At 16.00 o'clock, TaKe will turn on the stream and present together with NVIDIA and www.ONE.de one of the first StarCraft II Heart of the Swarm Beta tournaments. NVIDIA invited 28 players, to battle each other in the freshly released beta version of HotS!

The Brackets:
NVIDIA HotS Cup Bracket
The tournament will be played in a double-elimination grid-mode and the four high-seeds will advance to the second round by default.
Good games and brilliant tactics should be a standard with such an awesome line-up! Also GoOdy, ClouD and Delphi are at TaKe's place and will be playing live from there.
NVIDIA set up a prize-pool of $3.200 + material prizes to keep the players at a top motivation level!
And for the German guys, NVIDIA and www.ONE.de are offering you a variety of prizes, too – which will be raffled away during the tournament. All informations can be found on www.TaKeTV.net

The cast will be in German and starts Wed, 12th at 16.00 CEST // 10.00 EST // 16.00 PST and will be brought to you by Dennis 'TaKe' Gehlen, Bastian 'SaltTheWound' Brouwers, Christopher 'Okko' Mönig and Sivano 'NarutO' Bovo!
The Stream will start at 14.00 o'clock at Thursday and lasts as long as the tournament lasts.

My thought top seeds were given from previous performance in NVIDIA Cups. Maybe Dimaga just didn't attend for them.

Well this looks way more fun than the pHD torunament (which is still great), but I feel sorry for the non-germans . What a great tournament, lineup and prize pool for a beta tournament, can't wait to watch it all .

This tournament will be great. I really like the casting of Take, Naruto, Salt and Okko. They are always funny and interesting to watch. Also, we get to see HOTS played in a competitive enviroment which is awesome as well.

Second HOTS tournament and has a lot of players such as IdrA that many people want to see that will not be in HD and Painuser's tournament, its a big deal, open the floodgates

German casting isn't very hard to unterstand as an american. every name is english and most of the verbs are english words that have been changed a bit for fitting in german grammer

I see no reason why Take should allow an english stream for his tournament. Obviously, I don´t know his business model and how he gets his ROI but to me, it wouldn´t make any sense to create an english stream.
If there would be an english stream, almost all or all non german-speakers would watch the english stream and his stream on TakeTV would lose viewers which is a bad thing. More viewers means more money through advertising and he can present good viewership numbers to his sponsors.
Also, I do not think that he´s losing viewers because the stream is German because a Tournament like this will have enough viewers and even a lot of non-german speaking people will watch it regardless of the language.

@ the guy above me: Well, why would the sponsors care if the viewer numbers are divided into two different streams? No problem in having the same advertisements in both of them.
I speak german, but I absolutely do not enjoy watching streams in it.

I don't think Take should use an english secondary stream, I'd rather wish that for tournaments like this or S2tW he would invite for example Kaelaris or Hasuobs or Socke to his place. With an english caster take is totally capable of co-casting in english. Even Naruto and Take could do it I bet, look at the Ministry of Win people.

He could let someone stream on his B-Stream with his sponsors and take all (or most) of the advertisement money.

why would you want to hinder your viewership by not casting in english? This player pool can easily pull in 10k+, but not if it isn't casted in english.

The thing is, many german people are just too lazy to listen to English casts. The second point is, some/ many of the sponsors of TakeTV are more Germany-focused. NeedforSeat's main business is in german-speaking countries, XMG just recently opened a UK-store and ROCCAT is also more known in Germany than in the rest of the world (I feel like this is true, don't have any proof).
I know this says Nvidia Cup, but I still think the second reason might be very important.
Also, the casters (NarutO and Salt, I guess) might/are not the best at speaking (!!) English and their casts are MUCH funnier when they can say what they want to say not what only what they know. Everytime I listen to a TaKeTV cast I crack up as they're are just funny and are totally laid back and don't give a fuck. It's just a couple of friends hanging out and talking about a game and not completely serious casting.

Additional Take has a very strong german core community which follows him all the time. Usually Take casts several cups per week. And he can cast/entertain much better in German than in English. Non-German people usually don't know that or they neglect it. So Take makes his most money with his german community and german based sponsors.
Also Take feels uncomfortable casting in english cause in his opinion his english is limited and he cannot express things as in German.

