This presently stands as a Non-WCS event.
liquipedia: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/World_E-sport_Championships_2014
Ladies and Gentlemen, I know this may sound strange as I have no solid source to confirm it save for a few contacts who have appointed yours truly to do the job, but I will be casting, and administrating the EU and NA qualifiers for the WEC. Teamliquid user and translator Digmouse can confirm this.
The EU invites have already been 90% confirmed, so we will announce all the players that have been green-lighted, and very soon we will be announcing all of the NA invites.
As a reminder, the region and player break-down is as follows: 3 players from China 2 players from Europe 2 players from Korea 1 player from North America.
Everyone who qualifies for this event will be going home with at least 1,600 USD in their pockets.
NA qualifiers now confirmed: August 3rd at 18:00 PDT.
The NA player list is 100% confirmed as below: CatZ Guitarcheese ViBE MajOr MaSa QxC Jonsnow Neeb HuK Minigun Scarlett puCK desrow Suppy Xenocider Hendralisk
Presently here are the confirmed EU invites, we will have a 32-man single-elimination tournament on July 31st 2014 at 16:00 EU Time. All 32 invites are confirmed: Ret Jeysen Nerchio Socke DIMAGA Grubby Snute TLO Bunny Bling Welmu MaNa ToD Harstem Krr uThermal FireCake Majestic Tefel elfi Kas TargA MorroW Bly HasuObs NightEnd Sjaak Heromarine sLivko Lambo MiNiMaTh Miniraser
Please stand by as we confirm the NA list of invites
request to mods: Please change the title of this thread to "WEC 55,000 USD - EU and NA Qualifier invitees"
We are presently accepting stream applications for non-English language streams. So far, we already have a French language stream confirmed.

Invite only qualifiers xD gg

So this is the pseudo-replacement of WCG, right?

This is looking much like 2011 tournament playerlist
Awesome to have tournament like this!

I want to stress that the winners of these qualifiers will have their hotels and plane tickets reserved.

This seems fully legit and not shady at all in any way whatsoever.

$55k tournament just appears? Who sponsors / funds the event? All qualifiers run and cast by 1 person in such a large event?
|
Run and cast by a person who stream from his garage, right? One time, I watched the stream and it was unwatchable, sorry, but since then I have no love for Breaker.

Excuse me for being cynical - but do you have anything that proves it is run by this big broadcasting company? Generally something that it putting $155k into eSports will have some form of marketing behind it

What has Starcraft become when something interesting and possibly amazing shows up that we instantly dismiss it as a scam....

It's not as much Starcraft as the fact that I don't have enough fingers to count the amount of scams that have screwed people over the last few years. We're not dismissing anything, but it is reasonable for there to be more information available about the sponsor/tournament somewhere.

I think this is pretty sick actually.

For what it's worth there's been announcements for a WEC tournament for Hearthstone that are considerably less shady than this one. Proof is always good but I'm at about 95% sure this is real. The fact that the so called "WCG replacement" operates entirely on invites is totally ridiculous to me though (maybe a bigger problem in Hearthstone than SC2, but the point remains)
Edit: A link to the hearthstone announcement can be found here Link

I'll try dig deeper in the day. Also I'll be the admin for the NA qualifier so at least I'll try not screw that one up.

Non-Asians in China are almost revered to as Gods in some ways, and thus powerful advertising tools. I will personally see to the care of all the Non-Chinese players that I can.

WEC (World E-sports Championships) finals will be held in Hangzhou in early September. This is the most legit one, as it's sponsored by stream companies and NetEase (Blizzard's coordinating branch in China), there are actual qualifiers being held in China right now casted by one of the NeoTV guys, and the results are reported by Chinese SC2 sites. Prize pool is $55k.
WCA (World Cyber Arena) will be held in Yinchuan. This is supposed to be the spiritual successor of WCG, as they have the former WCG people on it. It seems to be sponsored by the municipal government and game companies of Yinchuan and will start in October. It's supposed to have $500k as total prize pool for individual player games (not sure about distribution among games). Not much information on it.
WECG (World E-sports Championship Games -_-" I know) is sponsored by mobile game companies. Two games have been announced: SC2 and Hearthstone, with more PC, mobile, and console games to be announced. It will be held in one of the five candidate cities: Chengdu, Chongqing, Huaxicun, Kunshan, Shanghai, which will be revealed at the end of July/beginning of August. They seem to have a lot of ambitious goals. They want to find 4 other cities to partner with to hold tournaments there and the finalists will go to China for the final. Kind of like a global version of Red Bull Battleground. No information on prize pool. I don't know how legit this one will be.

We finally now have all 32 EU invites confirmed.
|
nice. I saw the American invites too. This is basically free money if you qualify, since all 8 players qualified for the offline final will get at least ~$1,600.

If this today won't there be a fair few drop outs due to the fact that quite a few of players are playing Challenger at the same time?
|
Hah, the bracket is pretty funny. Ensuring continuing hardship for terrans ^^
|
oh only eu players in an EU qualifier, i don't remember the last time this happened. anyway gooooo sjaaaaaaak!
|
Ouch, Bunny vs Kas and Heromarine vs Morrow in the first round, all 5 terrans in one quarter of the bracket.
|
So is there an english stream?
|
|
My impacience won once again
|
Ow nice, Breakers Dutch isn't bad at all ^^

What kind of qualifier is this... Half the RO32 is defwin because apparently people weren't even aware they were invited?

Hey admin for the qualifier here, we sent emails to players twice before hand I believe, the majority of the players showed up on time. I'd say it's an unfortunate situation since we have no idea WCS is coming up today before we determine the date. We intended to have this on the 27th but unfortunately that would overlap with Nation Wars II, and putting it into first week of August definitely will run into WCS, this is all what we have right now.

So, it seems like the qualifier stopped all of a sudden. Is something wrong?

From what I can tell, with the info provided by the admins, Breaker, and Hearthstone, this seems legit. Gogo Scarlett!

In the IEM qualifier thread. She's hurtin', she also probably won't play in the Destiny 1 thing tomorrow, she needs to rest for everything else

The destiny I thing isn't tomorrow, it's the fifth, hopefully she'll still play that.
