“Money speaks sense in a language all nations understand.” - Aphra Behn
The quote is meant to seem edgy and cool, for opening a post with a quote. For the past year and a half, we've helped funnel money to the hands of players through awesome Starcraft 2 events. I didn't even know there was a BaseTradeTV wiki page until recently, but after looking at it I realized just how much sweet sweet cash-money we've put up for prizes (A little over $3,000 as of the time of this post).
We've always raised money for a new show match ahead of time, or had a donor/sponsor ask to be involved, but it's always been handled in private. I'd like to think that with our credibility at this point, we can start making this something more public with people trusting we won't be mishandling their contributions, thus the funds will stay reserved until we can pay out at the MONEY PEAK.
There's a full explanation of everything at the bottom of this post, keeping this part near the top for easy access. To donate to the corresponding match just click the image link to be taken directly to paypal. Please be aware paypal charges a small fee if you are using a credit card to donate (Disclaimer: None of the funds gathered here will go towards anything except what they are donated to, and please do not donate if you don't have disposable income in the first place, there are no refunds. That means your $5 donation will sit in it's section until the requirement is met)
**Events will be hosted and cast by members of BaseTradeTV and will try to cater the events to the time zones of the players/teams involved.
Through our experience messaging players, hosting show matches, running and casting events, we've gotten a pretty good "feel" for what is worth what value when it comes to pitting your favourite SC2 players against one another, and have decided to start up a Team Liquid version of a kickstarter for future events. Below I've listed some rough bare minimums for what quality players are typically willing to play for.
THE SHOW MATCHES: Here's an average breakdown of what most players tend to agree is fair for event hosting (most typically having a 75%-25% prize split)
BO3: $50 PRIZE BO5: $50 - $100 BO7+: $100 - $150+
THE TOURNAMENTS: Here's an average breakdown of what most players tend to agree is fair for event hosting (Often, if not always a prize for second place):
OPEN BRACKETS(Any league): Any prize value including/over 50$ OPEN BRACKETS(Masters+): Any prize value including/over $100
THE KING OF THE HILL: This one is a bit fickle, as the value per round will usually denote whether it's "worth" a player's time or not.
4 Rounds x BO3: $10 - $50 per round 4 Rounds x BO5: $50 per round (Final round being worth more than regular rounds)
Now, I'm not saying the above is explicit or particular to any one player, as some of your favourites require a lot more, or a lot less, depending on their perception of the event.

This is amazing!!! Love BasetradeTV <3
|
As always, nerd ballers. Great Idea Peeps
|
Sick nasty! What a great idea guys. I hope that we see some good matches out of this. Since Blizzard has created few avenues of revenue for players, anything that allows money to change hands from spectator to player in exchange for sick games through a trusted middle-man is awesome.
|
Great idea Basetrade! Hope IvD gets into some of them
|
ok , 10 $ for the Clan Wars
|
The $ for the cool-ass-tournament should be raised, donated a bit to get the ball rolling ^_^
|
Sounds sick! KOTH should have a cooler name, though I hope some great players get invited!

In what world is that a 75%-25% split? bo5 33%-64% and bo7 is even 40%-60% the more games a series, the closer it seems to get to 50-50....

I think you misunderstand. The prize for the Bo7 needs to be somewhere between 100-150 $ (typically) with a split of it being 75/25 %

Is there no sort of 'chipin' graphic available that could show how much has been donated thus far?

The Pitchin Widget doesn't really work here, at least from what I was playing with when I wrote the post. If you have any suggestions I'm all ears! :-)

BasetradeTV is sick, cool idea!
|
I hope people push for the clan war, it'd be pretty cool if we could get two teams who don't play each other often :D
|
Cool banner! BTTV for life!
|
This all seems amazing, and mmm this makes me want to do something for BTTV . BTTV is the best TV in the universe. Hosted and casted by amazing people. Keep going on BTTV we all love you <3

Small update:

It's because html/javascript/css are disabled by default in posts, but I think admins can enable them on request (I've seen non-admin users posting stuffs with html before).

How about a BO3/5 where they get 50 per won map?

On January 10 2014 05:07 zicoz wrote: How about a BO3/5 where they get 50 per won map? I think the problem with this is that playing to win individual maps is different than a series, especially a longer series. For example in a Bo7 you might play a risky strategy a game or two even if your chance to win that game might be slightly lower because it can improve your chance to win the series (keep your opponent guessing or force him to mix it up).

YO, i'm a GM protoss here, i'd compete in a showmatch of yours

Update: Both Avilo & Firecake have agreed to play sometime in February. Details are not set up

Hi guys, after Premiere League gets sorted, sometime in February (DATE/TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON ) we're going to host a combination of an open bracket/invite only tournament for $150. To be eligible to play you must participate in one of the last 2 ZOTAC NA cups (18th/25th). You don't have to win, you just have to play. You can sign up here. The ZOTAC NA cup is open to all players of any region, but played on the NA server, this will apply to our tournament as well.
TLDR $150 tournament February Must play at least 1 match in ZOTAC NA to participate

Donated money for a large tourney. I want to see at least Snute, TLO, and Arthur involved. Also a special request for JonnyREcco, who'd probably be up for it.

how do I donate specifically to the casters.

If you'd like to donate specifically to one caster, PM me and I can give you their paypal address. Any donations earned during the duration of a showmatch usually have a link associated which will then be split 50/50 with the casters working the event. (Example: This link is used for both casters)