I don't think anyone says that Take must cast in English, but he should let someone else stream and cast it in English. It will not take anything away from the tournament, but open it up to ALOT of additional viewers.
Even though XMG, Roccat and NFS are focused on Germany/german-speeking countries, a tournament like this could help them get better brand recognition in other markets as well. Also the main sponsor of this tournament seems to be NVidia, which is a global brand.
When something like 20 out of the 28 players that are invited are foreigners (foreigners as compared to Germany, not SK) it really is crazy not to have an English stream.

I dont get it, you would get tripple the viewers casting in English on the main stream, only one i could see that hurt would be the very few germans that dont know any english.
you could even allow it to be cast by someone else in english while you stream to those that prefer german.

I'm sorry, it just makes zero sense. Germans will still watch an English cast, but most people probably won't watch a German cast. At least let a third party English caster do it, though I guess that might interfere with sponsoring and stuff.

It isn't announced as an HOTS-tour in the stream list, it is more or less spontaneous, english caster not that famous i think (7000 on german stream is pretty ok imho).

The caster in the BratOK vs Kas wasn't that good to be honest (not sure if he was casting all games or only these).
His voice was monotonous, he missed a couple of battles that were going on because he didn't look at the minimap (he was with the camera at BratOK's rally point looking at what he was producing...). Also, mic volume was quite low.

So Nerchio falls 1-2 to fraer.
Losers bracket is looking more and more interesting.

His voice was monotonous, he missed a couple of battles that were going on because he didn't look at the minimap (he was with the camera at BratOK's rally point looking at what he was producing...). Also, mic volume was quite low.
I quite like his casting, some mistakes here and there but definitly quite a pleasant to listen to

Those rocks only have 500hp. If you destroy them they "collapse" onto the position where you would build the expo at which point they become normal 2000hp destructible rocks. If you build a hatch at the expo and then destroy the rocks the rocks collapse onto the expo dealing 500 damage

What did you expect? HotS is an expansion to WoL, not a new game. If anything I would be happy that old tactics still works, and new units add some flavour, not completely replacing old units.

I like the tournament so far way more then TSL4 and a lot of other events. Maybe because there are new units evolved, but I guess the reason is more simple: Its the players.

The thing about goody is not only that he plays mech but he doesn't seem to be comfortable against zerg with any non harass build. After the queen buff every build goody liked to put pressure got nerfed to the ground and he has an hard time opening against zerg. His playstyle is not mech it's unpredictable harass into mech which kinda sucks lately especially against a safe player like nerchio.

I think they were genuinely showing some potential there. You could see how difficult it was for Dimaga to get rid of them. The only thing he could really make to try and kill them was Corruptors, but with HT and Archon support the Corruptors just melt when they try to engage and then his Brood Lords are sitting ducks.
Usually to kill Brood Lords the Protoss will have to move their ground army into close range, getting stuck on Broodlings and Fungal Growth in the process, they are hard to reach. When there are enough Brood Lords a Vortex is the only real hope because you just aren't getting close to them. The Tempests kind of reversed the situation. White-Ra could just sit there pounding on the Broods and it was up to Dimaga to push through the Storms and Archon AoE.

Yup, they're walkovers. BlinG misunderstood the time, played IPL5 qualifiers and came on an hour late, Bly had trouble installing the HotS client, couldn't get it to work and got WOed as well.

Regarding the first game of Cloud vs Nerchio, Cloud somehow made the mistake of committing to a push even though he expanded beforehand. But those swarmhosts were incredibly efficient against battlehellion + thor, considering, the army that collided were comparable in cost (zerg army was the more expensive one though).

Might be that forgg is a favourite but he would also be one in WoL.
HotS needs some novelty if not in players then at least in the match-ups.

I recently took a look at the current TaKeTV-Stream where they are doing the NVIDIA SC2-Cup right now and I wondered, why XMG is not present. What I have seen was a very very bad copy of XMG called one.de Does anybody know, why TaKe is switching the hardware-partner? Doesn't it seem to be bad advertising when he always says, that XMG is his premium Sponsor and then he promotes another PC-/Laptop-manufacturer?
What do you think about that whole issue? Am I alone with my opinion?

Obviously his contract with XMG allows him to also advertise with other companies and one.de just happens to have a very similar portfolio. Doesn't mean XMG won't sponsor TakeTV in the future.
Furthermore one.de isn't as bad as you make them seem. Their custom-build notebooks (with Clevo barebone) are very comparable to the XMG ones.

I'm sure the game has a lot of problems completely unrelated to BW.
Too bad White-Ra doesn't even try to use mothership-core but supposedly he was slow to make use of warp-gates as well.

