$4,000 to the winner for such a tiny country?! At the end of this tournament somebody we've never heard of is going to have more prize money than the likes of Yonghwa, Maru, fOrGG, illusion, beastyqt, Revival, and Kawaiirice just to name a few (assuming SC2earnings.com is accurate). Apologies if there is a famous progamer from SG that I am overlooking.

Singapore (the country of my birth), is actually a city nation with a population of like 5-6 million I think (around 3 million are Singapore citizens; most of the rest are foreign workers/professionals, I believe). So, numbers wise at least, I think the chance is fairly low to see a bunch of world-class contenders, but you never know

I'm actually pretty excited to see the SEA scene given two reasons: 1. we don't get to see them play much against the rest of the world and 2. large, large part of the world, but little display of their ability sadly ):

Another reason is that the SEA region is dominated by moba players, so much that I'm so annoyed when I heard bunch of kids talking about dota/HoN, despite myself playing it since I was 12....

Singapore has a really strong zerg player in Marcus 'Revenant' Tan Sin Yik. He has been refining his skills over in Korea at the Fnatic team house (Still in Korea at the moment) and has also won prize money in excess of 4000 dollars.

Awesome to see Singapore get such a nice prize pool. I try to think in terms of, "good for them", rather than "poor NL only $800 for first". I think it's important to inject prize money in different countries, even if the players aren't necessarily as known! Wish I could go here to spectate omg (love SG)

I don't know why people are surprised at the prize pool for Singapore. Esports is pretty popular there and it's a rich city-state.

Maybe get your head out of starcraft-centric TL and take a look at the moba scene? They did hold the WCG 2005 Grand Finals, before most people even heard of pro gaming in western countries.

62 players have signed up already! We have only 2 more slots left! Registrations will close on 25th July 2012!

The main thread has also been updated with information regarding the event itself, such as event schedule, broadcast schedule, and other information such as sponsors, directions and the finalised map pool for anyone who is interested in watching the WCS Singapore Stream! Take note that the time mentioned is in GMT+8, which is one hour slower than KST (Korean Standard Time).

The stream itself will only broadcast on Sunday but will feature the top matches of the 16 players who qualify on day 1!
