Is Hyun living in the street? Hungry for food? Perhaps he's suffering from an illness which requires expensive medical treatment?
As far as I'm aware the answer to all these questions is no. (and we should be happy that is the case!).

On top of that, Hyun has made $85,045USD [1] (total earnings minus DreamHack earnings which were transferred to Quantic) from tournaments in the last 2 years.

Assuming this information is correct, I don't see a reason to directly donate money to Hyun instead of the "Red Cross" for example, which happens to do a few fairly important things for people who will probably die a fairly horrible death without their support.

I do see a reason to endlessly remember Qunatic as an organization which has cheated their player[s], watch Hyun's stream because he's an entertaining and successful StarCraft player, and donate a little money to the Red Cross.

Hyun already won a lot of money and I find this kind of seek charity events disgusting when the cause is more than questionable.
Lately I feel like the sc2 community is more immature than ever and get abused by money grabbing whores to cash a maximum using the supposed imminent death of the game as a pretext.

I won't give a pennie to Hyun and in fact I will stop being interested by him in general. This whole affair is putrid.

Hyun won a lot of money which was then kept by his manager.
The players got abused, there's a valid reason for why this exists and we get a tournament out of it we pay for the entertainment and support Hyun where's the problem.

Before I wrote anything I had to check your other posts, it seems you're a destiny fan surely if you want to avoid immaturity you wouldn't be a Destiny fan?

The cause is questionable? Not getting paid the equivalent of 10 months worth of 'work' is questionable?

I'd be pretty pissed off. This is about getting the community together and supporting him if you're his fan. This is how Starcraft 2 and most other games exist, because of the fans. If everyone was like you then there wouldn't be esports.

I don't want to sound like a dick but he made about $40k in 2013 in prize money (not counting Dreamhacks) alone, plus he apparently got about $15k of the money Quantic owed him (salaries + Dreamhack winnings). He's by no means poor. T_T

Still yeah shitty that the whole thing happened and it's awesome that Golden is stepping up to help a fellow progamer.

You are basically reasoning that the money that people will potentially donate to Hyun is money not being used for other charity. This is false. If people want to donate to the Red Cross they probably already are, and this Hyun situation will not stop them from doing that. Showing support for a progamer is a complete separate activity from ordinary charity.

Word up, a million times. Donating to support a player you like who's been screwed over by his manager and donating to the Red Cross are not mutually exclusive.

except for the fact that the person he quoted said he would rather give money to ryun than to the red cross.

I can't speak for him, so this is an awkward argument to make, but that guy isn't saying that he is giving his red cross money to Hyun, and I highly doubt that anyone would make that kind of choice. He is saying that he would rather donate to Hyun, because he has some sort of personal connection to him (through being an eSports fan and possibly liking Hyun specifically). The Red Cross may be doing very important things, but those things are oftentimes very distant from us. For many people, a prerequisite for doing selfless things is being comfortable in your own life before spending resources on others. You can't fault people for getting their own shit together before donating to charity. If spending five bucks once in a while on renting a movie, buying soda or helping a person you like, makes you feel better then you could argue that that feeling of well being would increase the likeliness of you doing more selfless things.

Homeboy still has almost $70k cash in his pocket in the last two years, even if he was shorted 23k. Should we really empty our pockets because of his 'bad accounting'? This sort of stuff happens all the time. Go donate to the Red Cross, bruv.

What about other potential Quantic players who didn't make a dime and had their pay jacked?

I would love to see the other members of quantic payed. and i would love if an event could be made for them too. but right now, you have a player who is loved and adored by the Starcraft 2 community, basically telling us about how we was wrongfully scammed and may have to retire. and I don't know about you, but i don't want a player that i very much like to retire. so you can go and say about how this is stupid and whatever, and thats your choice. but after seeing all these players who i like retire while i can't do jack shit to stop them, i'm going to donate some of my money and watch the stream without ad block. Also, for your information, it's not his "bad accounting." he was payed by them for the first few months, and players like The STC has had successful partnerships with quantic before. how was he supposed to know they would scam him. he let the team claim the dreamhack money so that way he wouldn't be taxed on it. and constantly messaged simon trying to get his money.

Why exactly would Hyun 'have to retire'...? >_>

I honestly don't get why everyone is so quick & eager to show love. I like HyuN as much as the next guy, but none of this makes a shred of sense..

(Z)HyuN posted the following message about his situation with Quantic. (Korean original)
DailyDot reported earlier that Quantic owner Simon Boudreault had dropped off the radar, leaving former players hanging.

Hello, this is HyuN.

I began my contract with Quantic on January 28th and have spent the last year with them. Because the team was in a special situation where it formed from a merger of many teams, it was in an unstable state where one of the owners left as I was playing for the team.

Simon would always buy tickets late, even though you could get them cheaper if you bought them earlier, and he even bought me business class tickets to IEM Shanghai because I had just won DreamHack (even though he had already bought tickets). Even in the case of hotels, there were times I wondered if it was too expensive.

Since when I started to notice these things, Simon was always late to respond to me. It wasn't a big nuisiance for me to have flights booked late, but he would always respond late and would lie about having booked flights when he had not, booking them when the time for the tournament had almost come. So, there was a lot of stress there.

In my final tournament schedule of HSC, Red Bull, and DH Winter, he always said he had booked the flights but in reality it was very tough because they would be booked one day before.

Also, at the time my salary had been delayed for a few months, and I had yet to receive prize money from three tournaments (DH Stockholm, DH Summer, DH Valencia). DreamHack has an invoice system, so the team would receive the money. In the end, IEM was the last time I saw Simon, and I wasn't able to see or chat with him since.

Before IEM, Simon told me he would give me my salary and DreamHack Prize money, and gave me an explaination. But it was always a lie. He always said he had sent the DreamHack prize money, but I heard he had actually used that money to support the LoL team. As for the reason he could not send the money, he said it was because according to Canadian law it was too large an amount to send, and said he would give me the money from the sponsors instead, but that was a lie as well. The sponsors didn't even know about this.

After my last scheduled events he went off the radar, except to occasionally leave a line saying that he would send the money. The money I should have received was 80,000 SEK from DreamHack winnings (about $12,500) and $26,400 (2,200 x 12) in salary, but I only received $2,200 x5, and after that $950 x5, leaving $10,650 I have not received. In total it's about $23,000 I have not received.

Simon has gone off the map, and there is no one to be held responsible. I'm regretting the year I spent taking countless flights, and I'm so stressed out I'm wondering why I spent eight years as a gamer. I don't know what to do, and it's been a while since I've played since I just can't bring myself to. If someone can't help me out, I might have to quit.

If I quit now, then I'm thankful to Simon for letting me finally rest after eight tough years of progaming. I'll never forget you!

I need help, but I don't even know what will help me. This link contains my conversatiosn with Simon. http://imgur.com/xVlXWYe,AneHU6y,Mnf33uA,rBX8lYE,1IF1Oda,jfgUqfR,MflPkwG#0

I'm sorry to all my fans and friends who cheered for me.

You can take his word for it or you can't, but there's his reasoning.
