my problem is OK it's a new esport event that was attached to an otherwise large convention. But if you are going to invite these excellent players, give a great prizepool you have a responsibility to YOURSELF to try and salvage some ROI by advertising on the internet FOR FREE. Literally, asking the players to tweet about it.. making a thread with nice graphics on TL.. and you know what? If you don't know HOW to do this.. shave off 1k$ from your budget and find someone who DOES know how to do it. Literally the easiest part about a tourney is advertising. You can suck at it or be ok at it and some are great but to NOT DO IT AT ALL.. horribly irresponsible.
I want so bad for eSports to get big and go mainstream and reach everyone yadayada but when shit like this goes down it reminds me just how far we have to go.
So basically Campus party takes place in berlin. Eventhough i live in berlin i didnt saw, hear anything from it. Even the Campus party itself was poorly advertised. Then the 10000 tickets you could get are already sold out and I am pretty sure that none of them bought it to watch the esport tournament...
I don´t know what the snute vs strelok seed situation ended up with - we played a game for the seed (edit: hosted and supervised by admins), so I don´t know if it matters that I got 2-0d by Strelok in the groupstages in this tournament or not. Maybe it turns out that playing for the seed was wrong. Admins will have to update on this tomorrow, but: the groupstage results were discounted for a fresh start (for now at least)..
Why wasn't this pushed on TL? It just... disappeared?
Not our responsibility.
Cmon, you really think it didn't get deserved to get featured under community news? I agree the tournament dropped the ball big time in terms of promotion across the board, but I really think any tournament with a 25k prize pool should be featured when it is announced.... Seems unfair that the RB event which isn't even really a competitive tournament is listed, and whenever MLG or any other major announces a commentary line-up, not even tournament details, its featured, but not this type of tournament.
edit: Ok, you featured it, good job guys :D... now Treehugger don't you have a TLpro article to write on Ret attending? :D

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone. I want to know the priorities of this tournament and if the marketer/promoter dropped the ball by missing out on some viewership.

Liquidpedia didn't list that game, so I simply assumed. I'm not better informed than you, don't worry.

Well, it's been added there now at any rate. A few things. First off, this tournament doesn't really make our frontpage news, but community news is an appropriate place for it. Ultimately, if you want your tournament to be covered, you need to badger people about it, because if it's not well known, someone is going to forget, especially if the announcement post was almost a month ago.
I was really shocked when I tuned in and it had 200 viewers.... 500 an hour later then finally the stream got listed. But really poor Kaelaris, he was the only one who tweeted about it and gave his best no matter what. I really hope this gets more attention tomorrow.
Edit: Huge probs to tree.hugger for doing this btw!
To be honest it's just plain stupid to not have a LR thread for a tournament this huge. The thread in the sc2 forums OBVIOUSLY got washed away, because it's not as easily viewable. Even a non-updated-OP LR thread would've been better than what we had before this thread opened (thanks tree.hugger!).
Anyway, gogo SuperNova and good job ForGG so far. Socke failed once more, too bad
edit: also i think there are just a lot of tournaments, else i bet that TL would've written a "Ret to Campus Party" Liquid team news or something else. Ah well, it's definitely not TL's fault that this tournament did have a bad viewercount on day 1.

