yeah but i like it ... cause the local "noob" players get to play ... and i think thats important ^_^.. Completely agree. Thats is an important link between the playerbase and the pro's. It might not be interesting to watch some some john doe get blown up by a pro, but it is important. No it's not at all. Guys like Slivko, Bly and other lesser known players getting a chance is important. Random diamond league scrub has no place whatsoever playing at Dreamhack. Dude how can you say that? Do you even know what an open tournament means? An open tournament should work like MLG where the professionals are seeded (based on previous results in qualifiers etc..) and the diamond league players play off camera for a chance to play with the professionals later on if they win enough games. The Dreamhack format is stupid, which is even more funny as they had it right last year when they did seed to pro's and let the randoms play their own tournament with the top two (Osho and Sarens in this case) getting a spot in the main tournament. you can always just watch the tourney from the later stages So apparently the solution to the terrible things tournaments do question is to not complain and make suggestions (which is why MLG is so much better this year than last, why NASL isn't broadcasting 3 month old games and why GSL isn't best of 1 with a virtually locked group of Code S players) it's to not watch at all. Great suggestion mate, the scene with go far with you at the helm. Well i kinda like this setup, it's a opportunity to see some unknowns and everyone (pro's and amateurs) starts equal at the tournament. And over 30k viewers on 2 streams might proof that there are people who do want to watch stages like this, so why not? Unknowns is fine. It's how we got all sorts of players who are now mainstays in the scene like Stephano himself. But if you're not high masters you should not be in the main tournament playing on stream. This. I love watching Ret play but Ret vs a Silver league player? Come on whats the point? I want to see him play at a high level not mass proxy fast expand against a silver league zerg and still win.
then come back in a few hours.... i dont understand posts like this

Chance to do what exactly? If you're good enough to beat Stephano you're already in masters league.
There is not some diamond league bonjwa in this tournament about to break out into the big time. Sc2 doesn't work like that.

16 groups played out in round 1 so far, only major surprise so far is Dimaga only managing 2nd in his group - Still qualifies but you expect the pros to top their respective groups if its full of rookies.
|
People that are complaining about the format need to actually LEARN the format. It makes total sense if you realise that Stockholm, Summer, Valencia and Bucharest Dreamhacks are all qualifiers for DH Winter - the real big top level, top prize money tournament.
|
I think they should cast some more games of amateurs playing each other. At least the game will be closer than this. The pros will have their screen time later.
|
i can't believe there's people that don't think the MLG format is the worst out of all the big tournaments. mind you, i didn't say anything about MLG's production value, quality of players/casters etc which are all amazing, but between extended series, bo3 all the way through, rather unimportant pool play, extended series, way too big of an advantage for more accomplished players, double elimination and extended series i think it's clear that their format is the worst.
oh yeah, and extended series sucks too.

Only 5 maps? Finally they accepted the feedback! Great!

If they want the pros vs. joes aspect they should do the Swiss system, on the other hand some people have trouble to understand double elimination...

Dude, MLG is not an Open tournament. Besides, I like the DreamHack format as it rewards skill and not past achievements/already having a big name. MLG has an open tournament. It doesn't waste an entire day or the tournament making Stephano play gold league players on stream. MLG is a mainly closed tournament into which 4 players qualifies only to play at a disadvantage to the invited players.
The 20 invited "professionals" aren't just seeded, they can come no lower than 28th, always gain ranking points and have little risk of dropping out. Formats like this doesn't allow for up-and-coming players to gain foothold and will eventually lead to a stagnating scene... ....oh wait... that's already happened
MLG did the same with Halo and look how that turned out.

What makes it a bad idea then?

I would have liked to see Haypro vs Daisy over Ret vs Bronze Joe. MLG also has an open bracket for 'unknowns', but they have MarineKing vs MC as their opening match and have high-level games constantly throughout the first day as well as the other days.

So don't watch until later on tonight/tomorrow. Simple.

Are some of these players really below GM level? I have in a post that one player was silver only. Was that just speculation are is it really that those players come from any league?

They do it because they just want to complain. Just think about it, they are watching something they don't like like which they have not paid for or don't have to watch. They knowing about it beforehand won't change a damn thing.

All those things are crappy about MLG sure, but at MLG I see back to back great games from great players Friday to Sunday.
I don't see MC beating all day 1 to the point where the finals have to be on a monday so most people can't watch because they wasted an entire day of games letting random low leaguers waste hours of stream time with their once in a lifetime moment of letting Stephano win a 14 minute best of three against them.
