He showed more consistency than anybody with 4 finals and 2 ro4 since April. If you combine that with the fact that he is the eSportler that won the most prize money of anybody and his BW legacy, I think you'd have a solid case for calling him the best ever. He would be the first to have succeded in both starcrafts. That's all "ifs" of course. First he has to win. No one would agree on such criteria. You do realize there are some people out there who think BoxeR. I repeat BoxeR is the best ever? Go figure. You will never find people agreeing on such a criteria and his BW legacy has always been overshadowed by Flash and the two other guys. You should have seen the BW forums back then because there would always be a good debate about it. Guess which side I was on back in '08? The Legend Killers. Guess where I stood after Flash's tear post 2010. Flash's. There really is no such thing as absolutes. Sure we talk about bonjwa's back in BW from time to time, but we haven't had one of those in a while because of those four guys and then Flash went on his spree and was declared by the Korean Media as "God." Under the current format and with all the events taking place in today's game. There can never be another Bonjwa. You can win a few tournaments in a row like Dear did, or go back to the Nestea/MVP days where they reigned for more than several months but it is practically impossible with the frequent updates and shifts in the game. It just won't happen, so when people use the word, 'best' you just have to frown upon them.
Of course I agree with you there. There will never be the one. That might be for the better too. But Jaedong is one of the few you can argue for and that's what fans do. If he finishes this year with 2 big wins, I think he is the most succesful starcraft player over both games, at least for now. I have no intention of calling him bonjwa.

Considered over a long period, though, yes, you'd have to think Jaedong was the best. Not necessarily the best SC2 player ever, or even the best SC2 player right now, but the only player to have both an unimpeachable legacy and serious relevance at the absolute top of the current game. I'm not talking about current skill but about their place in the history of the game.

Gee I wonder who said that? Grain of salt folks. In terms or prize money alone, he is. That's actually undebatable. As for success in more abstract terms, I would agree he's not the most successful of all time. At the end of the day in today's day and age, more $$$ for your work typically = more success lol Whoever has the most expensive stuff when you die is the winner, per default.
I think winning major titles, and consistently placing highly in stacked tournaments against good players(this is very important, winning a title against random foreigners is not nearly as impressive as a Ro8 in GSL), are the best criteria for determining who is the best, woefully subjective as it is.
Currently I still think Dear has a claim to that title, but whoever wins blizzcon will have a very strong case. Jaedong would the only player ever with major titles in both games if he wins, which would be a humungous achievement.

He really was incredibly solid against Mvp, even 3-0ing him and just reading Mvp like a book.
But (unfortunately), at this point in time, Maru and Bomber (especially Maru) are definitely more solid than Mvp.

I think if JD does take this championship, he should be considered the best in the world no? I mean, this is what every single pro has been working to for the entire year, this one championship.

Likewise if Bomber, Maru, or sOs take it they should also be considered the best in the world

Life is the wonder child of sc2. Maru hasn't had a first place win since s2. Life kept on winning until he had school again. The only reason life even dropped games against anyone was because he had to study for the college entrance exams. Those things are tough in korea. It will soon be the same for maru. Just look at creator life and leenock. All these youngsters are slumping due to societal pressures from Korean education.

I would love a sOs vs Jaedong final the most. I wouldn't watch a TvT final. Either of the other two possibilities (Jaedong vs Bomber, sOs vs Maru) would be ok.

Exactly. I agree with this, but in Jaedong's case it also means to be the first to dominate in both games, which is a huge achievement I think.

Yeah that would be cool to finally see a brood war legend dominate the SC2 scene.

Maru against Bomber could produce the highest-level TvT in the history of SC2. That's worth watching, no?

I think ForGG vs Bomber would be the highest-level TvT, but maru would be a close 2nd

Why not sOs? Even though he has fallen off since season 1, this is THE premier tournament of SC2, and no matter who wins they should be considered the top player

I think the argument would be that it's still just one tournament, no matter how solid the player pool, and maybe one win and three semifinals should trump two wins, even if one was on a bigger stage.
