Siege Tanks, Marines, Immortals, Ghosts, Thors, Zerglings and Ultralisks all have 'smart targeting', which isn't really all that smart, but just means that their projectiles (or claws) connect instantly without travel time. Since units check upon shooting whether their target is dead, insta-connect projectiles have an advantages over projectiles with travel time. Furthermore, units will always target the unit with the highest priority. Highest prio units are typically units that can fire back at the attacking unit (so for Tempests, that'd be Marines and not Marauders). It'll then pick the closest unit among those with equal priority. Unit targeting "AI" (it's not really AI, just a very basic set of rules) is rather obvious to predict (and abuse). And it's the same for all units, but projectile speeds affect the outcome. | ||
