Therefore, for a Best of 3: P (2-0) = 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25 P (0-2) = 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25 P (2-1) = 0.5 * 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.125 There are four ways to produce a 2-1 either way (winning first, losing; winning second, losing; winning first, winning, winning second, winning). If one player has already won a game the probabilities change: P (2-0) = 0.5 P (2-1) = 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25 P (1-2) = 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25 P (0-2) = 0 (Already won one) Edit: Note I'm not sure how this works for a longer series.
