Oh yeah! Look forward the next IEM, gonna be huge. Should be a better time zone for the majority of the eSports western world this time as well.
|
Epic stuff! Looking forward to it!
|
I look forward to working with you again, gentlemen.
|
Bumping to make sure people don't miss it : ) Sign-ups I mean.
|
Shouldn't you maybe do this on the 5th to give the players in Vegas a chance to return and participate?
*Oh, I just realized that there are invites. My bad!
|
You better invite fraer into stage three, he only dropped out last time because of Dreamhack Winter, he deserves another shot. Same goes for TitaN.

any idea if there will be NA qualifiers?

On December 04 2012 06:46 desRow wrote: any idea if there will be NA qualifiers?
ESL´s website only states, that "additional qualifiers will be announced soon". But I would bet, that there will be NA-qualifiers; there are ones everytime and it would be against IEM´s policy of giving everyone a chance, if there were none.
|
More IEMs is good Looking forward to another great tournament.

I'm soo bursting with hype for this event! First time going to attend one in person.

Same for me. Always wanted to be part of such an event. Everything was too far away. Now with Poland it is just as I desire. Not that expensive. No long travel distance and over the top of that all a cool location for a tournament like this. Really looking forward!!
|
Oh btw. Link to Katowice ESL overview page is wrong. It is case sensitive and needs to set to katowice instead of Katowice.

I wish for next season the qualifiers will be a bit more open for Stage1 participants other than a 25% chance to make it though.
Other than that, IEM Katowice will be the best IEM to date - easy accessibility from both central and eastern europe and huge player and fanbase.

I believe MaNa will have to play in the Open Bracket due to how Seeding works and the fact that he'll be busy for some of the qualification dates. Ok.. I HOPE he participates in the Open Bracket ^_^

Too many Terrans in this.

From rulebook:4.4 All-Time Ranking The all-time ranking is a more sophisticated ranking used for seeding and qualifying (other than for the World Championship Finals) purposes. It is based on the same point system, but linearly decaying over 18 months. This ranking exists for single participants as well as countries.

They only give points for qualifying in the case of Guangzhou, where the whole tournament was cancelled.

Yes i read what Yello said. "TLO to be careful against Fuzer" isn't exactly "he is definetely 2 raxing you". In my opinion it's better to play the race than the player. You should always be preparde to play against every strategy no matter who you are playing. I think it can lead you in a lot of traps if you heavily rely on knowing the player's playstyle. But who am i to judge.
|

But who am i to judge. Maybe, but it's not like I mean he should go no scout roach drops because Fuzer always goes mech, that'd be overpreparing and you're fucked against everything else, just sending out a drone and scouting for proxies against a player who's known as cheesy since the beta is simply good play and a sign of confidence that you'll beat your opponent without the extra income of the one drone while not being cocky enough to say you'll beat him no matter what he throws at you.
If you watched PartinG's play against foreigners at WCG, he scouted a lot more than usual and searched every edge of his base and natural in the earlygame and all the known proxy robo/stargate spots in the midgame. In the finals, he found Adelscott's proxy stargate and it helped him quite a bit, even though it might have caused him small disadvantages in the other games, but he wasn't surprised by his opponent.
I like smart and safe play a lot better than cockiness.

Kas, really using the Raven to its fullest. Have a dream where maybe someone will pin in units in a choke with them although it appears Ultras really smoke those quick so wouldn't really work.

Dima isn't mining at all now. Don't see him winning, which means Kas moves on.
EDIT: Long-distance mining only for DIMA, I mean.

Brother facing each other. They got the hero/taeja curse for sure.
Vortix always let his brother win the first one, just to proceed to rape him afterwards
|
I hope Dima can make it still through the loser bracket, as Kas makes it through the winner. Would love to see both players in the IEM. They deserve much more respect than they are getting, especially considering how the visa story always fucks both of them up hard, yet they are still determined to play sc2 fulltime.

Socke 2-0 Feast.
Grubby 1-0 LiveZerg
Snute 1-0 Bly
Luci 2-1 VortiX! Woohoo!

I dont understand how this works, there are given 12 seeds in the qualifiers, but in the tournament there are four groups (A,B,C,D) each with 6 slots for players. That is 6 * 4 = 24 players. So who will be the other 12 players? Will they be invited? Is there any ranking for that?

It'll end up being 16 seeds at the end. They're missing the Korean qualifiers right now I think. Then the remaining 8 are from an open bracket at the event.

Well as good as liquipedia is on quicker updates, you should never ever rely on it for tournament rules and stuff (as a participant or manager). Thats what admins are there for.
We may though see a few walkovers for the seeds, thats pretty common yet unfortunate for the viewers.

