When he came onto the scene, nobody respected him because all he did was allin. I will never forget this, I cast a tournament right after the queen patch where he had 8 TvZ's and he literally proxy 2 rax'd in all but 1 match. Then as the metagame shifted toward the end of WoL, he developed into this really solid macro player and was just shitting on Protoss left and right, developing a lot of really solid 2 base timings in the process too. Then enter HotS where he comes out of a bit of a slump to upset nearly everyone in beta tournaments and for a few weeks past release. Incredibly solid macro, OUT FUCKING STANDING decision making, something his teammate MKP has always lacked, and never once did he actually look like he needed to walk across the field and kill his opponent, because he was capable of taking it into the late game. 2 weeks ago he has to face off against the best player in world in a mirror matchup. How does he prepare? Flips the switch again and goes for allin after allin, and trounces his opponent 4-0. The only question left is how he's going to prepare for Rain and what Maru will show up. People can discredit him all they want but until now we haven't had a young player in the scene be able to adapt to so many different styles in order to win, and with damn good execution. All of the previous youngin's honed their own style and were extremely successful with it for lengths of time, then fell off as it ceased to be as useful. Both take an equal amount of skill, but are two various strategies to approaching these Korean based tournaments where you have time to prepare against your opponent in advance. Now that Maru's on his game again, we'll have to see how he fares going forward, or if he'll fizzle out. | ||