Ret plays tomorrow. So it's going up tonight. ^^
Some way or another, you would've learned about Day 2.
Also, I fly to MLG tomorrow, I'd be very happy if someone would make a new LR. If not, continue to use this, and I'll keep it updated from my phone.
I'll be adding a survival guide sticky about Campus Party Day 2 up on /r/starcraft tomorrow.
(not sure what we'll do when MLG starts, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it - might end up alternating because I'm not sure there'll be much overlap due to the time zones with this being in EU and MLG being in NA)
A lot of things went wrong with this one Strong players, great prizepool, good caster. I watched the stream a bit and there was 200 people on the stream. Kaelaris did a good job still, but i felt bad for him. I think the reason was that this tournament is held in a convention / lan party / something, i don't even know what, and sc2 tournament is just a small part of it. Nobody knew who's job it was to promote it and so no one did.
Btw. even this thread was originally called "College Party EU" or something. I wasn't sure if it was intentional or not. Let's hope it does better from now on. And gogo Naama!
I don't think many people will even open this thread because "Campus Party EU" isnt't really interesting title and gives the complete wrong idea of what this is. Could you add something like "25k$ prize pool" to it?
edit: and of course i don't mean it's OP's fault or him doing something wrong.
Issues aside from any tournament I participate in, I will always give my best in a cast, no matter what the circumstances.
After being at the venue and seeing how things have been organised, there are tonnes of things that the organisers could have done better without spending a single euro, nevermind things that would only take minimal cost. I'm going to try and compile a list once we're done with the event in order to try and help them out for future events (Technically speaking, ive never planned an event myself but i've helped out with stuff at ESL )
Regardless, ignoring all production quibbles and downtime - That shouldn't detract from the fact that we're going to have some really good games and I hope people will tune in and bare a little of the "rough around the edges" feel. Think of it as a weekly tournament production but with a $25,000 prize pool
Thank you Tree.Hugger for making this post and thank you to anyone who is enjoying the games. I will keep thinking of it as if it were any other big tournament and cast my heart out <3
I should add that, the majority of admining etc is being done by "Game Freaks 4U" over here in Berlin and their team is doing a good job trying to salvage what they can.
Can you try to give us the results of last day in the thread Kaelaris ? So that we can updae liquipedia. Because I know ForGG went 3-0 (someone checked his results on Mill) but I don't know the other results.

i definitely agree a lot of more people would realize how huge the tournament is. starting in 1 hour, hope it's gonna be good.

Is a midgame consisting soley of mass blink stalker with sprinkled immortals real? Or do they only work because Supernova keeps doing overly aggressive openings vs Hasu just playing standard?
Oh and by the way, i got like 10 Mails from Campus Party that this is going on, isn't the first time a Tournament from them is going on and they always have great Price Money.

Yeah weirdest time ever. Not sure what they were trying to accomplish on a Thursday morning/afternoon. The only reason I'm watching this is because it's a rather slow day at work and my boss is very lenient.

When I wrote my message I didn't imply for them that they should have changed their timing or anything. They planned it around some convention and they planned to make it a large tournament (as compared to something like showmatches at PAX) and it seems like it's a pretty large LAN, so they might not be too invested in the streams (it's one dude sitting with some paint graphics, no offense intended). And because it's 7 days we might even be able to catch the finals (if they're weekend). I just meant atm it's pretty understandable why the viewer numbers are so low.
Kaelaris really does an awesome job at this event. Never seen much from him but this event and the last IEM definitely proved that he is up there with the very best casters. Also he seems to be a very sympathetic person.
Wow...Hasu kills expansion. Then kills the main with warp prism and zealots.....that kept him in the game after that huge sacrifice to take out the expansion....
Haha...oh what a close game...So entertaining to watch. Kaelaris doing a great job solo-casting. Really liked him at IEM and he's continuing to do a wonderful job...
FUCK THAT SHIT ! What the hell happened to HasuObs the most passive protoss to ever walk the earth ? Did he take lessons from elfi or what ... Going storm first in a PvT and now doing two 1 base all-in in PvP ...
Just want to say thank you for all the lovely feedback this early on for the casts guys. I think regardless of whats happening around us/me, I can still try bring these GREAT games to you with as much enthusiasm as if it were last week at IEM : ) Hope you enjoy!

You know you're doing something right when you come onto the scene as a caster and get nothing but praise right from the start. I mean, Wolf, Khaldor and even Tastosis were met with mostly critique before the familiarity factor kicked in.