The Archons were blocked and couldn't go in.
But not single creep tumor was dropped by destiny, he had very few drones the entire game, was very late on his 4th, wasn't maxed until 17 minutes, and didn't do much except denying white-ra's 4th once.
White-ra had waaay to many drones and to few gateways and a weird army comp. Both seemed really sub-par with their macro in general in that game compared to what they usually play.

anyway, *if* he would have fighted with range and some more tempests that 12 corruptor vortex would have been great. he could have finished lots of broodlords then.
that being i feel like protoss won't get more interesting in HotS, while i already think they're the least interesting race. ^^

I like that stream B gives us a behind the scenes look. It takes so much coordination just to get a game started and apparently forgg had to wait 6 hours to play game 1. And after game 1 forgg says in chat "real bad game", and nerchio responds with a "you mad?" xD Good stuff.

I'm surprised more people don't watch forGG's stream, seems to be the same bunch of fellows that watch n chat. Although he doesn't talk on cam, he does give the odd emote on chat and does sometimes interact. Plus sometimes if you request he does a certain strat on HoTS he will give it a try, e.g. going pure bio against the next terran etc.

Rather disappointing, if the HotS units are so irrelevant as to see no use in tournaments.

I don't think Nerchio does streamcheat, but I can understand that forGG feels like he is cheating. 3 times he played cc first, gas first into reactor hellion. One time he did not. 3 times there was the exact counter, one time Nerchio didn't use it.
Thats just how it goes , but forGG could just start scouting, because he could change his build then.

Doesn't matter how good of a player you are. People will stay cheat for a 100% chance of winning money when they have a chance to lose, small or not. This is increased when they have almost zero chance of getting caught.
Not saying Nerchio cheated, just saying that this is a bad excuse.
Also, ForGG almost always opens up with 1base Hellion/Banshee TvZ intro triple CC.

Ye that's what i meant with "knowledge" and "mindgames", seriously. It's just when someone is hardcountering that often online for years it is suspicious. Nothing more, nothing less. A 5 minute delay wouldn't hurt, it's a lot of money.

Nerchio took out ForGG 2 - 0 in IEM Cologne not too long ago aswell.

That was an unfortunate ending but not unexpected - forgg always had a thing for early aggression and would usually win with it or die trying.
The HotS unit usage was indeed rather low but I still think that it will get better with time - unfortunately in many cases a real revolutionary example will be required.
Hopefully we'll get another tournament when next few patches invalidate everything learned today.

No they did not, they were only joking around, Take said they are always teasing him with that, but he was just joking. They did say that many other people still suspect him though.

That's because nerchio has been suspected ever since he broke into the scene.
Part of that was obviously due to his manner at the time (or lack thereof) which made him an easy suspect.
Every once in a while the suspicions are reinforced by various incidents like the one today and so the story goes on.

I want to thank TakeTV for letting me do casting in English, mTwDimaga for lending a HotS account for casting, the TakeTV crew for all the work they put in to managing a second stream and finally Sheth for giving me a bit of a break by co-casting a series.
I had a blast. I know my style of casting will never please everyone (nothing will). I also definitely do need to work on other aspects of my observing and finding some way to fill space while players sit in their bases and slowly build up armies (my brain and voice are already fried without having done so!).
Anyway, it is what it is - Thanks for tuning in! :D

Nerchio can be found quite often in streamchats of tournaments he plays in and when the people in chat realise that is the "real" Nerchio, he talks in chat as if it's a normal thing to be in there while playing. It's quite funny actually. Maybe it is? I don't know.
But to be honest it's the tournament organizers fault for not putting on enough delay. Yeah i know dishing out commercials is a pain in the ass with delay because they pop up when the game is already running and stuff like that.
Not saying he cheats or whatever, he'll roll the WCS Europe aswell. Strongest mindgame player in my opinion and the fact he plays zerg doesn't hurt either.

In 3rd game when Forgg didnt go CC first he scouted main of Nerchio with scv so he decide to go hatch 15, but of course ppl will say it was blind counter

Yeah wow crazy results. forGG didnt lose a single game before Nerchio. Was it just good play or did Hots make zerg that good for Nerchio?

Not a single new unit was built in the finals. Forgg played greedy Cc first, gas before rax into hellion banshee with no scouting at all and Nerchio smashed him with one-base roach rushes. Worse than most GSL finals.