You do know that players play a lot of tournaments and rely a lot of information they get from liquipedia page and might not remember everything they were told. It would be handy if "we" editors knew rules how they go and could prepare brackets and special mention from rules advance. Just a thought so we don't get any Ret kind of incidents.

For 9th-12th place, seeding for backup spots in case them pesky asians drop out once again on the last minute or someone fails a visa. Which regularly happens for many tournaments.

Stephano won't play Nerchio for a while because he's playing MSI Cup again, watch him in a Bo3 against Scarlett here: http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/EmSc TvEither it starts after they finish or he'll get walkovered, I don't know. Wow. Stephano vs Scarlett and its not in the TL calendar? And not casted in english? Yeap. Millenium...

It's been the same for the past tournaments, not sure why there is so much confusion about it today. It was explained to all players in advance and the matches on our website explain exactly why a match is needed or what a winner qualifies for. The top 4 EU players will be seeded into a seperate group each so they won't meet again in the groupstage. That's why we are playing the winner bracket semis. I gladly supply anyone with these kinds of information. I understand that our qualifiers can be confusing but your initial post sounded like we suddently changed something in our modus which is not the case. Overview of what is still going on: - Players that reach WB Semis = Top Seed for Katowice - Player that reaches LB Final = Top Seed for Katowice - Players that lose in LB R3 = Play for 7th Place
Thanks. Perhaps next time same qualifier phase is coming then you guys could remind early on how players qualify not when its running same time.
Btw your rules pdf doesn't provide information how this system goes. Only bracket shows some random postings (but who really looks those). It would be simple to just add detailed bracket rules and who qualifies/seeds. Fanatic liquipedia editors do read these.
Like most common rule set missing (for some tournament organizers) is how group stage ranking is done etc.

Okay, Stephano got a def loss.

Meh, Nerchio got the walkover.

God damn it...my body was ready...

Stephano now has to play a third map vs Scarlett. If Bly gets the walkover as well, that would be pretty silly. (Stephano would have played 10 Bo3 in all the qualifiers to get a Walkover in the deciding 2 and get nothing)
|
Stephano got completely screwed over by the scheduling clash. Lucifron manages to avoid the clash only because his MSI Pro Cup Group is not being played currently. I am sure if Nerchio had managed to qualify for MSI Pro Cup by beating Lucifron then they both would have got the walkover, right?

Now i have seen grubby vs kas and lucifron vs snute.. And I was surpriced how bad they played.. I see these 4 players as some of the high class foreigners. But there is a _HUGE_ step from these players to the korean code A players..! Well the low skill level they showed made we wonder, if it's just because it's the qualification of some tournament, and they will show their A game later, or if there is allready is like no chance in hell any of these players will take a game from any code A koreans?
|
Snute defeated former GSL champion Life not long ago in IPL5.

indeed snute recently beat life, grubby beat mc, kas beat squirtle or seed i think in iron squid quali, so yeah they can definately beat code a or even code s koreans. Their only problem is that while their peak lvl may be on par their bottom level is a lot lower.
|
finally lost vs Scarlett, now hurry up Stephano
|
He might just be playing ForGG next now instead of playing IEM.
|
nice move from grubby

Kas beat Seed, not Squirtle.

He won't be able to participate to Numericable M-House Cup neither.

not sure if im biased but grubby games always seem more exciting then that of other protoss. even tho I also enjoy watching vortix its good to see grubby winning.

I love you, but I love Snute even more <3 (it's not just because he's norwegian and extremely sexy, but...nevermind.)

Who'd have thought that a European qualifier with such a strong player field would end with two Terrans taking the top spots?

the only two terrans that participated, too. but they are two of the very best european players.

Maybe that small infestor nerf made all the difference.

So Stephano finishes in 8th place? So if anyone drops out, he will be first alternative to be invited in?

Haha I think Grubby actually fedback his own mothership to prevent the neural vortex. Awesome ! xD

So DieStar is qualified for IEM Katowice, as Nerchio already has a spot, right?
|

No, Stephano gets Nerchio's spot from the EU qualis. EPS win gives Nerchio higher seed as he's the host country champion

Any pros stated that they will play in the open bracket? (Apart from the qualified). Any koreans? Does anoyone know? I have already asked Naniwa and he said that he shouldnt go there. So we probably wont see Naniwa there.

Other than that, I don't know, but I assume we'll see the usual Polish pros like Tefel, Paranoid, Diestar, Krolu and maybe Tarson, too. International is always pretty random, but Katowice is central enough that a bunch of good pros should be able to attend without too much trouble.
