I think the faces tell it all. Polt looks calm and stoic, but Creator appears very flustered and confused.

They practice smarter and longer. That's about it.

Ehh, I'm not so sure it's so simple. There is most certainly a cultural element at work in Korean dominance; 'tis not only how they practice but why they practice.

What I said is a general description that does not take into account the infrastructure, community, schedules, personnel, or personal motivation of Korean teams. But all of it serves to create better dedicated practice, which is the key difference between Korean and foreign players. The very best players usually create their own specific schedules and habits which distinguishes them from their peers.

Yes, and my point is that there is a reason that those who benefit from or are able to devote themselves to dedicated practice in the manner you describe are Korean. I mean, you can stop at "it's the practice", but I'm more interested in why Koreans are so able and willing to practice in such a way. Try as they might, foreigners are seemingly unable to recreate it in any way, be it by traveling to Korea or creating a domestic team house. There is more at work here than just practice.

The gaming culture is different. eSports is treated as a legit career in Korea, which people are willing to sacrifice their youth for. Competition is sponsored by major corporations, and broadcast on TV.

Imagine Apple, Microsoft, Boeing, etc. coming in and sponsoring eSports teams in the West, and it being shown regularly on Cable TV, and local heroes who are the talk of the day in high schools and colleges. That's the equivalent of what Korea has.

How the hell does he come back? Absolutely no way to chip economy down in this position in sc2.

The strange thing about Creator being so flustered is he's not dead yet. Sure, he's quite behind, but if Polt engages poorly, Creator can close the gap.

EDIT: Okay, nevermind.

Starcraft 131k > LoL 95k !!

Starcraft is dying

LoL 123k > Starcraft 116k

http://www.twitch.tv/ and LoL game just started.

Watching LoL streams is like watching paint dry. I definitely anticipate a huge influx of players constantly coming to SC for esports.

LoL has 32 million active users, they have plenty of people they can grab through marketing and advertising to watch their streams.

100k viewers is like 0.3% of its playerbase. Though this should tell you how dedicated starcraft fans are relative to the playersize

Haha, I was going to say that too. 32 million players yet they can only pull in 100k to watch MLG, while SC2 only has a few million (4 million?) and we are able to get the same amount.

there's no MLG for lol, just the same championship games they get every single week
there was a showmatch, but it was yesterday

wait there's no MLG for LoL? why not and why is MLG hosting the LCS games then

because riot has an agreement with mlg

but it's just regular LCS games, nothing hype enough to get a million viewers like the spring finals will

1 million viewers is only 3% of its user base, though most of its big tourneys range from 100-300k and the 1 mill concurrent report is very sketchy.

LoL is a massive game atm, though personally I find it a complete waste of time and I got to high plat last season. 1 hour per game burned away in that will most likely be a complete waste of time with trolls and 16y/o BMs, blame war, lots of down time, few actions, and winning/losing have much more to do with your luck than actually being good at the game.

They don't practice equally though. Also Koreans don't have to stream as much as foreigners do because of the infrastructure already in place with the team houses in Korea. So it has a lot to do with the infrastructure allowing them to practice like crazy without worrying about exposure and the willingness to do so.

The infrastructure didnt build itself though. Most ESF Koreans sacrificed salary for a practice house. The problem with the foreign scene is that all the major tournaments are spread out. They need something like the GSL to center their houses around.

No it didn't build itself but the point about space is key. There's no infrastructure outside of Korea to allow players to sacrifice money for practice. Unfortunately I don't really see it happening anytime soon.

There has been a lot of practice houses outside of Korea, the problem is that foreign teams have no fucking clue how to develop talent and run their houses properly. EG house, Millenium house, TLOs Swedish house, Complexity house, Quantic house etc.

i wonder if protoss players realize how powerful void rays are nowdays. i think some kind of chargelot voidray timing with sheild upgrades (boosts both air and ground defence) with a mothership core and templar tech as a followup could be incredibly deadly in almost every matchup. if you are doing some kind of timing push, there is really no reason to get a single stalker cause void rays offers so much more for the buck

Oh yeah. that'll do well against marines.

not a problem with chargelots tanking the front, then voidrays can outrange marines bro

One thing I noticed what Polt changed about his macro is building OCs en masse. He used to bank a lot of minerals, but now he seemed to fix this recently.

That's the craziest thing I noticed ever since he started playing HOTS tournaments. You'd think that moving to the U.S., securing sponsors, and going back to school would make him worse, but his macro is finally on par with his engagement management.

When did the advertisment for live events come, in the ingame sc2 interface?
So that is why the viewer count for this MLG is so high, usually it's not even over 50k at a given time?