I didnt watch that much but I really felt people were sticking with WoL units through out the tournament... not enough time to get used to them or useless new units?

It's understandable. When playing for money, players will stick to what is familiar to them. I'm pretty sure that even when HotS is fully released, the first few tournaments will be played with WoL units only and then gradually people will start to integrate the new ones.
Good job, Nerchio. People are too quick to call "cheating", they fail to realize that Nerchio is one of the players who gets better vs somebody the more he plays vs him. By now he knows ForGG's style pretty well and is able to hard counter him.

We did see a 1 base Swarm Host push in ZvP. Otherwise a lot of players stuck to builds they knew in order to win some prizes. I'll list what I can remember being used (including units that were buffed/modified) and my personal analysis on if the unit(s) need tweaking or players need more time. + Show Spoiler +This is ONLY based on my impression of the units as seen in THIS tournament - also I no longer have access to HotS so I can't do any further testing
 Reaper: Used a few times in TvT. The healing aspect makes it useful vs Terrans that are unable to produce counter units quickly. Vs Protoss or Zerg Stalkers, queens and enough lings are able to kill the reapers or at least eliminate the threat of harass after healing.

Battle Hellion: Seems to be a pretty effective unit (buff). However, players were still hesitant to use them (even in situations that would have probably helped - fOrGG getting roach rushed).

Widow Mine: None used. Not sure if this is because of the Armory requirement or the cost efficiency. Probably a little of both.

Warhound: Used mainly in TvT. There were a few games of WH vs WH that felt somewhat gimmicky. The Terrans I saw chose to continue going standard WoL compositions in TvP and TvZ. I would attribute this to the lack of practice/experience with WH after the recent nerf: They should be viable in TvP but were not seen.

 Swarm Host: Probably the most used HotS unit in the tournament. Saw mixed success but strongest in ZvP and in large groups. Hunting observers became an easy task since most Zergs also get overseers and curruptors vs Protoss. Overall the unit looked decent as both Terrans and Protoss have decent counters that are already part of the MUs and Zerg now has even more choices at Lair tech on how to spend gas.

Viper: One made - died instantly. Can't really comment much on a unit that never got used. Zerg's WoL army is pretty effective already and with even more options at Lair, Zergs were delaying Hive tech a little longer.

Ultralisk (burrow charge): Unused. Ultras were made in a few games however because of the timings (tech switch after trading armies) they were basically used to clean up.
Hydralik: Seen in a ZvZ only.

 Mothership Core: Saw use mostly in PvZ. Purify was somewhat useful against early roach aggression, energize was used a few times with oracles and recall was an effective spell also.

Oracle: Used a few times in PvZ (with Phoenix follow up). Entomb has some potential but the design might need to be tweaked. I also think with more time for the meta game to develop the Oracle could be used a little to replace observers (vs SH or Cloak Banshees). This would make sky Protoss more viable if the matchups shift (vs PvT mech etc). + Show Spoiler +Suggested changes? perhaps some tweaking to entomb? otherwise could become a viable support unit.
Tempest: Used twice in PvZ (both by white-ra). Both were split map scenarios vs a passive Zerg opponent (the type of game in WoL where we would see carriers). With the range upgrade (gravity sling, 150/150) they reminded me of BW guardians (with less damage but more range and AA). They did their job of slowly killing Zerg defenses from a distance. With 3/3/3 upgrades and HT storm support corruptors were not able to deal with them (Protoss won, but may have won anyway). The other game (same map, similar map split going into end game etc) gravity sling was not upgraded. Zerg was able to overwhelm the Protoss forces before a mass tempest/ht army was assembled (Zerg won, but may have won anyway).

At least eliminate the upgrade (tempest is expensive enough as is and is pretty weak without the range - you could compare it to siege tanks still having an upgrade but t2 vs t4 is a big change). Another other option would be to add a long range spell and give the tempest some sort of short ranged attack (...Yamato BC? yeah, bring back the carrier with some improvements).
Overall impression? It's going to take a little longer for the meta game to adjust. Honestly, to speed that up someone needs to come up with an OP build that doesn't get nerfed right away to force a change in the way the game is currently played (otherwise we'll see tournaments similar to this for a while even after HotS is released). We've had units/builds go in and out of popularity in WoL and it's really going to take a lot more for HotS changes to do the same. There's also a lot that can and should be done on the design side... Fortunately it is still a beta.
