuN)

That's purely based off an eye test on Code A participants, and while you might be able to argue about a few of them, I'd like to see someone try to cut 15 players from the list for Stork to be top 40.
This isn't really Stork-bashing, cause I love him, but he's a coach, not a player. If anything, we should be marveling that he remains in the top 50 or so players in KR even while he's not a pro player

I thought about it, and I couldn't think of 15. On the other hand, 18+13+14 is 45, so cutting 5 is all that's needed and that's doable, although it's not very clear cut who's better between, let's say Stork and Billowy.

We'll see how creative Blizzard gets with their maps for the rest of the year. Depending on the cool factor™, the balance of power could shift.
Yeah, a standard pool would favour KR more for sure. I think foreigners underperformed here compared to what I expected, and we've seen before that series planning against a known opponent is generally something that the top tier KR pros are exceptional at. That said, I think the group format makes a foreigner upset far more likely than the old BO5 playoff style. I expect 1-2 foreigners to make it out, although obviously we've still got a hell of a long way to go to get a better idea of where things stand

These showmatches were a really cool idea, imo. Hopefully, this shows some organizers that there's still an interest in Foreigner vs Korean games. On Twitch alone (dunno how Chinese people watched the tournament, tbh), the showmatches attracted basically the same amount of viewers as the final day of the tournament on average (with the peak being quite a bit lower), which, in my opinion, is a huge accomplishment, considering it's only been show matches.

Also considering it's Easter Sunday and the matches were mostly played in the morning for EU (after the switch from CET to CEST aswell). Honestly, by all accounts the viewer count should have been lower.

The interest in foreigner vs korean had been there forever and will remain until sc2 will have a following. The interest is not in seeing "international" tournaments with an all korean top 8/16

So, when they meet in Blizzcon, two foreigners and two Koreans should have 50% win rates. So what's your point?

the point is that koreans still had a 75% winrate. The point is that stork is a coach and still demolish harstem, the ''champion'' The point is that this was a bo1, without any preparation (which usually vastly favors korean) The point is that 3 of their wins were all ins (2 vs TY, 1 vs DRG) The point is that in a bo5/bo7, koreans will perform way better, because the longer a serie goes, the more it favors the stronger player.

No, those points are all valid. However, none of what you said was conveyed in your original post. The fact that two Koreans and two foreigners have the same winrate doesn't really mean anything. It was what you said in this post that was your meaning
But I must say that all-ins do not take away from wins seeing as Parting and Life both are known for their all ins. sOs is a master at weird early games. And yes, mostly likely the Koreans will win, but the thing is, major detractors of foreign Starcraft and WCS say that foreigners are far below the level of Koreans. But we saw foreigners performing well in multiple close macro games along with Harstem beating Byul in a longer game.
If foreigners, and the not-as-good ones can take games off of Code A and Code S players, then that bodes well for the best of the foreigners going up against mid-high code A players. Whether you like it or not, stork is still a Code S/Code A player. And we saw puck, a-not-the-best player from NA, which is worse than EU, beat him twice,
