Technically GOM bestows the title of "player of the year" on the champion of the Blizzard Cup.
MMA was GOM's 2011's best player even though Mvp was "best Terran" haha

Lol MKP who made 2 ro8's recently is a complete pushover compared to someone who aside from today, has been awful even though his race was ridiculous

Makes sense!

I don't see why you are arguing still. Everything you've said has been completely wrong.

Nope it hasn't. I don't think MarineKing is the best player of the year, but DRG is far from it too. He's been really bad the last few months and does not deserve that title at all

It should be MVP as he was the only consistent player throughout the year

MVP?? he had one good run through GSL season 2 with a lot of luck and that's all for 2012. Don't know how he can be mentioned in this discussion...

not sure if serious

mvp is:

only terran to win a gsl in 2012

only terran to make a gsl finals in 2012

only player to make 2 separate gsl finals in 2012

#1 GSL points for the second year in a row

won iem defeating the foreigner patchzerg menace ( his greatest achievement )

but seriously It's DRG

with Mvp going 0-4 and DRG making it through, DRG is basically a lock for the player of the year award that TL will probably do like last year. It was really just between those two guys. Maybe in DRG doesn't make it through the up/downs somehow it would still be hard to call since Mvp did beat two solid protoss players to make it back into Code S. Today was just not his day for some reason =/

Leenock can take it with a blizzcup win imo

if it was player of second half of the year I would agree but meh, leenock was in a deep slump up until mlg summer champs. It's hard to call him " player of the year "

If Leenock wins this he would have achieved more this year than DRG, even if it was only during the last half of the year.

1 GSL a piece
1 MLG a piece
DRG has a MLG arena
Leenock has IPL5 which was probably the hardest non code S tournament this year
both have a 2nd place MLG finish
DRG has OSL 2nd place
it'd be close
im probably missing some other things if anyone wants to add on

DRG has 2 second place MLGs

I meant 2nd at the season championships but yes he has a 2nd place arena as well
I forgot Leenock also won the WEM championship as well

Leenock also help lead his team to back to back GSTL championships. That's got to count for a fair bit.

i know they look similar, but gumi did most of the hard work ;D

Gumi took care of the finals themselves, but Leenock had some huge clutch wins to get FXO to the finals (4 kill on prime after being 4-1 down comes to mind).

What? He was also 1 game away from winning a 2nd GSL against Life. When you are #1 in GSL points, you will always get mentioned.

The games are over looks like its time for pointless circular debates about which player we like the most being better than everyone else.

I'm going to say Leenock because he's been the best Zerg across all patches, with the most playstyles, and he has a huge variety of tournament wins: 2 MLG, IPL5, that tournament in China that had mass amounts of top tier Code S players, another 2nd place at MLG (losing only to life who he now has a + score against, along with just about everyone else), and if he wins this one he will have the GSL too. Of course this is all pretty arbitrary since there has been no clear best player this year.

I would say that currently it's undecided, with DRG at the top of the undecided list, if DRG wins Blizzard Cup or gets 2nd to Sniper, seed or something I think he takes it. I think if Leenock wins it he will take it, otherwise it remains undecided.
If MKP crushes through HSC6 and wins, then he ll go up, but I wouldn't call him the best.

Leenock and Parting had better mapscores than DRG and Leenock beat parting in the headsup so Leenock #1

They all get through. DRG in 3rd due to overall map score. PartinG 2nd and Leenock 1st due to H2H (Their overall maps was tie).

only terran blabla means nothing if you look for the most successful player over a year. It's hard to tell, but it has to be something between DRG, Leenock, Parting. I would give DRG the edge. Terran did not have very much success after the queen patch. That's just a fact.

If Leenock wins this, compared to DRG:

Both got a MLG victory
Both got a GSL victory
Both got a MLG 2nd place
Leenock got an WEM victory and DRG got an MLG arena victory (both were basically the same difficult, prizepool etc)
Leenock got an IPL victory whereas DRG got a MLG arena 2nd place, OSL 2nd place

Leenock won Ritmix and DRG won FXOIS5

So they are basically on the same page, however Leenocks team got 2 GSTL victories mainly thanks to him and gumiho + as a star in the corner he dethroned HyuN

So I'd say Leenock achieved more than DRG 2012 IF he wins this. However if DRG wins this he is without a doubt the best player 2012
