Tails doing awesome drop harass on Stephano.

Lol no there was no creep on the edge of stephanos base, he should have dropped to that area and then stimmed and he could have focused main hatch down, instead he didnt get anything done. Same time he could have killed all the drones from stephanos 3rd with those hellions but got scared of a couple of roaches and didnt do anything. Bad play.

It was awesome if you consider his skill

An open tournament should work like MLG where the professionals are seeded (based on previous results in qualifiers etc..)
and the diamond league players play off camera for a chance to play with the professionals later on if they win enough games.

The Dreamhack format is stupid, which is even more funny as they had it right last year when they did seed to pro's and let the randoms play their own tournament with the top two (Osho and Sarens in this case) getting a spot in the main tournament.

you can always just watch the tourney from the later stages

So apparently the solution to the terrible things tournaments do question is to not complain and make suggestions (which is why MLG is so much better this year than last, why NASL isn't broadcasting 3 month old games and why GSL isn't best of 1 with a virtually locked group of Code S players) it's to not watch at all.

Great suggestion mate, the scene with go far with you at the helm.

Well i kinda like this setup, it's a opportunity to see some unknowns and everyone (pro's and amateurs) starts equal at the tournament. And over 30k viewers on 2 streams might proof that there are people who do want to watch stages like this, so why not?

Unknowns is fine. It's how we got all sorts of players who are now mainstays in the scene like Stephano himself.

But if you're not high masters you should not be in the main tournament playing on stream.

This. I love watching Ret play but Ret vs a Silver league player? Come on whats the point? I want to see him play at a high level not mass proxy fast expand against a silver league zerg and still win.

then come back in a few hours.... i dont understand posts like this

Because we want to see some good SC2 games? I would have liked to see Haypro vs Daisy over Ret vs Bronze Joe. MLG also has an open bracket for 'unknowns', but they have MarineKing vs MC as their opening match and have high-level games constantly throughout the first day as well as the other days.

Yeah MLG and Dreamhack are the same...... totally different events, totally different setup. again if you want to see high level play come back later when all the pro's are dumped in pools with each other. There aren't much good games to show, so either they pick the best they can or have a lot of downtime..

That's the thing though, there are good games to show. Haypro vs 'Firefly' was broadcast, but Haypro vs Daisy (you know, ex-Prime player who qualified for TSL4 and moved out of Korea a few months ago?) wasn't. What does that tell you? If there actually were no good games to show I would just tune in later, but I'm staying because there are some games I actually want to see, and I may or may not see them...

Well ok, first are you sure it wasn't broadcasted on one of the 7 streams? Second, like i said it's not easy to pick out the good games without a lot of downtime on the official streams.

The amount of people moaning about the quality of the games is incredulous .. This is round 1 of the tournament, in any sport in an open tournament you'll see below-par games

The funny thing is everyone knows that the first groupstage wont deliver the best games and still they tune in. It's like going to McDonalds expecting good food while you know it sucks.

Irony is I'm eating a McDonalds as I type >_> It's pretty good ^_^

But really I tune in cos I like to see the big upsets or give them a run for their money.. The Morrow game earlier and Mana game being played atm good examples

oh yeah, and extended series sucks too.

All those things are crappy about MLG sure, but at MLG I see back to back great games from great players Friday to Sunday.

I don't see MC beating all day 1 to the point where the finals have to be on a monday so most people can't watch because they wasted an entire day of games letting random low leaguers waste hours of stream time with their once in a lifetime moment of letting Stephano win a 14 minute best of three against them.

Sweden is one of the leading e-sport nations for a reason, and dreamhack and it's tournament system has a part in that. DH has been around for over 15 years and wont (I hope) change becuse they decide to stream it now. It's not an ordinary tournament like mlg, it's the worlds largest lan party with everything that comes with it. That match with Stephano might be the thing that tip the guy over the edge and he decides that he want to become a pro gamer as well, 2 years later he wins code S. It's a exaggeration for sure but it's one of the ways we "breed" esport players here. They only thing I have against it now is they they should be able to schedule so it's always a decent match on the streams and let the randoms play the pros off-stream.

FYI: Supplies on the Stephano/Tails game are the wrong way around. It seems that nobody knows how those things work.

edit: to be constructive and less snarky, I believe it's dependant on the X co-ordinate of the player's spawn position. That is, the player whose spawn point is furthest to the west appears on the left.

STOP. WHINING. (someone warn the guy)

This format while not so interesint, gives motive to random diamond/master scrubs to play more. If you know you might twice a year face QXC, Stephano, Mana, on a tournament (and have your 5 minutes of fame) this gives you a reason to practice for. In that way the talented players may work hard enough to be spotted and taken into a team, where they might be full time gamers.

This format does what's best to bridge the gap between the semi-hardcore ladderer and the hardcore ladderer/semi-pro, good enough to be taken into a team. That's where I think the european scene gets it's steam, that narrower gap. So, in a sense, what you're saying is "hurting esports TM". Close the streams and watch from tomorrow on.

Edit: At the moment Tails puts up a "decent fight" vs Stephano in the "totally imbalanced" TvZ match-up. This may give that kid motive to train hard and become someone in the SCII world