Excellent job is what I'm trying to say
kael got the same shitstorm as every new caster as he started. but he improved alot and got better and better. after hasu+grubby (nothing beats good likeable players casting), bitterdam and obv artosis he is one of the best casters out there

To be fair Apollo is also great and tbh Bitterdam is fun listening to but especially Mr.Bitter is not highlevel caster. He´s cool and I like him but he really lacks of highlevel knowledge.
That beeing said, I´m happy Hasu performs so well today.
never understood why they dont just replay games that have already been played while they take a 8 (2) hour break. unless there's some huge technical difficulty with doing that.
they do have some vods on own3d, but cant even tell which ones are for sc2

MrBitter plays on a higher level than Apollo btw.
Source for that please :D I know that Rotti is a pretty good player, but I've never heard about Mr. Bitter being a better player then a high master random player...
Indeed Kaelaris is a cool caster, good balance between fun stuff / more serious comments & general knowledge of what's happening. Doesn't overhype everything like some do, and doesn't spoil that with a bad pronounciation like some other former ESL caster did ;o Good job bro !

To be fair MrBitter and Apollo are both great casters.
i am really tired of people claiming smth without backing it up.
Apollo is definetely higher ranked at the moment. Apollo has more points on EU than Mr bitter has on US. And EU>US From my own experience i have more than 200 more points on my US account than on EU.

I hope these matches are going to be good. It's SuperNova's fault that he has to play against ForGG, he didn't managed to get #1 in his group. But as a fan of him i hope he'll win vs ForGG, although i like the later one almost as much T_T.

When the only two Koreans meet in quarters, you can almost always be sure someone made it so ... Still there is a loser so it's not as problematic.

If this tournament is like 90% of other tournaments out there, the brackets where designed before the groups where played, and the results designed the brackets, so it's not because "someone made it so" - besides the players of course.

Oh, and BABYKNIGHT FIIGHTIIIIIIIING!
Yeah it appears they just coupled groups A&D and B&C, i.e. #1 of A plays #2 of D, #2 of A plays #1 of D, etc. I assume this was randomly determined before the tournament started, and not after the group phase based on player rankings, like some people who love conspiracies seem to think ^_^
Except you do Group A vs. Group B and Group C vs. Group D like in every other sport ... The only fair way is to draw the tournament like the UEFA does for the C1.

Can you explain why it is better to have A vs. B as opposed to A vs. D? It makes no difference whatsoever, players in different groups have not played each other yet, groups are entirely independent so which groups are coupled for the brackets does not matter.

it doesn't matter as long as the rules are stated beforehand, obviously
To be fair, determining who plays who beforehand (as tournament organizers) does not mean it also has to be announced to the players beforehand. I agree making it known in advance can lead to players wanting to lose in order to play a 'weaker' player in the next round, which of course should not happen.
Is there a good reason for this scheduling? 1 hour pauses between the quarterfinals, seriously? They're all at the same venue, just play the fucking games damnit.
That Stephano vs Brat_OK series is a very famous example of how things can go bad when the players know who is going to play who in the playoffs. Remember though that it was quite a coincidence that it went the way it did. + Show Spoiler +
1. The two strongest players in the group played their match last, meaning that both of the players would know how they are going to place in the group based on the match. 2. Sen's (the opponent both were trying to avoid) group was played before Stephano's and Brat_OK's group which ensured that both Stephano and Brat_OK knew about the results. 3. Sen, the clear favorite in the group, placed second and not first in his group, which let to the situation where a group winner would have to face him and not a group second. 4. Stephano's success was a big surprise to everyone, and he clearly was seeded too low as it happens that in the final results Stephano took the 3rd place and Brat_OK the 4th (which in turn means that neither player actually suffered from the whole incident, and the only victim might be Sen who probably would have played Brat_OK instead of Stephano).

Constant blink stalker agression, nightend was down to 15 probes at a point and then 1base 2 collossus all-in by hasu.

