There's still a lot of really good players in this event even in there aren't any EG players. I'm still going to watch and support IPL and root on a lot of the other players, qxc, minigun, suppy, Illusion, ViBe, Nony, NadaViking!

The player list is still looking fucking AWESOME!

We'd be like - "ah, shame huk/idra/whoever didn't get to play, oh well" not "FFS boycott no huk/idra/whatever IPL5 sucks"
IPL5 is going to be great

feels like when it rolls around it would be a lot less appealing without the top NA players and some of the top EU players

There still will be strong NA players at IPL 5. Sheth, Illusion, and Suppy all signed up, and they are some of NA's finest right now. Yes, Canada does get the short end of the stick, but with the tournament scene as saturated as it is, there are bound to be conflicts no matter what weekend it is.

I still hope that IPL allows for an Open Bracket for the main event though. It's nice when premier events have them.

thats the problem theres 1 qualifier and no Open bracket... and there qualifer interferes with 2 WCS's and NASL

But that's the thing - there are no weekends that are free lol. This weekend X is on, next Y is on, the one after is Z... etc

They should try them during the week, TSL qualifiers have mainly been done during the week and have been successful.

it was talked about a lot do it on weekdays have more qualifiers have an open bracket. any of these please...

the problem is that there are many TSL qualifiers, each with 1 spot + more by points.
there is ONE ipl5 qualifier for 8 spots in one go.

if you think about it, for any given single TSL qualifier, there were people that couldn't make it. if TSL only had ONE qualifier like IPL seems to have, there's bound to be people who can't make it. it's just that IPL has chosen to have only one qualifier, hence the scheduling problem.

if they had a weekday qualifier there's still bound to be many who can't make it.

i'm thinking a good idea would make THIS qualifier for 6 spots. then have another american one for 2 spots on a weekday next week maybe for anyone who complains. of course this would be a logistical nightmare, but it would be a good compromise.

It wouldn't be particularly good compromise for the players who finish 6-8 this weekend... but that's just how it is; there are tons of players who can't make any event. There are going to be players who can't make your proposed supplemental qualifier either. Sure maybe IPL should adopt TSL's qualifier system, everyone can learn from their mistakes: remember the outrage when MKP was left out of TSL 3 - *and* there was no Korean/Asian qualifier?

This was announced months ago, IIRC when MLG announced their dates, people noticed that MLG looked to be almost intentionally setting their dates over other events. So do people really expect IPL to subserve themselves to other events?

I don't really know the entire story here, but so far it sounds more like EG's manager knew they couldn't go so didn't tell their players, since only EG players are publicly complaining about the dates...

Hmm, I just thought that one way IPL is able to salvage this is to give 2/8 spots to the WCS Canada winners, and 2/8 spots to the WCS NA winners.

This needs to be brought up again.

IPL should seriously consider awarding the topX spots in the WCS North American Championship direct seeds to IPL5.

there's also another problem with the satellites - they're NOT paid trips.

Why is this paragraph in the opening post then:

"Unfortunately, we are not yet able to announce the date or location of our live event. All we can tell you is that it is coming up soon and these qualifiers were scheduled in a way that ensures that we have time for travel preparations to be made. If for any reason, a player who qualifies in these online qualifiers cannot make the trip to our live event, their registration fee will be refunded and we will use the Regional results to determine who will receive the free travel, hotel, and tournament seed instead."

Satellites are different from Regionals. The regional was already played and I believe Demuslim Sleep got the free trip and hotel reservations.

Edit: Got the winner wrong, it was Sleep, not Demuslim. Thanks CosmicSpiral.

My predictions for the 8 spots based on the bracket: Violet, Suppy, Major, KawaiiRice, Illusion, HwangSin, Golden, and Sheth.

Not everyone can participate in all tournaments that just the way it is. Sorry for the players that are missing but you cant expect for a tourney to move their dates because other tourneys are happening especially when they scheduled first

They are excluding the best players of AN ENTIRE COUNTRY.

If this were during the USA WCS (say it's on a different weekend than MLG), this thread would've exploded with anger.

I am pretty sure that he understands that big names make big viewership for tournaments, but I really think people need to stop thinking that every single tournament is going to cater to them.
