I was studying Chemistry, my bachelor thesis was on organic chemistry. More specific, I tried to synthesize a receptor on the basis of two pyrrolo-tetrathiafulvalene bound to a calix[4]arene which was then modified with alkane-thiol chains to immobilize it on gold surfaces.
I say "I tried" because I failed. Had to find similiar reactions and then basically do trial-and-error to find out what works. I think I found some reactions with decent yealds towards the end but I ran out of time. That's okay though, about half of the bachelor thesis in chemistry are about failing because all our profs let us try completely new stuff :D
