I'm feeling better missing the one... I wasn't exactly in the modd of seeing Mvp go 1-8...

Don't know how he can be mentioned in this discussion... not sure if serious mvp is: only terran to win a gsl in 2012 only terran to make a gsl finals in 2012 only player to make 2 separate gsl finals in 2012 #1 GSL points for the second year in a row won iem defeating the foreigner patchzerg menace ( his greatest achievement ) but seriously It's DRG only terran blabla means nothing if you look for the most successful player over a year. It's hard to tell, but it has to be something between DRG, Leenock, Parting and Rain. I would give DRG the edge. Terran did not have very much success after the queen patch. That's just a fact.
how in the world is Rain possibly a candidate for player of the year, he didn't start playing official matches until may of this year. Parting I can see since he had good GSL runs early in the year, some decent placements in foreign tournaments and then a chain of lots of success in the 3 WCS tournaments he went to, then WCG and 3 separate all-kills in teamleagues too. It's just hard to give it to Parting because he didn't win a GSL, I don't feel comfortable giving the player of the year title to anyone who didn't win a GSL.
Tasteless already killed the prestige of GSL by saying WCS is the most important tournament, let's not kill it further

Rain didn't even exist in sc2 for the first half of 2012. In terms of consistently being one of the best in the world, you really can't look past Mvp. He won season 2 this year and made it to the finals yet again at the end of the year. How much more consistent does he have to be to gain your approval?

Leenock won Ritmix and DRG won FXOIS5
So they are basically on the same page, however Leenocks team got 2 GSTL victories mainly thanks to him and gumiho + as a star in the corner he dethroned HyuN
So I'd say Leenock achieved more than DRG 2012 IF he wins this. However if DRG wins this he is without a doubt the best player 2012 this is probably the best answer imo

Blizzard Cup does not = Code S, MMA isn't even officially recognized as a 2 time GSL champion on Liquipedia.

Must have missed something:
FXO Invitational: DRG 4-0 MKP (DRG won this tournament)
GSL Season 1 ro16: DRG 2-0 MKP (DRG won this tournament)
Arena Of Legends King of Kongs: DRG 3-1 MKP (DRG won this tournament)

DRG overall looks like he owned MKP this year. In skill and achievements. On a side note, looking at their results has really made me recognize just how hot these two were earlier in the year o_O

Leenock didn't get a GSL victory. Leenock also had 2 MLG wins vs DRGs 1.
To be honest, they're very even. I agree with the sentiment that whoever wins will be seen as the best player of 2012.
But Sniper will totally win this so we have no freaking idea haha.

He is by GOM and since it is GOM's tournament, I would defer to them. Because then you can start to argue about Mvp's WC and Polt's ST wins.

A lot of GSLs are all over the place though. To be fair I think the 3 month GSL is far more prestigious than the 2011 one month GSLs since theres so much more preperation and you can't just be having "a good week". And then the Super Tournament and World championships are also counted as championships right? I mean MVP was going for #5 with 3 Code S plus that.
It's just got to be counted for consistency. And it's not like this tournament is lacking for skill.

What about GSL5 that was shortened and had semi/finals at IPL5. How about the one at Blizzcon? Seasons will be longer next year as well. We can't just start putting asterisks beside every tournament.

Or the first GSL World Championships. Does Mvp not deserve to be called a 4 time GSL champion?

GOM may 'recognize' it as a GSL win, but I feel that they just say that to give weight to the tournament.
I think it's pretty clear to most that a Blizzard cup win doesn't hold a candle to a proper GSL.

However if DRG wins this he is without a doubt the best player 2012 this is probably the best answer imo Blizzard Cup does not = Code S, MMA isn't even officially recognized as a 2 time GSL champion on Liquipedia. He's recognized as a 2 time GSL champion by GOM we should probably fix liquipedia then even still I can't count a 5 day tournament the same as we would a 3 month GSL season.
I agree, it's a completely different thing. GSL is so much more preparation based, this tournament is more about how well these guys are performing in a very short period of time. Doing well in GSL means more to me. Gotta be more consistent to do well.
