how exactly do you figure that? They were very similar early on. Then DRG just rocketed past him around MLG Anaheim.

Anyway, it's pretty much between Leenock and DRG for player of the year imo. Rain, PartinG, and Life have done good too, but DRG and Leenock have done just as well pretty much with a better spread of their achievements which is a mark of more consistency. Going for DRG if Leenock fails to make it far this tournament.

Leenock can take it with a blizzcup win imo

if it was player of second half of the year I would agree but meh, leenock was in a deep slump up until mlg summer champs. It's hard to call him " player of the year "

Then we can say the same arugment for DRG. What has he accomplished for the second half of the year?

If Leenock wins this he would have achieved more this year than DRG, even if it was only during the last half of the year.

1 GSL a piece
1 MLG a piece
DRG has a MLG arena
Leenock has IPL5 which was probably the hardest non code S tournament this year
both have a 2nd place MLG finish
DRG has OSL 2nd place
it'd be close
im probably missing some other things if anyone wants to add on

DRG has 2 second place MLGs

I don't agree, I think DRG would have still achieved more, barely.

If leenock wanted player of the year he shouldn't have thrown away his best chance at a real GSL

Lol MKP who made 2 ro8's recently is a complete pushover compared to someone who aside from today, has been awful even though his race was ridiculous

Makes sense!

I don't see why you are arguing still. Everything you've said has been completely wrong.

Nope it hasn't. I don't think MarineKing is the best player of the year, but DRG is far from it too. He's been really bad the last few months and does not deserve that title at all

It should be MVP as he was the only consistent player throughout the year

Not sure if you're trolling? He (together with DongRaeGu and maybe Leenock) are the top players of this year.

If DRG is a contender for top player of the year, why isn't MKP? He's done better than DRG.

DRG has won a GSL and done a final of OSL more than MKP.

I think it's extremely hard to call any player the best of 2012, theres been so many periods, at the start of the year it was all DRG / MKP, then it was TaeJa, Rain, Life, Leenock, and throughout Mvp also won and placed high, so yeah... not to mention Stephano has been consistent throughout the year aswelll.

Stephano? He didn't win a single tournament with the level of competition as these other guys.

Both NASL3 and LSC2 had pretty tough competition. But yeah, not at the same level.

He Won NASL3, LSC2, placed 3rd at Spring arena 2, 5-6th at the championship/ipl 4, and has been consistent overall, his not at the top but his price money stills says he did pretty damn well.

rofl. Look at the achievements, DRG is definitely not 'far from it'. You can make arguments for other players but DRG has to be on the short list. This year just isn't as clear cut as 2011 when Mvp ran away with it.

We should just give it to Parting. He's a double world champion (3x if you count him as the current holder of the unofficial world championship) and won the most prize money this year. won the biggest prize money tourney in sc2. defeated combatex 2-1

The games are over looks like its time for pointless circular debates about which player we like the most being better than everyone else.

I'm going to say Leenock because he's been the best Zerg across all patches, with the most playstyles, and he has a huge variety of tournament wins: 2 MLG, IPL5, that tournament in China that had mass amounts of top tier Code S players, another 2nd place at MLG (losing only to life who he now has a + score against, along with just about everyone else), and if he wins this one he will have the GSL too. Of course this is all pretty arbitrary since there has been no clear best player this year.

Aye, just disregard my post above... I forgot Parting pulled out a win against the mighty Combatex... Parting gets my vote for sure now.

Stephano had a great year. But it is pretty hard to make a claim to be the best player when you don't play GSL. He would probably need to win 3-4 MLG/DH/IPL plus other smaller tournaments.

How can someone compare results of MKP to DRG? MKP is a total pushover now. And even just compare their peak, DRG is far better.

MVP?? he had one good run through GSL season 2 with a lot of luck and that's all for 2012. Don't know how he can be mentioned in this discussion...
