I'm actually surprised at how so few people seem to mention this. This is the entire story of these finals. Of course an extremely slick Terran play from Maru starting from game 4 kinda "helped", but still. Rain is confident, wins two easy games, gets cheesed, loses control, loses everything else. No game was even close. This is why the BW bonjwas were so amazing. They had some actual mental fortitude. Did Mvp ever lose control like this? I can't remember. Game 7 vs Life he did a weird attack but I just think it was a bad call, thinking he teched/droned more and had less units.
mental fortitude is not Mvps achilles heel, that would be his physical condition... and since i learned on TL not to use the "B" word, and because i dont really know its meaning rightfully so, i have yet to see any sc2 player impress me as much as Mvp did, though arguably, maru has still a lot of time and i wish him all the best!

I don't think so -- Mvp seems to have incredible mental toughness (even was specifically mentioned by other players on occasion). It doesn't mean you can't lose, of course.

He plays OSL/GSL/WCS for 3 years O.O Royal Roader for OSL. isn't OSL/GSL/WCS the same thing?? Nope. then why the format is basically the same and the better placed players of the OSL seeded to the next GSL??? they are under the same WCS umbrella, but they are still each allowed to keep the history and traditions of their leagues intact. and that's the best way to do it, really.
ok then, I will try to make an effort to pretend they are different things. It's that I can't really swallow that contradiction

Mr. Chae, apparently. Jungwon Chae @GSL_Chae FYI Maru attended 2010 GSL Open Season 1 and qualified to Ro.64 He is one of the most experienced player in SC II scene.
I wrote that in my preview of Maru. Youngest player. Oldest Veteran. Last player from the first GSL Open to be competing in Code S. losira?
Eliminated. Though since it's a new season it'll depend on his Up & Down group.

Wolf's is. Not sure about Artosis, although he did predict Rain to win. I don't follow Idra.
Also, you could include Incontrol looking for anyone to bet that Maru would win (Congrats, Mr. Bitter on your win) with 2:1 odds in favor of Rain.

jjakji had the luckiest run to the finals of any champion. Not even a question. But he did play amazingly in the finals, so it's all good.
Seed won during the two months stretch Protoss was dominating everyone in Korea. Symbol and Byun both choked hardcore in the quarters/semis and then he beat MC in a PvP.
Sniper won because Blizzard stopped caring about Wings of Liberty and Season 5 of GSL was played in like two weeks, the semis and finals were in Las Vegas, and it was a gigantic mess.
Maru's not a fluke at all. You can complain he was a bit gimmicky, but he's just really good at planning out long, drawn out series. He had a really nice Ro32 and Ro16 draw, got into the Bo5/Bo7 series and was able to do really well. I'd rank his title win over Roro, who won when literally no one cared about Wings anymore and has pretty much fallen off relevant wise since HotS came out.
Sniper is still probably the worst. Perfect storm of fucked up scheduling, a shitty balance that was pushed to the side to focus on a new expansion, and even Rain, probably the best player in the world at that point, deciding MLG Dallas was more important than Code S, so he forfeited.

put it this way: WCS (in its current form) is half a year old. GSL is over two and a half years old, and OSL is like 13 years old. WCS is not going to be able to come in and just erase everything

boring players are loosing irs just simple as that innovation and rain are the most boring players playing only solid macro game and choke when they fail at it . maru is a more complete players than these two joining mvp and mc on the korean player that have actually a mind game brain

It's really the only eSF player I recall having it. Feels like all the other champions have chocked one time or another.
Did Polt choke?

seems I was right all along, all maru had to do to be the best was to not demonstrate his love for cheesing 24/7 and try that macro thing a bit.
