S A D N E W S B O Y S
Hello everyone, making this clear Zealot Hockey Tournament is still happening but we are cancelling for December 5th. Nation Wars plans to run over this, and after pleading with them it appears they can neither move times nor days. The goal of the major Zealot Hockey tournament is to raise awareness for the arcade, but also reward the awesome ZH community with a big tournament, and sadly with Apollo, Rotti, Funka & Tod being so god damn attractive to watch, we don't can't accomplish that goal.
This being said, after mucking about in the world of the Blizzard legal team, we have managed to reach a new date that is satisfactory to them, as well as not too far off in the future. December 20th at 10:00 AM PST is when we will host the tournament now. I'm super sorry if this means any of the currently participating teams can no longer play, but we did this with the arcade's best interest at heart.
AND HOPEFULLY FOR THE NON PROS IT MEANS MORE TIME TO PRACTICE :D

..Are you sure you want to have it the sunday before christmas? Many many players are going to be out of town or busy..
I think literally any other weekend would be better...
|
BTTV you're going to lose probably 50%+ of the ZH community participation by moving it to this date... I promise. If you must move it, is their a problem with moving it to December 6th? ZHL is played every sunday, so the community would have no issues adjusting to the 6th. I think you will kill a lot of hype for this tournament by moving it to the Sunday right before Christmas.

THIS. I think putting it on the 20th is a great way to NOT have as many viewers and participants especially as possible. Literally talked to 6 people so far in specific about new date, 3 can't make it, 2 including myself are 50/50, other 2 can. Way too close to Christmas fam
EDIT: I humbly suggest considering Dec.6th; Dec.12th; and Dec.13 as alternatives.
|
Also if you want to make it around the 20th or later, just push it back to the 1st of January or something to where people can recover and come home from the holidays...
|
Can you delete my teams sign up form; it is not allowing me to edit it anymore and I do not think I will be able to come on 20th and even if I can I will prob have to step down from captain and have someone else sign up instead and put me as sub.
|
...The Sunday before Christmas... is going to push away players with Christmas plans. The 6th of December should be considered, as well as the 13th. Many others (including myself) are unable to attend the 20th. Not a smart reschedule if you are trying to attract casual players to take time off away from their families...

For those suggesting new weekend dates, it's not like we jumped to the end of the month without exploring the other dates.
Nation wars > Nation wars > Homestory Cup

sall good cuz i just realized i could prolly get my dad to play again and destroy everyone, zh is essentially based on wisdom + less teams = more chance to play vs op korea pros team #TheDream Thanks for the clarification BTTV ♥

I don't mean to be disrespectful, I just honestly feel like the tournament would have a much better reception if the date were moved to after Christmas (instead of the week of christmas), even if that means playing in January.

By changing the date to a sunday, you'll lose many european teams. Because of the timeshift, games are often at very late times for us, which means that many ppl cant show up as most of the eu guys are busy on monday with school, job, etc.
|
like backfich said , I dont like the idea to play on sunday , because the next day we have to wake up for work or going school, for europe , many players won't play even if they are pros .... I still prefer to play the day 5 :x

If the start time stays the same - 10 AM PST then it is 19:00 CET - same time we usually have our eu league matches. It depends on how many teams there will be. If less than 32 teams then it would take 2.5 hours and 3 hours with less than 64 teams (if we manage to make 1 round in half an hour). But I guess it depends also will each quarter finals and semi finals will be streamed. But even with that whole thing would take 5h hours in worst case. And not like all EU teams will be in final match. Only two. So only 8-10 EU people will need to stay up a bit later after their bed time which apparently is 20:00 and all of those 8-10 people will have that dirty e-sport money so they can quit their jobs anyways.

Rig, always being the most reasonable among us.

Please post an official rule about servers. Latency is really important in Zealot Hockey and so how servers is decided will have a great effect on which teams win.
In my opinion, the best server rule would be to have the bracket randomly assign a home team for each match during each round (essentially a coin flip). The home team gets to pick the server.
Others have suggested to have all games played on the central server, but since this server is located in Chicago which is 3x closer to the east coast than the west coast, it arbitrarily rewards the players close to this region. It would make more sense to use a "coin flip" type method for picking host, since then every team gets an equal chance to get the advantage of picking a server that is closest to them. Then west coast players and european players also have a fair shot at winning the tournament instead of just the midwest and east players.
Whatever is decided for the server rule, it makes sense to post an official rule here so that there are not disputes about it (as there always will be in competitive gaming). Thanks!

Perhaps reschedule Christmas in light of recent events
|
Please remove the team Fruits signup for the time being, thank you
|
As the captain of Fruits I'm asking you to withdraw my team. We will be unable to play with current roster on this new date. I ask again, please rethink this reschedule.

Going to post an official response, then follow it up with my own thoughts (Rifkin): After seeing your distress, and really wanting to make sure the Zealot Hockey community is taken care of, Blizzard has made the official ruling that the date and time will be Saturday December 5th at 10:00 AM PST (Local time: Saturday, Dec 05 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)). Server ruling will default to central, however if team captains agree to a coin toss they are allowed. No teams that have signed up have been removed from the roster, if you do not wish to play, or your team is unable to play, just simply do not show up and after 15 minutes a walk over will be awarded to the other team.
My thoughts: I don't love this ruling for many reasons, but most of which is the BaseTrade Arcade project is meant to help highlight good games and bring attention to the arcade. Regardless of Nation Wars broadcasting over the tournament, chances were this was not going to garner incredible viewership, but doing it this way guarantees it won't. In this rare instance of projects we take on, my concern isn't so much about viewership = $$, but more that viewership = folks we can tell about the arcade for the first time, convince to try for free and perhaps fall in love with the game.
At any rate, we'll see you all this Saturday, GL HF :-)
