They could definitely do better. I hate to say it but fielding Xeno is basically an auto loss. And they could definitely do better than fielding aLive twice.
BTW the results of Hero vs OZ was told live by tod at IEM shanghi so if u were all wondering how old these replays were... they must have been palyed before the IEM event
I wont spoil the result though for those who did not hear

ace match could actually be super mind-gamey... Jaedong can prob beat everybody on TL except HerO, but Oz will probably beat Hero, yet Snute or TLO could conceivably beat Oz...

Jaedong 2-0'd taeja when they played at a dreamhack (I believe it was dreamhack, might have been mlg can't remember which).
While he's not a god he's good and again has beaten Taeja 2-0 when they played so obviously not bad .

Hoping for this for that exact reason. We got sniped in ace twice this season, so if it goes to ace here, I hope we get a favorable match-up. Or just, you know, take care of business.

yeah he 2-0ed Taeja about 3 months ago maybe more back then Taeja was tweeting and saying before that he actually was on a break and not practicing as hard because with his wrists but right now i'd say Taeja is better than Jaedong
What just happened. I saw Jeadong run over ret with lings then I went away for a couple of minutes and then he gets completely outnumbered. Can someone give me a run down of that game? Bad fight it sounds like?

Went Muta/Ling/Bling vs Roach/Hydra/Infestor. First time ive seen him play this way...
Wtf was Jaedong doing there? He saw that Ret had a lot of infestors early, and by the time Jaedong poked in he already had at least 10 fungals worth of energy. The strategy almost seemed to be "I sure hope he doesn't hit a fungal."
If you go into spire vs. a roach/hydra/infestor player, I think you absolutely must transition quickly into either Ultras or swarm hosts before the missile player has both hydras and infestors.

However he is still the king of commercials, and people can have value besides being in the top 8 players of a team.

Machine played in the LANHAMMER tournament and placed top 8, only lost to Demuslim and Suppy too.
He also plays in open bracket tournaments in NA, IPLs, MLGs etc. Usually tries to qualify for things. But he's a nice guy and his stream is cool, I don't imagine he's on a huge contract so no skin off EG's back.

Oh definitely. I know more about Machine than aLive, Revival, and Oz put together, because Machine can eat like a Machine, and bench more than Idra. Plus, I really enjoyed his casting during the last EG Master Cup tournament a while back.

Not hating on the guy, not a fan nor a hater, just general observing/questioning. Did he even try to qualify for WCS s1/2? I just literally haven't seen him do anything in a solid year. Not even strictly talking about results, I haven't seen his name anywhere.

Holy shit people lose, Hyun is super good, phog was online in wcs NA qualifiers, should never count that. Like wow if we really were to judge players after EVERY single loss then there is no such thing as an amazing player in sc2 (innovation has lost to some bad players, flash has as well, every player has).

Yeah he still plays in qualifiers for NA tournaments. If I remember correctly he matched up against Hyun (or maybe Byul or Byun or some four letter word Korean in WCS AM) in the first round of qualifiers, got knocked to lower bracket and beaten by someone on ROOT I think. Maybe State or Puck.

Mr. Bumblebee how do the games work, are they played in any order, so you as a player manager (that's what you are right) can go and tell let's say Ret this is the fourth game of the series we're down 2-1 try to win. Or just each player plays his match and doesn't talk about the result till it's over?

All six matchups are decided before the first game is played. The team managers get the map list, and pick the player to put on each map. Games are often played out of order. Recently, ROOT lost a series 0-4, but Minigun had played in the fifth match and had won. The game did not get streamed and doesn't count though. (He mentioned this on twitter)

They're mostly scheduled out of order to accommodate player's convenience with everything else going on. Often, even if it's a 4-0 match, all 6 matches are played due to this.
However, we do talk about the result as we go and it becomes evident what matches and players we have to rely on, and try to squeeze a key performance out of.

