No Destiny= not watching.
Also sent them an email telling them they are immature for continuing to follow this witch hunt.

May be more likely to watch this now if timezone allows.

The constant use of "mature" language from Mr. Bonell on his own broadcast or guest appearances on other streams was not making this look to be a an enjoyable viewing experience.

Those are streams this is a legit event I am sure he would be professional and respectful if they asked him to.

Yes, it is very immature to make sure there will be no racial slurs on their broadcast.

Are you serious?

Destiny has casted some smaller events in the past with great success and always good feedback from viewers. Very professional casting, and also awesome humour and casts well with just about any other type of caster.

You're correct that calling gigabyte's decision immature was flawed. I would call it misinformed without hesitation though.

I will not be watching this tournament because of your decision not to let Destiny cast. GL & HF.

I will not be watching this tourney due to your shortsighted decision to remove Destiny as caster. He is a genuinely entertaining and appealing caster, partly due to some of his edgier or sarcastic comedy, but mostly due to his deep game knowledge and ability to give insight on what a player is thinking.

A few loud complainers don't represent the whole community's opinion on this. The fact that Destiny has made controversial statements on his own personal stream should have no bearing on the expectation that he can deliver an exceptional cast with professionalism and respectful language. You can argue that it comes down to not wanting someone of his 'reputation' associated with you, but frankly, he represents thousands upon thousands of nerds out there who aren't on the PC bandwagon and actually appreciate humor at the expense of others without taking it too seriously. Using words that have race hate undertones does not a racist make.

So first we're hurting esports by emailing the sponsors before Quantic over the Destiny situation. Then we're hurting it more by emailing GIGABYTE to drop Destiny. And now Destiny fans are going to hurt esports even more by boycotting the event.

All because someone couldn't understand why calling a Korean a "gook" when he was mad was inappropriate.

This Destiny controversy is starting to hurt other players and that really is going to "kill esports".

Esports deserves to die if they keep on witchhunting players imo.

You mean "player", right? The only other witch-hunts I've seen have been over orb and Katu - both casters. Just because your favorite player got in trouble for saying shit that would get him in trouble in every job out there doesn't mean everyone else's career deserves to be over.

You could argue Naniwa was victim of a witchhunt as well, but he APOLOGIZED for his actions. If Destiny just sucked it up and apologized, whether or not it was sincere, I guarantee he would be casting GIGABYTE no problem.

He did suck it up, and also stated that he would no longer be using that language. This is before Gigabyte decided to turn their cheek @ him.

I did not know that. If he did try to make amends then there is absolutely no reason Gigabyte should dump him as caster.

Last I had heard he was going down screaming "gook" "faggot" and "nigger".

EDIT: Also worth saying. I don't think there should be an issue here in the first place. Destiny's stream behavior has no influence or relation to his behavior at GIGABYTE. If we were to pick our casters based on past actions on streams we'd also have to talk about Incontrol and IdrA using "faggot" repeatedly. I can see why GIGABYTE wouldn't want to be associated with Destiny, but this is why you vet your casters before selecting and publicizing them.

Of course behaviour on his personal stream influences things. Its not like someone could be the most racist BM troll in SC2 history (I'm NOT saying Destiny is this) and then expect to be hired as a caster for an event because he hasn't trolled anyone on the events stream. Anyone who is a public figure (hint: If you have thousands of viewers / fans you're a public figure) has their actions judged when they act in public. You don't have to like it, but that's the facts.

If that's the case then do you hold Incontrol or Idra to the same standard when they cast? They've both made copious use of the word "faggot" in the past. I agree with you that his personal stream certainly has influence over whether or not he's hired, but I do think in this community this is a slippery slope to go down. Not to mention this is a situation where Destiny was REMOVED, after agreeing to stop using racial slurs. It isn't like he wasn't hired in the first place.

You couldn't find a post inside of 3 years where I use that word and you could NEVER find a sound bite for any tourney or stream I have done where i use that word.

Stop throwing names around that you actually have no idea about. Luckily for you you are some random person with no stake in this game otherwise you'd have just fucked up big time but whatever.

i'm confused, did people actually think that destiny was gonna go on and drop a bunch of n-bombs or is this like when people oppose gay marraige because they're afraid people will stop procreating

I think they should remove his name from the first post in this thread, because otherwise they are just using it to gain viewers that they don't deserve. It is kind of false advertising, and unless I kept up with the scene I would still think Destiny was going to be casting. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I will be watching this tournament. To me it seems like most people posting in this thread have no idea how real life works. Shit you say or do have consequences, especially as a public figure. You have every right to your beliefs but sometimes you are better off keeping them to yourself.

Sure, boycotting the event is bad for the players and other casters but the community needs to make a stand and decide whether or not the pitchfork wielders (who are the minority) are going to determine how our community operates. Beat the pitchfork wielders by wielding pitch forks? Your logic is amazing.

If you really want to reduce pitchfork wielding in the community you can do so by simply watching and enjoying the tournament, emailing sponsors saying it was fantastic entertainment and not over reacting about anything in the future - INCLUDING Destiny being removed. More "Boycotts" is exactly what the community doesn't need.

No, you shouldn't praise a poor decision. The way to show that it was a poor decision is just to watch something else, and that is what I plan on doing.

The irony is that a select group of people are persecuting Destiny, while simultaneously draping it under the guise of preventing persecution(of a race/sexual preference.)

it goes both ways, man. the people that make up /r/starcraft, for example, can and do outright slander people in the community with zero consequence if they're wrong, even if they set off a giant shitstorm that damages the reputation of someone for no reason. (not saying this happened with destiny). it's important to understand the perspective of people with name recognition in the community that part of the reason that shit like this gets blown to the rafters is because a fringe group of people can cause a shitstorm over anything and if they're wrong, nobody remembers not to take them seriously anymore.

EDIT: perfect example: incontrol's post earlier on the page. if that's posted on reddit, two hundred people upvote it, all of a sudden people think incontrol is calling people faggots left and right when it's simply not true. and there aren't any repercussions for the people who spew uninformed shit like that unless you're on TL

I keep seeing posts that say this or that is going to kill esports with regards to sponsors, but the absolute truth is that what is really killing esports is being beholden to sponsors. I understand the costs involved, but until there are teams/tournaments that can stand on their own then they will always be at the mercy of the sponsors.

Even for the people on TL - they just get banned. That's not a real world consequence.

It's incredible how obsessed people seem to be about hunting down Destiny. Ever thought about writing to Gigabyte because you like a certain caster instead of continously bashing Destiny? Personally I was really looking forward to seeing him cast this tournament, I really liked his comments on Zerg MUs at Homestorycup.

Happy that GIGABYTE decided its not okay for someone that uses homophobic, and racist language to cast their tournament. Will make sure to watch this tournament to show my support.

Steven may do what he pleases on his stream, but do you really think he'd throw that shit around in an official tournament? He can be an extremely professional and well-spoken guy when he turns it on, which he has done plenty in the past to prove he's capable. I don't want to take this thread away from the tournament it's representing because I'm sure it'll be great, but it's ridiculous that they made such a ham-handed decision.
