This Destiny controversy is starting to hurt other players and that really is going to "kill esports".

Esports deserves to die if they keep on witchhunting players imo.

Esports also deserves to die if we celebrate players who act like Destiny, saying that I think everything about Destiny and Orb was terribly terribly handled.

Nobody suggested celebrating the behaviour. Do you even read posts that you respond to?

You mean "player", right? The only other witch-hunts I've seen have been over orb and Katu - both casters. Just because your favorite player got in trouble for saying shit that would get him in trouble in every job out there doesn't mean everyone else's career deserves to be over.

You could argue Naniwa was victim of a witchhunt as well, but he APOLOGIZED for his actions. If Destiny just sucked it up and apologized, whether or not it was sincere, I guarantee he would be casting GIGABYTE no problem.

He did suck it up, and also stated that he would no longer be using that language. This is before Gigabyte decided to turn their cheek @ him.

Yea I'm pretty sure that a lot of people were going to watch this because Destiny was casting, now that he isn't they probably are going to lose a lot of potential viewers including me. I don't even care about the players, the draw to this tournament was Destiny.

I did not know that. If he did try to make amends then there is absolutely no reason Gigabyte should dump him as caster.

Last I had heard he was going down screaming "gook" "faggot" and "nigger".

EDIT: Also worth saying. I don't think there should be an issue here in the first place. Destiny's stream behavior has no influence or relation to his behavior at GIGABYTE. If we were to pick our casters based on past actions on streams we'd also have to talk about Incontrol and IdrA using "faggot" repeatedly. I can see why GIGABYTE wouldn't want to be associated with Destiny, but this is why you vet your casters before selecting and publicizing them.

Of course behaviour on his personal stream influences things. Its not like someone could be the most racist BM troll in SC2 history (I'm NOT saying Destiny is this) and then expect to be hired as a caster for an event because he hasn't trolled anyone on the events stream. Anyone who is a public figure (hint: If you have thousands of viewers / fans you're a public figure) has their actions judged when they act in public. You don't have to like it, but that's the facts.

Yeah me too. Pretty silly that all it took was three people who didn't like him to email the sponsor. This is the other end of the spectrum of actions that definitely will not help Esports become legitimate.

Oh okay so him saying he wont use any racial slurs anymore even tho he still believes words without context are just words is not enough? Do we have to force him to accept that our ideas are the best and force him to make a fake apology to stop ruining his career? Jeesus christ man.

I'm not saying we need to make him do anything. I'm saying his life would be much easier if he'd do that. He can stick to his ideals (which is admirable I guess), but this shit will follow him for the rest of his career unless he tries to make amends.

After this uproar events aren't going to bother inviting him to anything. They know that they can't risk an uproar over his racism and they can't risk an uproar over his fans being mad his invitation got retracted. The more complaining people do at this point the more it likely hurts Destiny.

See this is where my problem lies. I like the fact that he pretty much said "Im not gonna do it anymore since people seem to get bothered so much but I still believe they shouldnt". His life would indeed be easier if he typed some formal fake apology saying hes honestly sorry and sees the error in his ways but I dont think anyone would fall for that.

I just dont see how the fuck some people really are out to end some persons career (after they already "made" him leave his team) over this. There were 2 150 page posts , he said he wont do it anymore , get over it . Seriously I didnt even watch the guy and now I feel like complaining to that tournament and actually not watching it , thats how sick of this I am...

with how fervently he's defended his use of that kind of language in the past, I don't think it's ridiculous to be skeptical of a claim like that. if the dude finally realizes what he's been doing all this time, great, but it's going to take more than a couple days for people to buy it

If that's the case then do you hold Incontrol or Idra to the same standard when they cast? They've both made copious use of the word "faggot" in the past. I agree with you that his personal stream certainly has influence over whether or not he's hired, but I do think in this community this is a slippery slope to go down. Not to mention this is a situation where Destiny was REMOVED, after agreeing to stop using racial slurs. It isn't like he wasn't hired in the first place.

Boycotting the cast since Destiny was removed as caster because 3 people emailed saying he was racist. people need to stop acting like children. Go here to support getting Destiny back as a personality. http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/tjbnq/boycotting_gigabytes_cast/

Oh the irony of this post.

You're going to hurt sponsors, 10's of players and other casters because you don't like what 3 people did? The 3 people you don't like are the ONLY ones not effected by your proposed actions.

I agree completely though, stop acting like children, I think it just includes more people than you think it does.

Perhaps they should be? Correctly or not society seems to be harsher on racial slurs than on 'faggot' or other homophobic slurs. Personally they rank the same in my book, but often it's the communities reaction not an individuals that matters.

Just sent them an email to tell them my point of view about a vast minority of people sending emails to sponsors to tell them that they wont buy and boycott this company because they support that X person, even tho im pretty sure most of these people dont actually think that this X player did something wrong, they just dont like him for another reason. If you want to send them a message about anything, if you think they did the right decision or not, you can tell them at support@thegesl.com or look around on their facebook page.

I just don't get saying you care only for Destiny and not for players and tournament, and what's even worse you call out "hurting of esports"?!

Poor Gigabyte will have a lot to deal with, and ALL of that and this could've been avoided with just a bit of decency and manners. :/

Sure, boycotting the event is bad for the players and other casters but the community needs to make a stand and decide whether or not the pitchfork wielders (who are the minority) are going to determine how our community operates. I wont be watching even though I was pretty stoked for the event even before Destiny but this is stupid

Don't really have anything new to say that hasn't already been said, I just feel like I need to express on here as well as the complaint I sent into gigabyte_usa, I will not be watching the event due to the decision to not allow destiny to cast this event. I

I had no intention of watching this event, but due to the amount of crying going on in this thread I'm gonna watch it and support since they deserve it.

You don't have to like it, but that's the facts.

Perhaps they should be? Correctly or not society seems to be harsher on racial slurs than on 'faggot' or other homophobic slurs. Personally they rank the same in my book, but often it's the communities reaction not an individuals that matters.

Cool. I agree with you in theory. I just don't see that as particularly realistic with the way the community currently is, and I think everyone should be held to the same standards. Destiny has agreed to never use racial slurs again, I think he should be given a chance to make good on that promise.

Sure, boycotting the event is bad for the players and other casters but the community needs to make a stand and decide whether or not the pitchfork wielders (who are the minority) are going to determine how our community operates. I wont be watching even though I was pretty stoked for the event even before Destiny but this is stupid

Beat the pitchfork wielders by wielding pitch forks? Your logic is amazing.

If you really want to reduce pitchfork wielding in the community you can do so by simply watching and enjoying the tournament, emailing sponsors saying it was fantastic entertainment and not over reacting about anything in the future - INCLUDING Destiny being removed. More "Boycotts" is exactly what the community doesn't need.

So first we're hurting esports by emailing the sponsors before Quantic over the Destiny situation. Then we're hurting it more by emailing GIGABYTE to drop Destiny. And now Destiny fans are going to hurt esports even more by boycotting the event.

All because someone couldn't understand why calling a Korean a "gook" when he was mad was inappropriate.

This Destiny controversy is starting to hurt other players and that really is going to "kill esports".

Esports deserves to die if they keep on witchhunting players imo.

And I've got no problem with people disagreeing with me on that, or having a different opinion at all. We can all discuss the rights / wrongs of the situation, but calling for boycotts and hurting sponsors even more is ridiculous and ONLY negative for the community.