Thanks my fellow Canuck
Huh, I always though Canuck was an offensive name for Canadians. Well, as offensive as a word can be for white happy people anyway.
Hehe, not at all! The Vancouver hockey team is even named the Canucks. It's just slang.
Oh cool. I think it comes from playing war games/watching war movies where US soldiers call Canadian ones Canucks. Assumed it was offensive slang (well not really offensive, but like "Limey" or whatever).
Thanks for clearing it up!
This series is gonna be super close.
Of course these are the 2 giants of Western E-sports, they play for pride right now. We should have had a Incontrol & TLO cast to be true EG vs TL experience

It's a weird word. It's mostly an affectionate slang name. Within Canada it's entirely positive with no derogatory implications. Outside of Canada it's mostly affectionate as well, but there is apparently some uses that are negative.
Which probably creates some weird situations where a non-Canadian will try to use it as an insult, and a Canadian will smile and say "Why yes I am, how did you know?"

It almost felt like snute scouted for the sake of scouting and didn't use the information to his advantage. What's the point of scouting if you aren't going to respond to it.

For example: X plays in KR and Y plays in EU. Do they just play on NA or does one player get an advantage?
My understanding is that there is a home team and an away team, and that alternates from match to match. KR vs EU, I think that would be played on NA, but KR vs NA, or NA vs EU, a player would get an advantage.

Haha I think trying to insult Canadians is pretty hard anyway!
Well that was anticlimatic. But well done Oz, you probably couldn't have beaten Hero in a longer game (or if he had proxied DT or whatever it was he was trying to do).

Oz beat HerO in a best of 5 at IEM Shanghai.
Yeah, I know. I love Oz! I'm supporting EG here anyway just think Hero is the better player and if they were to play 1000 games against each other would probably come out on top.
Hmm usually when other protosses go for the dark templar build, they build a sentry to be safe or their mother ship earlier. Dunno why hero didnt do it. But he probably would have lost anyway.

Damn, Alive fucking read it and still got crushed. That tank positioning play must be so hard to deal with. Guess he just didn't deal with it well enough.
On August 22 2013 13:04 pigmanbear wrote: Why would you choose Snute for your ace o.O or Oz for that matter.
Alive and Taeja have both been fielded twice so they can't be the ace, Oz is really strong and a logical choice for the ace, and Hero doesn't perform too well against Oz (so TL sent out a different player).
On August 22 2013 13:04 pigmanbear wrote: Why would you choose Snute for your ace o.O or Oz for that matter.
EG probably expected HerO for ace and sent Oz, Liquid probably expected EG to expect HerO and sent Snute to hard counter Oz. Liquid won the mindgame, yo.

Wouldn't say Snute hard-counters Oz. Snute is just the second best player after HerO (Taeja couldn't be played).

Snute's ZvP was really good some months ago. But i don't know how he is doing in this mu recently

Nothing against Snute, but Hero was arguably the best player on the entire EG-TL joint team. I can only imagine that Oz must be inside of his head all the time when they practice PvP together.

Yeah he definitely isn't lying about it. The past 10 pvz's I have seen from him, it just looks so bad xD.
Great casting, overall, although I'm wondering how much do Geoff and Sean know about the results prior to the cast? Geoff mentioned that he was involved in the decision as to who to send out for the ace match, which is understandable given his role with the team, but did they both know the overall result? The results of each match?
It's a little anticlimactic if the casters can't prognosticate their thoughts on the match at hand because they already know the results. For instance, did Geoff think Liquid made a great call by bringing out Snute because he knew that Snute won?
looks like this turned out to be a sick bo7! had to tune out after seeing that surprising victory from Ret over the DONG... any recommended games specifically to check out from the vod?

not really all the games were pretty much walkovers

Of course he knew, this game was played a few weeks ago probably. They know how long a series will be depending on how many replays there are to cast, unless they give them fake replays, i guess they might. But in this situation geoff definitely knew beforehand the results.

Phog didn't take a map off him in a macro game. JD was late for a match, so he was put at an 0-1 disadvantage. he then proceeded to 2-0 phog

You must not follow SC2 closely, they've done well with their players having top finishes in multiple tournaments, and finishing fourth at ATC(teamleague).
