Ohhh ... but you forget the visuals on this HUGE unit. You can watch the glowing whiteish-blue sphere of energy grow until it fires and then watch the next one. Good looks are more important than brains these days, arent they? Thats why they care about improving the death animations after all ...

I'm assuming it's supposed to be used in stalemate situations to chip away at the enemy army without having to engage with your entire deathball.
Think Protoss deathball vs the Zerg BL/Infestor deathball. The Tempests are defended by the Protoss ball as they snipe Zerg Broodlords and Infestors and other expensive units.
Or against Terran. The Protoss ball and the Terran bio-ball are posturing around each other but not engaging. The Tempests snipe off vulnerable Ghosts or Medivacs or Vikings while being defended by the Protoss ball. Against a mech ball, sniping individual tanks and Thors adds up over time, and I assume a good player will have nearby anti-air to retreat to if Vikings try to engage.

Tempests are amazing at killing off infestors.
They are frustrating to deal with in super late game a ball of phoenix, voidrays and carriers.

yes, i can understand the tempest is a siege weapon that can poke at broods from long range but... it's dull, dull, dull. my god it's dull. it's so desperately dull and tedious and stuffy and boring and desperately dull!

tempest is not going to be a unit you mass and amove with, it has a specific use.
like 40 marines could kill 15 tempests if they could get under them

What does a unit need to not be dull? I mean, most units are just units that shoot and do damage and that's it, yet I never hear about how boring they are.