Hasu won that game because he denied scouting. I bet nightend thought hasu already axpanded and thus overproduced probes/didn't have enough army.
Wow. Like 90% of this tournament is waiting. It makes me sad. I missed a series, that's ok. The next is only an hour away!!! oh well. It'll be worth it. at least its not ret v P. come on ret!!

This is one of the worst organized tournaments I've seen with such a big price pool. Why will they show loosers brackets rather than winners bracket? With so much downtime there shold atleast be a possibility to re-send the series we missed (snute vs ret)....

I am not very impressed by snute's infestor control, he really could have saved some infestors there, or killed two SCv lines instead of one. Also burrowing infestors when attacked by banshees.

That was way more intense than it had to be, Snute had a solid lead at least twice in that third game, but decided to throw it away by attacking first into a sieged up second base, and then later throwing hundreds of lings at the planetary without even killing it. Anyway, nice win in the end.

It's interesting to see how people often forget the amount of multitasking required in high level games. It's not like controlling the infestors was the only thing he had to focus on at that time just because the caster focused on it.

not gonna apologize for this. i tried my best
When trying your best leads to beating ForGG, I'd say it's pretty fucking good! :D

I don't know man, when all you really need to focus on is the battle, it's not that hard to micro the infestors at the same time, barring some sort of offensive infestor snipe from the opponent.
Lately i've seen a lot of zergs play suuuper carelessly with their infestors and I just don't understand why. :<
Snute has grown a lot as a player! have been following him for quite a while and he is just a lot better now. one of the best zergs right now. taking regularly games from Koreans, top 50 gm on the Korean server. he is just a really good zerg!

not that i care but i personally haven't been 2 raxed on ohana on months, so you probably shouldn't be making random statements like this one presenting them as some kind of truth
LAN works again, but outgoing connection doesn't work yet. The organizers are working with the ISP on it. Expected time, when it could work again is 5pm CEST

As some people already metioned that the internet is down at campus party, I just want to confirm this infromation.
The official statement of the admins is, that they are trying to solve this issue but they dont know how long it will take. the whole venue has no internet. probably at 17cest the tournament will continue. if i will get more information i will let you know on my stream und hopefully here on teamliquid aswell.
Sure, the number i used was random, but i did not take it out of thin air, i based it on my personal experience and on player streams and tournaments. I should have been more specific, sorry. But that does not change the fact that he dealt with it poorly.
be respectful of the progamers, if you are unsatisfied with the level of the games you can always put some cash aside and host your own invitational with top koreans that actually know how to play or become a progamer yourself and see how easy it is.
i have played korean server and been 2raxed multiple times but this is the first time i've seen a lowground bunker like that. if you instantly figured out how to respond to that low ground bunker as zerg the moment you saw it (a spine maybe?), congratulations, you should become a progamer!
it's not as easy as you think, so stop having these super expectations when it's just some progressive tryhard eu player that you are watching, i'm not a genius, i'm not stephano, so plz chill back and just enjoy what's good in the games instead of qqing about my mistakes. theres enough pressure, and tbh, the StarCraft II.exe is pretty good at pointing out my mistakes too going into finals now wish me luck
everyone loves players interacting with "the community", feeling obliged to answer some random forum "qq" mins before a finals match might be going a bit far imho. gl snute.

Behind a screen and with a drink in hand it's easy. Behind a booth, with money on the line, obviously scared because there's a korean opponent, after flying for hours and with all the tension it is not. Until now you have been great Snute, keep rocking it's not over yet.

I'm fine, thank you :p it did not affect my mentality going into the final match.

^___^ thank you sir - Solo casting is where my roots are from doing a lot in Finland so, it's nice once in a while to do some !
Hasu also says thank you too! <3
why Kaelaris, you´re welcome! say hi to hasu, remember meeting him at IEM Hannover, dind´t mind having his photo taken with us over and over as my fanboy hands kept shaking too much for my shitty mobilephone cam! GLHF to both of you for future events!
